Isn’t it supposed to be October? Where did the nice fall temps from last weekend go? This weekend I managed to run my first double-digit run of the year. The only bad thing about it was the chafing. I was not prepared for the humidity even though I knew it would be in the 60s. While annoying (and painful) if that was the only bad thing about my first long run in forever, I’ll take it.
Monday: 4 mile fartlek run
This is how this run went down: 10 minutes easy, 4 minutes hard, 3 minutes easy, 3 minutes hard, 2 minutes easy, 2 minutes hard, 1 minute easy, 1 minute hard, 10 minute cool down
Tuesday: Strength training
I went to the gym for this workout to use heavier weights. It was really just for one exercise so I’m not sure if I will continue going on strength training days or just do those workouts from home.
Wednesday: 3.1 miles
Just an easy 5k. I find that my mid-week run is aways a struggle, probably because I’m tired and stressed from work. Mondays and Saturdays are always so much better!
Thursday: Strength training
Another strength training workout, this time at home. I wasn’t quite as sore from the hamstring curls on the stability ball this week!
Friday: 45 minutes spinning, glutes and core
I actually made this workout really productive by E-mailing myself a to-do list on my iPad as I was on the spin bike. Usually when i work out, I think of things I need to do in my head and then forget to write them down.
Saturday: 10 miles
I’m not quite sure how I ended up running 10 miles. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest decision but it felt right at the time. It was one of those runs where I just kept going. Other than the humidity, chafing, and soaked/knotty hair, it was a great run!
Sunday: Rest
I definitely needed a rest day after my hardest week of workouts in a while!
How many times do I need to suffer from chafing before I learn to always wear body glide? I just didn’t think that would be an issue in October. Lesson learned once again!

Was it humid this weekend where you live?
Do you ever “accidentally’ run longer than you intended?
Do you make to-do lists in your head awhile you are running?
meredith @ cookie chrunicles says
it has been so hot and humid here again for days! when will it end?! I don’t want winter but I would appreciate the 40’s and 50’s in the morning for running for sure.
Sam @ G&G Nutrition Co. says
It was a super humid weekend in NC! I was bummed because it had been cool prior to Saturday. I went outside to walk my dog and I was wearing a sweater… I got so steamy!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I am constantly surprised by how warm it is when I go outside! I keep thinking fall is right around the corner, an then summer just lingers.
Kristina says
I always make to do lists in my head when I am no where near a writing utensil and then forget half the things I need to do!
What kind of spin bike do you have? I’ve been thinking about buying one but I don’t know what to look for.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
The bike I have is the Sunny Health & Fitness Indoor Cycle Trainer 49 lb. Flywheel. Its been great and we have had it for just about a year now!
angela @ happy fit mama says
It was ridiculously humid over the weekend. I felt so bad for everyone running races because gills would have been better. Great job on the 10 miler but UGH! to the chafing.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I never thought I would be complaining about the heat and humidity in October!
Marcia says
Wow way to bang out 10! It was super humid here Saturday but thankfully it all blew out in time for the marathon. It’s a beautifully crisp 48 degrees here right now but supposed to hit 80 later. I swear the seasons are pushing later. Kids should go to school until July 1 and be off until October 1.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Im glad the marathoners didnt have to deal with that humidity! I was just saying the other day how much the seasons are changing. So strange!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Great job on your 10 miler! There have been some humid mornings here, but nothing too crazy. I am sure that will change once rainy season begins!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Usually by October its pretty cool here so this is very strange!
Susan says
10 miles! Wow…awesome job, girl. That is fantastic.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks!

Yay! A double digit run for you. Other than the humidity I bett that felt good to finally get back out there.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It sure did!!
Teresa says
Great week Lisa! Heck yeah, we had the humidity this past weekend too. It was mid 70s and 87% humidity for my Saturday run. Ugh…. just so over it.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Such tough weather for running! And not at all what we should be facing in October!
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
I’m sure it felt so good to be out there and run long, you’ve definitely come a long way!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It was a great feeling!
Lesley says
WTG!! I’m always tempted to keep running when I’m feeling good, but I’ve learned to stick with my schedule. It’s always a good feeling knowing I can keep going.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yes, definitely!
Kimberly Hatting says
I often make to-do lists in my head while running…and I have learned that if I “number the items,” I’m more likely to remember them (remember how quantity of items helps me to eventually remember what each item was LOL)
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Haha thats a good strategy! I’m so glad Im not the only one who makes to do lists while running and working out.
Marina @ Happy Healing says
Amazing week of workouts! Looks like you did a great mix of exercises. It was SO humid in Boston this weekend, ugh. Can’t wait for those dryer, cooler fall temps!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Agreed! I am so confused by this humidity at this point in the year.
HoHo Runs says
WHOOT for the 10 miler! Welcome back to double digits. TS Nate brought in some even more oppressive humidity that hasn’t left yet. I actually ran longer than planned today, but the body felt good so I kept at it. Trail Toes works wonders for chafing. Yes, I’m a broken record but I love that product. Thanks for linking!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I got Trail Toes a while ago when you recommended it! Unfortunately I didn’t think to use it before my run on Saturday…
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Ha! I learned my lesson (again) about chafing a few weeks ago. After that, the Body Glide went on and there was no chafing.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I really don’t know when I will learn!
Erinn says
What an incredible week of workouts! You should feel so proud of yourself – you rocked that 10 mile run. Chafing sucks period but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Hope you had a great Monday!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thank you! Yea the chafing is no good. Its definitely the worst I have ever experienced!
Kimberly G says
I feel like it’s going to be summer FOREVER! LoL Seriously, so over it now!
Congrats on your 10 mile run last week – that’s amazing! Sorry to hear about chafing, but still, 10 miles!!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thank yoU! I know, I can’t believe it!
Sara says
I feel like working out is my best thinking time! I like how your emailed yourself a to do list!
Great week of workouts! I am so ready for the fall weather! It can come any day now.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! Yes, working out is such a good time for thinking! I feel like I solve so many problems when I am out running.
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
You and Alex both pulled out surprise 10 milers this weekend! Must have been all the marathon buzz
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I definitely think that must have had something to do with it!
Kerri says
CONGRATS ON DOUBLE DIGITS!! I’m still a couple of weeks out from double digit runs after my injury, but I’m so, so excited to see that you’re getting back at it!!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! Thats great that you are getting close too…hope you get there soon!
Karen Bayne says
Central VA the humidity was at an all time high, even with body glide I chafed some. I keep looking for another option to see if it will work better.
I am impressed you emailed yourself a list!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
The humidity has been just awful lately!
San says
Here in California, we luckily doesn’t deal with too much humidity… thank goodness. That doesn’t mean I don’t sweat in 100+F… haha.
So happy you were back to double digits… I definitely “accidentally” run longer than I intended. I love going by how I feel.
And yes to the to-do list… I do so much thinking on my long runs 🙂
San says
*don’t
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Im sure 100 degrees is really tough for running! It usually doesnt get quite that hot around here. But the humidity is bad pretty much all summer.
