I feel like a broken record, but this was another exhausting weekend! So here’s what’s been going on around here lately….

A Saturday morning run….

Sent to Home Depot…came back with alcohol and coffee…

 The packing never ends…..

congrats on the aunt and uncle status- exciting! At least the weekend and chocolate and wine, yeah! I needed that too after working on our taxes! UGG! Happy Monday!

Thanks! Chocolate and wine definitely help when you have a busy/stressful weekend. Have a great week!

Wow, congrats on becoming an aunt! I have a niece and nephew that I don’t get to see often because they live in Italy. Yard maintenance – looks like new construction. Was it seeded or sod? I’ve dealt with both – isn’t easy either way.

    • [email protected] says

      April 7, 2015 at 6:41 am

Thanks! We won’t be able to see our niece as much as we would like either because they live in Arkansas.
Yep, its new construction and lawn was sod. We haven’t moved in yet but have been making trips there over the past few days to make sure it gets watered all the time- not fun!

I try to combine as many stops as I can when I do errands or I pick just one to do if I have a short time – it varies and depends on the errand. Some are treats, and some aren’t.

Yes I DID run outside this weekend!

Congrats on becoming an aunt, great tshirts!

Thanks! Its nice to be able to stop at other places when you are out doing errands. It makes me feel extra productive!

Chocolate always saves the day huh? I know things are tiring for you right now, but it will be so worth it 🙂 Hang in there! My weekend was nowhere near as productive as yours, and it kinda makes me mad, but I did have fun doing other things….so thats good right? 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      April 7, 2015 at 6:39 am

It’s nice to have some weekends that are productive and others that are relaxing, I think! When they are all busy it makes them less enjoyable- although it is nice when you know you got done!

  5. Kristina says

    April 6, 2015 at 6:32 am

Congrats on becoming an aunt! How cute are those shirts?!

If I’m running errands that annoy me (going to Home Depot would be one of those, haha) I will make an extra stop and pick something up for myself – usually Starbucks or something caffeine related! 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      April 7, 2015 at 6:38 am

Thanks! Home Depot definitely requires Starbucks:)

Congrats on becoming an aunt! Very cool shirts 🙂 Adam is an expert at stopping at 5 extra places on an outing, and this only gets worse after kids!

    • [email protected] says

      April 7, 2015 at 6:37 am

Thanks! Rob’s sister had the shirt made for us and sent them the week before the baby was due, telling us to wait until she was born to open it!

  7. Susie @ SuzLyfe says

    April 6, 2015 at 7:36 am

Congrats on becoming an auntie! It is such a weird thing–at least it was for us, because we are so separated from Alex’s brother by distance (but they are very close). Alex is so connected with his nephew, though. And yay for running!

    • [email protected] says

      April 7, 2015 at 6:36 am

Thanks! Same for us- Rob is still really close to his family but his sister and her husband are in Arkansas and his parents are in Cleveland/Florida. We still see them quite a bit but its going to be hard to not be able to see our niece as much as we would like especially over the first year.

Aww congrats Auntie and Uncle! I was my oldest niece’s birthday yesterday (sweet 16!!) and I well remember the excitement when she was born. It was gorgeous here and I ran outside both days. Felt great after that horrendous winter.

Congrats on being an aunt! I hope you had a great run this weekend. It must be nice to be back on the road!

I did a race on Saturday, so that was my only run for the weekend, but we went hiking on Easter morning, and then for a long walk after dinner and chocolate. It was a great weekend!

Extra stops on errands? If I get the chance to run errands without kids, then yes. I will all of a sudden need to stop a bazillion times for all sorts of odds and ends. Haha! I keep am ongoing to-do list on my phone and whenever I get some free time I just go through as much of that list as possible. Congratulations on becoming an auntie! Babies are the best.

    • [email protected] says

      April 7, 2015 at 6:15 am

Congrats on being an aunt! So exciting. I am excited for my 4 year old nephew to visit me next weekend. I can’t believe he is already 4 – I have full convo’s with him. Crazy! Yay for also being able to get a run in. Glad your legs are cooperating. This weekend I noticed a pull in my hamstring on my bad leg again. I’m hoping it works its way out before the half. Happy Monday!

  18. Lauren @ ihadabiglunch says

    April 6, 2015 at 10:57 am

Haha errands never end up the way they’re supposed to! You always end up buying more than you anticipated or making stops you weren’t prepared for. That’s half the fun of it, I guess. Congrats on becoming an aunt! Your guys’ shirts are the cutest 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      April 7, 2015 at 6:18 am

Driving around the suburbs it was so easy to stop at other places! In the city if I drive anywhere its harder to make extra stops because nothing is “along the way”. So I have a feeling that my wallet is in trouble once we move!

And I did run outside both Saturday and Sunday…Sunday in the snow! Will it ever end?? (I’m in upstate NY, so the answer is often no…) I look forward to running without winter gear for a while…although I need to remind myself what this feels like when it’s 90 and I’m melting. 🙂

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
