A few weeks ago I was nominated by Salt for an “Inspiring Blogger” award! So this is your chance to get to know me with some random facts, First, a little about Salt. She is a fellow Baltimore-area runner and at some point we will meet in real life! This girl is relatively new to running but just rocked her first marathon a couple months ago in an amazing time! (And then got it tattooed on her arm!) If you don’t already read her blog you should definitely check it out. You will laugh at least once reading each post plus you get to see pictures of her adorable toddler.
Get to Know Me With Some Random Facts
I originally told her there was no way I could come up with seven interesting facts about myself. I managed to come up with some stuff to share, but I have no idea if it is at all interesting. So, here are some random facts that you probably don’t want to know about me:
1. I am kind of crazy organized
You probably already know this from my meal planning. I had a full itinerary planned before our wedding day and made copies for everyone involved in the wedding party. Our priest found out about this and made fun of me a little during the ceremony. I think that everyone appreciated knowing exactly where they were supposed to be at every single moment of the day.
“One of you is organized, the other is VERY organized”
2. Kind of going along with that, I am OCD about certain things
One example is making my bed. As soon as we are both out of bed it has to be made. I believe this is because my mom made me make my bed every day growing up, and then I went to college and my roommate Katie always made her bed so I made mine too. I usually get up before Rob and if I go out running when he is still in bed it needs to be the first thing I do when I come back.
3. During my pre-teen years I was OBSESSED with Hanson
I think every girl who was in middle or high school during the late 90s was either a Hanson fan or Backstreet Boys fan. My room was covered with posters and I even made a binder of all things Hanson related which is still in my parents’ basement. (Rob knows about this and still chose to marry me, he must really love me.) I had MMMBop played at my wedding and it has been on some of my running playlists for races.
4. At one point I could plank for 5 minutes while drinking a beer
Don’t ask me how or why but at my bachelorette party 2 years ago I did this successfully. Sort of related but not really- Have you seen the video of the guy who ran a mile and drank 4 beers in under 5 minutes? I couldn’t come close to doing either of those things separately.
5. I don’t watch TV
I’ll be in the room with the TV on, but I’m not usually paying attention. If Rob isn’t home I don’t turn it on by myself unless it’s too quiet and I need background noise. I never know how to find anything to watch except reruns of How I Met Your Mother or Modern Family.
6. I went Skydiving in Switzerland while I was studying abroad
There is no way you could get me to do this again- in fact I was just saying that I will probably never get on a roller coaster again. I have to say it was an amazing experience but I thought my parents were going to kill me when they found out.
7. While on the topic of things I wouldn’t do again and my parents almost killed me for doing once: I also swam with sharks on our honeymoon
I didn’t really want to do this but it was one of the only things that Rob asked to do and most of the time I was able to lay on the beach and do nothing, so I felt like I should suck it up and go. I didn’t think it was as scary as I expected, but we were on the North shore of Oahu and the water was really choppy so even being in the cage made me feel nauseous. They said a lot of people get sick on the boat too because its so rocky.
Here I am thinking about what I got myself into
Pretty creepy, huh?
Hopefully that helped you to get to know me a bit more, even though that info was pretty random and not really about running!
- Any other Hanson fans out there?
- Would you rather go skydiving or swim with sharks?

THank you my dear! Love these and yes, you are hella organized, and I love it. I would both go skydiving and swim with sharks. Skydiving because I would probably lose my sh*t but at the same time I want to do it (But would most definitely have an anxiety attack). Shark tank swim because I have scuba’d before, so that wouldn’t make me nervous, and for some reason the thought of shark swimming doesn’t scare me as much. I’m sure it would be different once in there, but it is more of a respect thing, I think for me.

I actually didn’t think the shark swim was as scary as it can sound. The sharks were not even interested in all the humans staring at them! I think it would have been terrifying if they were trying to get to us or bumping into the tank or something like that!

