Hello, and welcome to the first full week of the new year! Hopefully everyone has still stuck to their resolutions for 2016. If not, it’s a new week and there’s always a new chance to get started!
I’ve enjoyed getting started on my goals for the year; however, that will likely change when I am back to work (today) and faced with the typical stresses of daily life. I typed this from a standing workstation that I created for myself in my kitchen using this laptop stand that I got for Christmas. I also meal prepped for the week and got in a walk and some push-ups!
Anyway, let’s go all the way back to 2105 and talk about the workouts from last week.
Monday: 35 minutes pure barre (Mile High Series 2)
Tuesday: 3.3 mile run + core/glute exercises
Wednesday: Full body TRX workout
Thursday: 5.2 mile run + pure bare tone in 10 (thighs and abs)
Friday: 7 miles following a modified version of Meredith’s negative split workout
Walk: 1 mile, Push-ups: 25
Saturday: 5 miles with hills
Walk: 3 miles, Push-ups: 30
Sunday: Rest
Walk: 2 miles, Push-ups: 30
Total: Run: 20.5 miles, Walk: 6 miles (since 1/1), Push-ups: 3 days
As you can see I started tracking my walking and push-ups. I’m using my vivofit to track my walking (based on miles tracked per day minus my running miles and 1 other mile for “standard steps” like walking around the house). Not sure if that makes sense, but it’s working for now!
I had a really productive weekend and I feel very prepared to head into a new week. If only this level of motivation and organization could continue throughout the rest of the year!

Love that laptop stand, haven’t seen one before! So far motivation is lacking today but it’s early 🙂 after my run hopefully I’ll be ready to go. Great workouts!
I definitely felt good after my run this morning but halfway through the day all motivation was lost!
Im on Fire now. But but check back with me on Wednesday 🙂
I hear ya! I already feel like Im fading…
I need a laptop stand. But first I need a healed sacrum. Can you help out with that?
You know I wish I could:(
My sister swears by a stand up desk she uses all day at work. I know my hips would appreciate one. I worked over the weekend to get some year end tasks finished. So, my motivation is pretty good today as I have a nice clean desk to go to. My goal is to keep it that way until leaving for Disney later this week. I’ve never logged my walking miles, but I should. I have a new Garmin 225 coming that can be used as an activity tracker. I think I’ll give up the Fitbit and just wear that. I’m in awe of your push ups. No can do! Thanks for linking with us Lisa! Happy New Year!
I don’t know if I could handle standing all day, but I think it would be nice to be able to alternate between sitting and standing!
Happy New Year to you too!
I had high hopes of starting the new yr off w some good runs and I haven’t done that yet. I didn’t end up feeling good and it was too cold out to run outside. Luckily I did manage a few miles on the treadmill. You have a great mix of workouts. I need to start incorporating other workouts other than running.
Its a good time of year to cut back a bit…especially with your upcoming race!
LISA!! In the Wednesday pic is your iPad propped against the door handle?! I feel so nervous for it! 😀 It does look like it provides the perfect heigh for following along with video workouts though!
I am feeling motivated for this week! I got terrible sleep last night and I know I’ll be exhausted by the time I get home tonight but I am hopeful that means I’ll go to bed early and get back on a good sleeping schedule starting tonight!
Haha yes it was! I know it looks bad but it was very secure:) There was no where else to put it that I could see it while I worked out.
Great workouts! I want a laptop stand like that for my home office. Part of me has the motivation to work today, but the other part of me is having a hard time shifting back into the daily routine.
I thought I was ready to go back but it was really tough to get motivated and stay focused!
LOVE you standing desk! I’ve thought about doing something similar. You’ll have to share how you end up liking it!! Happy 2016 🙂
So far its great! I can also use it if Im laying down to prop up my laptop…but Im trying not to do that and just stand more:)
Love Mile High 2, I think it’s my favorite one. Glad you brought back the negative split workout! Love it.
Its always a good one!
I just keep on keeping on 🙂
And since that is my ‘2016 goal’ … same as 2015, where I ran >3000 miles, stayed healthy and constant weight and felt great … why NOT repeat?!? 🙂
Thats awesome that you had such a great year and are feeling so good! I like having new challenges to work towards, but I also know there are some areas that need some improvement. Hoping you have a great 2016!
Mentally I am struggling a bit to get back to my routine with work but I am sure I will settle back in. I think I adjusted to having short weeks the past 2 weeks! I love the idea of a standing desk! Looks like you created a great one for yourself. I have kept on track with my workouts last week but my food choices were slacking so I am all prepared to get back on track this week.
Its really tough to work a full week when you are used to shorter ones! My food choices slacked a bit over the holidays too. It feels good to get back on track!
Only 1 run so far this year. Battling some post marathon tendonitis. Going at it again today. Signed up for 2,016 miles in 2016. Easing into Whole30 this week. Practicing really. First timer over here. The meal planning is overwhelming me right now. Did great this am but ordered a chai tea and they gave me a latte. :-/ I expect it’s going to be one of those weeks. Sigh…..
Hang in there! I think there will always be setbacks but we just need to be prepared to work a little harder to overcome them:) Good luck with the Whole30!
I’m starting on my goals for this year with my races this weekend in Florida to kick off the year in which I attempt to run a marathon! I am still figuring out other life goals, but that’s always a work in progress…
Thats such an exciting goal and I know you will have a great year!
