We made it to Thursday! I am heading to a wedding tomorrow, so it’s my last workday of the week. I figured it’s been a while since I wrote a thinking out loud post so today seemed like a good day to do that.
Ever since I ran those two races in April I have been trying to squeeze in more. My weekends have been limited but I really want to run something Memorial Day weekend. I’m thinking 5k or 10k but not sure where. Then I have a 10 miler on June 4th.
I am also planning to run a 5k the weekend of June 19th. (After getting back from another wedding the day before- so I have no PR expectations whatsoever). This race is to raise money for a local hospital (GBMC) where my friend’s twin babies were in the NICU last June. Local runners should consider signing up or non-locals can donate to support a great cause!
As you may notice, my spring weekends continue to be hectic. One thing that has helped a ton is getting our groceries delivered. We did a free 30 day trial of Amazon Fresh. So far it’s been great! We can order on Friday afternoon and get our groceries delivered on Saturday morning. They will even package them to stay cold so they can leave them on your doorstep if you are not home at delivery time. Not sure if we will continue using this when our free trial is over, but it’s very tempting.
I found this new (to me) exercise that I think you should try. Dr. Blake posted this on his Facebook page and I figured I would give it a try. I can do single legged squats and dead lifts so I thought these would be similar. Nope! I could do 5 on each leg and they were a struggle. I am sure they are great for improving stabilizing muscles for runners and working the glutes and quads.
Is this not the strangest spring ever? Actually I just think all of 2016 has been wacky. We got all those warm days in the winter and now it’s May but feels like March. Apparently Baltimore almost broke some record of the longest streak of rain since 1935. According to this article, we hit 14 consecutive days of rain and the record is 15 days. However, it was literally just a “pause” in our streak because after the 15 days was over we had like one day without rain and then it was back again.
I’ve gotten more use of my rain jacket and umbrella this year than ever before!
Last Saturday I ran in shorts and a tank top, and then Sunday I was in capris and a long-sleeved 1/2 zip. Our community pool is supposed to open next week and I’m still wearing a jacket to work most days! We have even seen lows in the 30s some mornings.
Come on summer running, I’m ready for you!
Be sure to go see what Amanda and everyone else is thinking about today!
What races are your running over the next few months?
Do you ever have your groceries delivered?
Can you do pistol squats?