So when I first opened this page, it said “Drug Addiction Help”. I thought whoa Lisa! you are starting off with a big random fact! Just kidding. #5, yeah, I don’t know how to work the TV either. Lou is the keeper of the remote. Many years ago, Lou and I signed up for a skydiving trip, but his dad passed away the day before, so we cancelled. I think I would prefer this, over swimming with the sharks though, maybe it’s because I can’t swim real well?
[email protected] says
That’s so weird that it said that when you opened the page!
Glad you can relate to the TV thing!
You get to wear a life jacket for the shark swimming, if that helps at all:) So there isn’t much swimming involved. I actually think that looking back on the two that skydiving was scarier…the sharks weren’t all that interested in us so it was kind of like watching them through a window.
Sam @ The Running Graduate says
ohmygosh! I LOVE HANSON! I started listening to them when MMMBop came out (I was 5) and never stopped! I’m also super OCD about making my bed. I don’t always make it right off, but I can’t get into an unmade bed. Sometimes I make it right before I go to bed – but it has to always be perfect. I’m glad I’m not alone in this!
[email protected] says
Haha that is awesome that at 5 you starting liking Hanson! That song is just so catchy. But I think either you love em or you hate em.
I definitely can not get into an unmade bed! It just doesn’t seem the same!
Sam @ The Running Graduate says
And I just saw that you nominated me! Thank you!
Kirtley Freckleton @ The Gist of Fit says
Heya Lisa! First time here and turns out it was perfect timing! I LOVE the random facts you said about yourself!
I think I would pee…the water(??) if I swam with sharks haha.
Skydiving–bucket list. But in Switzer?! Amazing. I went a few years ago-totally blow away!
Keep being awesome and take care!

Welcome and thanks for checking out my blog!
The shark thing wasn’t quite as scary as it sounds- but I still don’t think I would do it again! It probably has alot to do with the kind of sharks that you swim with.
Switzerland was my favorite country to visit, which is why I was so excited to get to skydive there!
Megan says
I was totally a Hanson fan growing up. I can still rock out to Mmm Bop today! As for going skydiving or swimming with sharks…. I don’t know if I could do either of them. Does that make me sound unadventurous?! I would have to prepare myself for either one of these things for several months before doing it!
[email protected] says
Yay for another Hanson fan!
And no you don’t sound unadventurous…just smart maybe:) I think I wanted to be crazy when I was 20 and had a “you only live once” mentality…but I’m over than now and like to be more cautious.
Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
Thanks for the nomination! Also, I totally understand the bed thing. An unmade bed is my pet peeve and no matter how late I’m running in the morning I have to make the bed before I leave the house!
[email protected] says
Glad you can relate! Unmade beds are the worst!
Emmeline@RunForThePizza says
Love the facts! I went skydiving at 18 and would love to swim with sharks, we almost did it on our honeymoon in South Africa but decided not to go to the beach in our final plans so we missed out on it but I’ll definitely do it someday.
[email protected] says
Sounds like you are way more adventurous than me:) I’m glad I can say I did those things, but I no longer feel the need for that kind of adventure haha.
Laura @ the gluten-free treadmill says
Thanks for the nomination lady – I’m so behind on responding, but hopefully soon!
Loved learning more about you – and I loved Hanson too! Maybe there are some songs I still do…
[email protected] says
Another Hanson fan! I think once a fan always a fan. I still get defensive when people talk bad about them:)
Amy says
Thanks so much for nominating me! I loved learning about you! You’ve done way more adventurous things than I have! I definitely remember Hanson! I know all the words to MMMBop. I definitely wasn’t as big of a fan as you were! I was more of an N’SYNC girl.
[email protected] says
Ah yes how could I forget about Nsync? They just don’t have bands like Hanson and Nsync anymore. Kids these days are really missing out:)
Carmy says
Thanks for nominating me!!! <3 you are brave for swimming with sharks! Sure they don't attack for no reason but you never know! Haha #paranoid. Did you get a go pro video of your sky diving adventure? 🙂
[email protected] says
You are absolutely right! I can say I did it once but never again.
Salt says
AHHH OMG I just got goosebumps from that shark picture. I am SO afraid of sharks. I even get creeped out at the aquarium and there is a whole lot of glass between me and those sharks. You are the bravest person I know.
I also don’t really watch much TV unless it’s Peppa Pig or sports. And the Peppa Pig is not for me obviously, though after Betty goes to bed sometimes I just end up leaving it on the Peppa Pig channel. I can’t believe I just admitted that.
We definitely have to meet up for a run! You’re awesome and thank you so much for accepting this award and being an all-around awesome person and blogger!
[email protected] says
For some reason the sharks didn’t scare me as much I expected. But I will never do it again!
Peppa Pig! That sounds like a fun show to watch. I don’t blame you for leaving it on.
Do you think you are going to run the Charles St 12 or are you waiting to see how your foot is doing?
Salt says
I’m definitely doing it because I want my B3 medal. 🙂 I may just have to walk some of it. Hopefully not though.

