A Look Back at June 2016

As I said in Wednesday’s post, June went by in a flash and once again I am writing a monthly update and questioning how another month of 2016 has come and gone. June had its ups and downs. I dealt with a foot issue most of the month, but I also ran a PR at the Baltimore 10 miler. The real focus on June though was just about making it through a busy month, which meant taking a break from blogging.

You can read my other 2016 updates here:

Summary of June:

I basically recapped half of June in my last post, so I won’t go into too much detail again. It was a busy month filled with traveling for work and a wedding, conferences, family time, and a race. I took time off of running because my foot was bothering me, and ended up taking two weeks off from blogging. Also, I got to meet Meredith while I was in NY for a wedding! Global Running Day was on June 1st, and that now feels like it was SO long ago!  Overall it was a good month, because the fun stuff outweighed the tough stuff!

FITNESS GOALS:

  1. Continue to work on staying strong and healthy  This didn’t go so well. The current goal is figuring out what caused the problem, giving it time to heal, and prevent it from happening again.
  2. Run/Walk 2016 miles This month I ran 49 miles and walked 90 miles. I’m at a total of 1124 miles for the year. (I track my walking using my Vivofit but subtract a mile each day for what I consider just getting around the house.)
  3. Work towards a BQ  Still no marathons scheduled for anytime soon, and this month’s setback made me appreciate this even more. I am really not ready for marathon training right now!
  4. Work towards sub 1:40 half I’m still considering training for a half this fall. Hopefully I will decide about this soon!
  5. Do at least 10 push-ups 3 days per week I did keep up with this in June, and it was good to have it as a goal to keep me on track. When I take a break from running it can be easy to skip all strength training too!

OTHER GOALS:

  1. Improve posture Honestly, this was the last thing on my mind this month. Hopefully I will focus on it again especially as things at work quiet down a bit (maybe).
  2. Move more Due to being so busy, I was actually very active this month! This wasn’t always a good thing though, as I was trying to rest my foot as much as possible.
  3. Focus on saving money I think I just need to ignore this question for this month…between the traveling, wedding, birthdays, etc it was a rough one!
  4. Get back in the habit of weekly meal prep I did a little meal prep each week but didn’t need to do as much as usual due to being away or eating out.
  5. Make time to unplug Taking some time away from blogging definitely helped with this. I didn’t feel the need to pull out my laptop at night because I just told myself not to worry about blogging stuff. It was a nice break, but I definitely did miss it!

I am really excited that this weekend I don’t have much going on. I am looking forward to just relaxing and doing whatever I feel like!

I hope the foot gets its act together asap! Mine is giving me a little trouble as well. WTF?

So sorry to hear that, and I am pretty frustrated. I went to the doctor and he was no help. Wanted me to take a prescription anti-inflammatory and just rest. I asked if there was strengthening I could do and he said “no, I think this was just a fluke thing…”

I too have spent much of June unplugged. The blog has suffered but I don’t regret it one bit as I feel like I really enjoyed one of my favorite (and most fleeting) months. I agree with you June 1 feels like light years ago.

I don’t regret time off from blogging either! I think we need it once in awhile, especially when its a fun time of year.

June did go by so quickly! Injuries/minor setbacks can throw goals off but I think setbacks csn be valuable in revealing our priorities. Training for a fall half would be so fun and less stressful than a marathon. I bet you can get that sub 1:40!

It does feel exciting to think about “just” training for a half since it has been so long since I did that! I would enjoy being back on a schedule but not have to put in the time and energy thats required for a full.

Ooooh what fall half marathon are you looking into?! I’d love to do a fall race but I don’t think it’s in the cards for me this year. I should (need?) focus on saving money too–it’s so much easier to online shop and go to happy hours during the summer!

I was actually chosen to be an ambassador for the Annapolis running classic! I am planning to share more about it next week, but I will have a discount code. You should look into it! Its a great late fall race.

June went really well for me! In July I have a biking/camping trip that should be a lot of fun. 🙂

I just logged my miles for half the yr and I am no where near 2,016. Only 537. I guess I better step it up. I can’t believe June is already over either.

The only reason my numbers are as high as they are is because I count the walking. Its really tough to run that many miles in a year I think!

Ah, those foot issues! Not that I know anything about that…

Busy month for you! I took a week off blogging when we went to California (in April) and I really missed it too!

June (and the rest of this year!) did seem to fly by! I hope your foot is feeling better soon! It sounds like June was a fun month overall. I like your goal of running and walking 2016 miles. Maybe I’ll make that a goal for next year!

It was definitely a reasonable goal up until I hurt my foot! Hopefully once it heals I will be able to get back on track.

June really felt like it inched by up to a certain point and then began to fly. While I didn’t quite meet my monthly mileage goal running, I did stick to my marathon training plan for Month 1/5 so that made up for it!

I think sticking to the plan is more important than the numbers, so great job!

19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 to 19 miles! 7 on the treadmill, 12 outside, 1,272 total feet of elevation gain. Amazing weather. Listened to Life of a Showgirl on the treadmill and had some podcasts saved for my outside run but couldn’t get my headphones to connect. This was challenging by the end and I kept thinking how hard it would be if I needed to run another 7 miles today (and all miles at a faster pace) but this is why we train. Feeling like I’m in a good place with 6 weeks to go! How was your run today? #run #marathontraining #longrun
