I had every intention of having my Baltimore Half recap up yesterday, but never got around to writing it. And then when I finally sat down to blog I realized I had a million other things on my mind and it would be too hard to think back on the race. And what better way to blog when your brain is all over the place than by thinking out loud?
I am realizing that when I don’t blog every day it’s much harder to sit down and write when I do have the time. It’s like when a few days have passed I feel like I have a million things that have happened in that time, but writing those things wouldn’t necessarily go along with the topic I am sitting down to write about. Does that make sense? Or happen to anyone else?
But really, lately I feel like my life is a never-ending cycle of running, working, sleeping, and laundry. Like seriously, two runners training for a marathon make for piles and piles of laundry. We have a nice big washer in our new house that can fit lots of clothes but who wants to fold all of that at once? It’s like a workout in itself, so I like to do it in smaller batches.
One thing that happens when I get busy (which also interferes with my blogging) is that I get SO easily distracted. For example, as I was trying to write this post I got an E-mail about an online sale and decided to click over and check it out. I never shop impulsively, and I knew I wouldn’t buy anything, so after about two minutes I realized I was wasting my time and told myself to get focused.
Ok, so back to whatever I was saying, which I don’t even remember at this point. Maybe I will get that race recap up before my full marathon which is only 31 days away. (??!!!)
The next few weeks are gonna be pretty busy- but all good stuff! We decided to go to DC this upcoming weekend (thanks for all the tips!) and after we booked the trip we realized it was MCM weekend! We are actually staying near the start line so hopefully we can go cheer for a bit on Sunday morning.
I also have a work trip to New Orleans in 2 weeks! If you have to travel for work, you might as well go somewhere fun, right?
And that’s pretty much what’s going on around here! My apologies if this post is impossible to follow, it truly represents how my mind has been working lately:)

Do you find it easier to focus on your blogging when you blog every day or more sporadically?
Have you ever been to New Orleans? (I went once in 2005 when I was a senior in college!)
Do you ever shop online impulsively?
I can’t keep up with the laundry lately either! Major different in the running apparel needing to be washed as it gets colder because there are more layers. I have them hanging to dry everywhere lol.
Distraction is definitely my enemy and occasionally I get caught up in finding something online. I think the routine of blogging makes it easier so I can see where a few days off makes it strange to write something!
I definitely find it harder to write when I get out of my groove. Approaching marathon time seems to make me more distracted too. Yay for NOLA! I haven’t been there since high school. How fun you’ll be in town for MCM too!
Me? Shop impulsively? Go read my blog, LOL!
How fun to be there for MCM! It would drive my husband insane, no doubt, but I’d enjoy it. I haven’t been to DC for 30 yrs! Wow. I’m sure it’s the same yet changed a lot, too.
I actually did have a conference in New Orleans once when I was still working. I was once invited to speak at a conference, too, but there was a hurricane bearing down (not Katrina) and I had to cancel. It was a very difficult decision!
Enjoy your travels.
I totally feel you! I’ve done my race recap but I still have so much to say about the race and weekend. There’s no way it will make cohesive post though. It sounds like you are super busy, which I’m sure will help pass the time before your race. Going to New Orleans sounds fun!
I find it easier to focus when I blog 5 days a week, but now that I’m working I need to write my posts on weekends and schedule them ahead, and I do get easily distracted. Plus then I want to add to them before they go up!
That is cool you get to go to New Orleans for work! Sometimes I think I am in the totally wrong profession… I want a “grown up” job where I can travel! 😉
You dry workout clothes like we dry workout clothes… hanging over all the doors an banisters!
I don’t think traveling for work is really all that glamorous:) I’m just happy we get to go somewhere fun!
That’s so nice that your husband is a runner too. If I ever suggested to Adam that he get up early on vacation to go spectate a marathon with me he would call me crazy! 🙂 ENJOY your weekend!!
Why do you think that even when I’m a bit busy, I still try to blog everyday 😀 Because otherwise, you totally get out of the habit and the structure. like working out, lol.
Oh… I’m notorious for leaving the laundry until it makes huge piles and then have half a day worth of folding to do when it gets out. I don’t recommend it. 🙂
I can’t seem to find time for blogging at all anymore thanks to work, but I know what you mean – when I have a spare 10 minutes, I can’t make my brain focus because I know I should be doing laundry or cleaning, and I want to just zone out! Hope you have an amazing anniversary weekend in DC!! (I think that was what the trip was for?)