I’m really happy to be running again and I feel like I have this renewed appreciation for everything. When my back hurt last week, I couldn’t help but be so scared that it would never heal. And I’ve been eating veggies and fruit every single day for the past 3 days and I swear to you that it has nothing to do with January 1st. It just so happens that that’s the day I started making changes! I meal prepped and chopped veggies yesterday and it’s all ready for the week. I feel really good! You have helped me with all this. Thank you!
I’m so proud of you!! I hope that you love feeling organized with that stuff and that your running benefits from all those fruits and veggies:)
I love that you have a laptop stand, I wish we could get those at my work! I only worked out Monday and Tuesday last week since my best friend and her husband came to DC for New Years, so I haven’t exactly been eating well or working out the last five days. Waking up early was really tough today, but I made it to the gym for a sweat session, and am back on track with my healthy eating habits!
I want to figure out a way to stand up at work too. I work in a cubic with low cabinets above my computer so I would need to figure out a space to actually fit a standing desk.
Nice job getting to the gym this morning! Sounds like your week is off to a great start:)
Awesome! I haven’t worked out in almost 2 weeks because of bronchitis. I’m ready to get back to it! I’m so jealous of your TRX! That would be so awesome to have at home!!
It’s so great! Now that marathon training is over I really want to experiment a bit more with it.
I would love to invest in TRX! I used them all the time when Iifted at the gym. Inverted Row was my JAM!
That is a great exercise! I really prefer doing all basic exercises using the TRX, even though they are more challenging!
My workouts were definitely spotty until I got back to Texas. I got back on schedule and it feels good to be back to that. Regular work, not so much. I’m almost caught up and I feel ready for a nap.
I agree! Its nice to get back to workouts but tough to get back to work:/
Sounds like a great week! I need to do a better job of subtracting my runs from my step total. I don’t walk nearly enough at work! Love the stand up desk!
It is such a challenge for me too! I feel like there is nowhere to walk around my office, and Im crammed in a tiny cubicle. I need to figure out a way to get creative with it!
Nice job! You have it so together. I love barre workouts for x-training, it makes my running feel so much lighter and stronger. And I love how you make the time and environment for productive home workouts. That’s SO valuable in terms of saving time! Sometimes it’s the only way I can get any activity into my day.
I quit my gym membership last June so since then its been all at-home workouts! It definitely helps to do different types of workouts so I don’t get bored.
Lisa, I have no doubt that you’ll stay motivated to continue working on your goals this year; you are great at getting it done!! I love that you’re incorporating so many different types of workouts into your training; this inspires me to branch out! Hope you have a great start to the week, and your new home workstation is awesome!
Thanks Tara! I definitely enjoy trying out different workouts. Have a great week!
Motivation is low over here. I didn’t sleep so hot the past few nights. I feel like I need a good nights sleep or two to really get back on track. I have so much I want to get started on.
Also, in your Wednesday pic, I am so nervous for your iPad on the door…or maybe it’s secured & I just can’t see it!?
Nope its not really secured but it fit snuggly between the handle and the door and didnt move at all! I was nervous at first but it really stayed in place well and it was the only place where i could see it while I used the TRX.
I hope you can get caught up on sleep and can get back not track!
how do you like doing purre barre at home? do you think you push yourself just as hard? i tried working out at home but i dont think i was doing it right i never felt like i had a good workout.
I think the studio classes are harder but they are also longer than the DVDs I have. I feel like it does a good enough job for the price since barre studios can be so expensive. For me its just a good way to get in a different type of workout!
I’ve always wanted to try barre workouts but didn’t want to pay the expensive class fees. Maybe I should try that DVD! Do you have to have the TRX system or any special equipment to do it?
There are alot of different barre DVD options, and some videos require a ball and/or weights but some don’t require any equipment. There are lots of options you can try without any equipment to see if you like it!
I LOVE your standing desk, I really want one at work but I need to get a Drs note (I need to work on this!) HA! Also, great job with your workouts. How do you like the Barre videos? I have done a few YouTube barre videos that I like, but haven’t purchased one yet! Your goals for 2016 look great and I am keeping my fingers crossed you get that BQ, I think you can do it!!
Thanks! That would be great if you could get a standing desk at work. I don’t have room for one on my cubicle but I am trying to figure out a way to creatively standing sometimes during the day. At least I have the option to stand up while I am blogging from home!
Great week! I got a jump on my….let’s call them goals….then lapsed a little on NYE and NYD, now I’m back on track. It’s good to be back to the routine!
Nice job! Glad you were able to take a little break and enjoy the holidays:)
You’re off to a strong start to the New Year! I was motivated last week with a few vacation runs and a change of scenery. It’s getting cold here now and it’s going to get harder to get out of my warm bed in the mornings.
Its been so cold this week, and its definitely harder to get out of bed in the mornings!
How do you get your tablet to stay on the doorknob like that? I’d breathe and stuff would fall off! LOL
It actually fit in there snuggly somehow and didnt move at all!
I sit all day long so I’d like one of these standing laptop stands, course I’ve been trying to talk my boss into a treadmill desk, no such luck though. lol
I just trying to get through this week then I feel like I can start my new year! Your off to a great start, let’s keep the motivation going!
A treadmill desk would be so awesome! Its been nice to be able to stand up while I am on my computer at home, now I just need to figure out a way to do that at work!
