A Change of Pace for my Weekly Workouts

This week of workouts looked a little different for me. There was still some running, but not nearly as much as other weeks. Also, I added in some different workouts. Overall, it was a good change of pace especially when the weather wasn’t great.

This week brought a change of pace for my weekly workouts. Click post to read about week 35 of pregnancy, which was also Thanksgiving week. #workouts #running #pregnancy

I’m noticing that I feel pretty good in the mornings, but by the end of the day I am just exhausted. I’ve tried to see if backing off of my workouts helps at all with my energy throughout the day but I don’t really think it helped much. If anything, exercising in the morning makes me feel better at least for a while. No matter what I do I think I’m going to be tired in the evenings!

tuesday run

Even though last week was a short work week, it was a long one. I either worked late or had something going on after work on all 3 days. Luckily Thanksgiving weekend brought some extra days off. I tried to check some things off of my to-do list but didn’t get as much done as I hoped. We did decorate for Christmas on Sunday. Now, the trick is going to be finding the time to take everything down once the baby is here! We may be one of those houses that leaves stuff up until February this year.

Here’s a look at last week’s workouts:

Monday: Strength training
Tuesday: 3 miles
Wednesday: Strength training
Thursday: 6 miles
Friday: 2 mile walk
Saturday: 30 minutes spin bike
Sunday: 3 miles

sunday run

I think the highlight of my workouts this week was my run on Thanksgiving. It was around 25 degrees but felt like 17. I think between the cold weather, running a little later in the morning, and some extra time off from running this week my legs were ready to move. I managed to do this run in under 10 mins/mile overall. (In comparison, Tuesday’s 3 miler was closer to 12 mins/mile). Also, by the end my bladder was yelling at me so that helped me to pick up the pace as well.

thanksgiving run

I got on my spin bike for the first time in months. It was definitely my first time on there since having a real bump, which made things challenging. I was able to sit upright or stand up while holding the handlebars. But sitting and leaning forward wasn’t happening. It’s a good option for an easier, low impact workout on days I don’t feel like running.

My goal at this point is to just try to continue being active most days if my body is up for it. My calendar is looking crazy with so much to do at work along with tons of personal appointments so it’s all about trying to find some sort of balance. Easier said than done, right?

Wow! I’m so impressed with your workouts. I love running on Thanksgiving morning. Glad your weather was cooperative. Best of luck in these upcoming weeks : )

Great job with your workouts, you had a really balanced week. I wish I could say that cold weather had me running stronger, I was absolutely miserable on Thanksgiving morning, lol!

I feel like I’m in the calm before the storm…I’m dreading the busyness of work that’s on its way! But I do love December with all of the holiday parties!

Im not sure why I felt so good in the cold weather on Thursday. Maybe its because with all these crazy hormones I feel much warmer than everyone else these days!

I love your Christmas tree and fireplace decorations! I remember being so tired during my first trimester I needed a nap after work. You are dong great staying active and listening to your body!

Thanks! I feel like offices should allow nap time for pregnant women:)

I always find it funny technically a “short” week can feel so long! I think the holidays have a way of doing that to us.

So glad that you had a great run on Thanksgiving despite the cold temperatures!

Yes those shorter weeks can feel even tougher to get through than a regular week!

It’s impressive how you continue to stay active! I didn’t think about the bike being difficult with the bump but it makes sense. At least you can pedal and get your heart rate up.

    It’s almost go time!

If I had access to an elliptical that would probably be better, but it is what it is. The bike is a good enough option for these last few weeks as Im running less but wanting to keep moving.

Yup, I got decorations up this weekend, and I waited out the wind for some others. I’ll be fully up and decorated by the end of the day today.

Thats exciting! We actually dont have any outdoor decorations. Maybe one day we will start doing that.

Next Christmas there will be three stockings on your mantle. How exciting! Absolutely leave those decorations up until February. You’ll be busy with your new bundle of joy and it will not matter. I think your exhaustion is normal. It’s our body’s way of forcing us to rest before the baby arrives. Put your feet up and enjoy those evenings. Thanks for linking.

We might be adding a third stocking this year if baby comes early or on time! You are so right that this is the time to take advantage of being able to rest. If only there wasn’t so much to get done!

Wow! Your workouts and runs are impressive, especially with your little baby along for the ride. Thanksgiving morning runs are a wonderful way to start the day, I think.

You are really looking good, and still staying very active. I hadn’t thought about all the post-Christmas take-down for you LOL Oh well, there are worse things 😉

Yea, I’m not too worried about it. We definitely wanted to have decorations up since we won’t be going anywhere else for the holidays (and hopefully won’t be in the hospital on Christmas!) Maybe we can recruit some visitors to help us take stuff down:)

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