Thank you-yes, we celebrated early:)
I can’t imagine having two runners in the house will all the laundry! I keep to a 3 posts per week blog schedule and this seems to work well for me with working full time and balancing other things like running and family. Its definitely hard sometimes to sit down and focus on writing. I do have a habit of checking out certain online stores (love Nordstrom, Amazon and Oiselle) and shop when I really don’t NEED to be. I admit it! Hope you have a great rest of the week!
I used to blog every day, and I honestly have no idea how I did it. You’re right, though — it becomes a lot harder to streamline your thinking and pick out what’s important enough to share when you’ve got a bunch of things piling up after a few days. And holy.snap… I’ll never complain about doing my laundry again 😆
Lisa, I find that I am most easily distracted when I’m tired; I can’t focus on anything for very long, so I jump from one thing to another – ugh. What a fun work trip! I hope you get to do some things for yourself while you’re in New Orleans; I love that place. Cheer for everyone for me this weekend, please! Y’all are going to have a blast!
Blogging daily helps me stay in the routine and thinking of topics. Whenever I take a break, I find I come back with such a writer’s block! That will be so fun to get to be in DC for MCM! Spectating one of the big races is on my list of things to do.
Those sale emails get me every time! I hardly ever buy anything online though. I totally relate to the busyness of life thing. And yes, I work well with momentum and as soon as I pause for a second, it takes a looooong time for me to get back up and at ’em again. It’s better for me to just keep my feet moving.
You are not alone!!! I struggle often with finding something worth writing about so I just wait for that inspiration to hit me. And distractions, yes!!! I am with you!!
I completely agree with you on being “all over the place” when blogging irregularly. I feel that when I don’t post consistently, there’s so much I want to say and I am thinking of 500 different things. I shop impulsively here and there…I feel like I do it when I hear about friends recent purchases or if I haven’t been in a while. I LOVE New Orleans- have so much fun!
Oh man SO MUCH LAUNDRY! All of a sudden now that I’m not running much I have like zero laundry to do and it is amazing. I can’t imagine having two people! I’m in a blogging funk right now too… Sometimes i have a million things to talk about, other times I have nothing. Usually when I’m out of a routine.
getting back to blogging after vacation is hard because i want to write about my travels, but i have all these other running related posts I want to do, then my tutorials on my HP party stuff…too much in the brain. wine helps though 😉 have fun in DC!!!!
That pic is too funny with the wine and coffee. Two of my favorites:) I have been to New Orleans twice and it is such a fun city. Make sure you get benaiges at the cafe du monde….so yummy! Have a great wkend in DC.
Thanks, I will have to go there!
I visited New Orleans once and loved it there! Make sure you make time to listen to some live music while you’re there for work 🙂
I will definitely try to do that, thanks!
I went to New Orleans for the first time this September, and all I know is you really do ned to eat beignets at Cafe Du Monde 🙂
Thanks, I will keep that in mind!
Shop on line impulsively? Who me?
It goes both ways for me. Sometimes I feel like I have so much to talk about I can’t prioritize but then others times I hit mental blocks. Have fun in DC! I love the buildings there and just being a tourist.
I do feel like it’s harder to organize my thoughts when I am not blogging everyday! It really does make it harder to come up with a cohesive post. I think you did great though! That’s what makes Thinking Out Loud so great, right?
I have never been to New Orleans, but it sounds fun! Good luck on the all the laundry; I know that frustration all too well. Kids go through an amazing amount of clothes for being so little!
I have the same problem. I feel out of it if I take a couple days to rest off the computer. I know I need to do it everyday. I loved that coffee coaches meme. I am really excited to hear about your race.

Oh shoot, I shop online impulsively more often than I would like to admit, lol. How was your weekend in DC!! Did you get down to spectate the race at all?
It was really fun! I was so sad that I didn’t actually make it out to spectate- we slept later than planned and by the time we were ready to head out the runners were almost past the place we were gonna watch from (our hotel was close to the start line). We did get to see it from our window though! Congrats again on your awesome PR:)