Haha they had this thing when I was in high school called “Stop the Bop” every year. It played all day long and to get the song to stop you had to pay money. I have to say, even though it went towards fundraising for the school, they didn’t get a penny from me. I never got sick of it! It’s just such a feel good song! Although at that age I don’t think I ever admitted it to the people that couldn’t stand it. I think sharks are cool and all, but I don’t think I would be able to make myself get in that cage!
[email protected] says
I don’t think I would have ever gotten sick of MMMBop either! I can’t believe they had a fundraiser like that! I definitely defended them but luckily many of my friends also liked Hanson so we were able to stick up for them together.
Honestly I’m pretty surprised that I got in the shark cage! I went on the boat figuring I could back out if I was too scared, but it just didn’t seem so bad once I was there. Luckily I lived to tell the story, but will never do it again!

SHARKS & SKY DIVING = awwwww heck no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hanson = AWWWW HECK YES! 😉
[email protected] says
Haha! I love finding all these other Hanson fans! And I don’t blame u for being anti- skydiving and sharks.
Cori @ She's Going the Distance says
I want to skydive sooo bad right now. sharks are a no go for me. deep water kinda freaks me out. Thanks for the nomination 🙂
[email protected] says
I guess I didn’t really think about how deep the water was! Hope you get to go skydiving at some point!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch says
First time reader/commenter and I’m SO HAPPY to find another person who was a huge Hanson fan! They were my JAM! I just wrote a post on this a few days ago about how annoying it was when people asked “Were you a BSB or N*SYNC fan growing up?” and I’m like what about Hanson? MMMBop was my anthem. I was in love with Taylor, for some reason – looking back on it I feel like he looks like a baby but I was only seven when they hit it big so he seemed like an adult to me back then haha. Aaaaanyway, I would never swim with sharks but I might skydive. I always said I would never do it but lately I’m trying to have a “Why not?” mentality. Weird thing though – I’d choose skydiving over bungee jumping any day. Not sure why but I feel like bungee jumping is much more dangerous. Glad to have found you!
[email protected] says
I love that you were such a huge Hanson fan, too! I wish I still had your “why not” mentality- I think I’ve gotten too practical over the years! And I don’t think I would feel any better about bungee jumping…seems just as dangerous to me!
Thanks for checking out my blog!:)

haha – loved ALL of these. Funny how we think ‘I can’t think of anything interesting’ … and yet you certainly DID! I always love these looks into other people’s ways of doing things.
I never cared much about making the bed, but it was a big deal for Lisa so it is something we do every day – but her only requirement is that it is made before we get into it. So when it happens depends on how our days are flowing.
And I laughed at the super-organized wedding. We got married before there WAS a ‘web’ or even widespread internet … but that didn’t stop me from having all of our stuff on spreadsheets and lists and maps and directions in Word and even an database with guests and accept/reject and gifts and so on! haha
[email protected] says
Glad that you can relate to the bed making thing! (well, that Lisa can relate and you are nice enough to go along with it:))
I don’t know how people planned weddings before the internet! I relied SO much on the Knot and Pinterest and finding vendors online. But I also definitely had spreadsheets as well!
Judith says
Thank you for the nomination! I wish I’d seen it before I finally gotten around to writing my inspiring blogger post. I’m so behind in blog reading. 🙁
I wasn’t really into Hansen although I love he song MmmBop. And I’d love to swim with sharks but I’m afraid of the scuba-ing.
[email protected] says
I didn’t follow the guideline of letting the bloggers know they were nominated, so that was my fault!
For the shark swimming we actually just snorkeled, if that makes it any better for you!

Hi
I do the TV thing as well. I put it on but never watch it. In fact my TV is on even as am writing this comment. Its an unusual distraction that I like to have. My son is similar in the sense he needs the computer on while he is studying. Guess everybody has some freaky things about them 🙂
