A few weeks ago, I was asked by Michele to participate in a Blog Writing Process Tour. This is kind of like a behind the scenes of the blog. I had just written a post about things you probably don’t want to know about me, so I wanted to wait a week or so. Well now its been a few weeks so before I forget I figured I would get it done! It’s a post I was really looking forward to writing.
The idea is that you answer some questions about your blog and then nominate others to do the same. I am gonna be a bad blogger and not follow that rule because honestly I haven’t kept track of who has done this, so if you haven’t I would encourage you to just write a post answering these questions!
- What am I working on?
- How does my work differ from others in my of its type/genre?
- Why do I write what I write?
- How does your writing process work?
But before I get started, I want to thank Michele for the nomination. I encourage you all to go check out her Behind the Scenes post here!
1. What am I working on?
As it pertains to the blog, I am just working on connecting with other bloggers who share the same interests as me! I have taken slow baby steps around the layout/format of the blog. At this point I am happy with it and just make minor changes from time to time.
In more general terms I am working on becoming a better runner and figuring out ways to eat that will make me feel great and help me run better. I also love reading and learning about that stuff!
I am also working on getting started with coaching other runners! So far I’ve only coached friends and family, but I am feeling ready to take on anyone who would like to give it a try! Check out my webpage here!
2. How does my work differ from others of its type/genre?
Honestly, it is probably very similar to other running blogs. I just try to write honestly and about whatever is on my mind that day, but it usually looks pretty similar to others who write about running and health (and drinking wine). But I think that everyone has something different to share and a different way to share it.
3. Why do I write what I write?
Because its what is on my mind and what I find interesting. I started reading blogs in early 2011 and was totally addicted. Back then I never commented but I imagined someday starting a blog. I would even come up with posts in my head when I was out running.
When I started my blog last summer I felt like I wanted to have a place to ramble about things that people didn’t want to hear about in real life. So that is what you all get to read!
4. How does your writing process work?
I usually have an idea of what I will write about and then when I sit down the words usually just flow. There is occasional writer’s block but then I realize I might not want to write about that particular topic. I also like to do link-ups. That it gives me a day or two where I’ll know what I will be writing about. Lately I have just been able to come up with something to say every day. I can’t imagine that I will be able to keep up with it.
Answer one of the questions above about your own blog!

I love the part that you write about what people don’t want to hear in real life 🙂 I’ve loved having a blog because it’s totally an outlet for me to gush about running without annoying my family and friends. I’ve loved reading a lot of content from you recently, so I hope the ideas keep coming!

Exactly! If I didn’t have a blog I wouldn’t have anyone to talk to this much about running!
And thanks! I hope so too:)

It’s amazing how once people you know start reading your blog they’ll feel like they’re getting to know you better. I felt the same way about discussing things that people wouldn’t want to have conversations about in daily life – but somehow when they read about it it’s more interesting!
I think your blog is different from a standard running blog because you’re YOU – meaning authentic, completely real and honest and it seems to come really naturally to you to be that way.
I also feel the same about writers block – it usually means I’m not that into the topic.

Its funny because last week I was talking to my mom and aunt about my blog and they were saying how they couldn’t believe how much I could write but I don’t say nearly as much in real life…but there is no way they would want to listen to be ramble about marathons and garmins and potential injuries! If anything it sparks real life conversations after someone has read a post!

You keep telling people what is UP my dear. I love those post where you are like, um, so this isn’t ok. You do a great job of balancing out what is going on in your life and what you think it is time to talk about (informationally). Keep doing what you are doing 😀

Thank you!! I do try to switch things up, because I don’t want to write about the same stuff all the time and my guess is people don’t want to read about the same stuff all the time:)

I like reading these 🙂 I don’t think you’re like other running blogs, though, because you offer your own perspective and experience on the sport which is different from anyone else. I like seeing what you think each day 🙂

Thanks! I mean, I think that each running blog is a little different but its hard to pinpoint what makes mine particularly different. I just try to write about my own experiences and usually other people can relate!

Your blog is one of my favorites. You are so knowledgeable, but still approachable. You seem real. For example, I definitely took your advice and just finished Anatomy for Runners. I have already made myself a schedule to work on my glutes and hip flexors! I would love to hear more about how you switched to self-hosted. I want to do that but am so nervous!

Thanks! And I’m so glad you read Anatomy for Runners! I used to never care about that stuff but I have realized how important it is to know the basics of how the body works for runners!

I love how you are so demure about your content ‘oh other people say the same stuff’.
Um, as others have said – NO.
Sure we all talk about running and food and so on, but everyone brings a perspective and approach and unique voice … well, everyone worth reading.
And YOU are definitely worth reading all the time. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks! You guys are all too nice. You are right that every blog (worth reading) brings a bit of a different perspective. I think its easier for me to explain why I enjoy reading others’ blogs so much but harder for me to pinpoint what is specifically different about my own.
