Recent Running Favorites

It’s been awhile since I shared my running favorites. I figured this was a good week to do so since I missed this topic last week for TOTR and I don’t have a spring race update to share this week. So it all works out!

Here is a roundup of some of the running clothes, gear, and accessories that I've been loving lately! #running #gear #springrunning

I actually haven’t been buying too much running stuff lately. I got a bunch of things for Christmas that I am still using. I’ve been better about recognizing the difference between needing running gear/clothes and wanting them. (Wait, is there really a difference?)

So let’s talk about some of my recent running favorites.

Recent Running Favorites

Athleta Speedlight Tea

Believe it or not, this is my first and only item that I’ve owned from Athleta. I also received a tank top for Christmas but it didn’t fit well. I went into the store to exchange it but couldn’t find anything else that I liked. Luckily, the t-shirt is really comfortable and fits great! I like that it’s long so I used it for layering on cold runs this winter.

Plya Reflective Reversible Headband

I like that this headband is a little bit lighter than the others I own. It’s been good for this early-spring days that are still cold. I also think it would be good for wearing under a hat if you need two layers.

headband

Brooks Levitate

These are still my new favorite pair of running shoes. They’re so comfortable, not too heavy, and are perfect for just about any type of run.

Levitates

GapFit Breathe Racerback Tank

This was my first GapFit tank top and I got really lucky that it fit perfectly even though I ordered it online and totally guessed at the size! (I ordered a small.) I think all of my other tank tops are Oiselle so this is a nice change. It’s nice and long so will be good for layering. (Notice how almost all my purchases are based on the ability to layer them?)

Oiselle New Jogging Tights

I got these tights in blue which was a nice change from all my other black tights. They are comfortable and have pockets which is always a win! I’ve only worn them maybe 3 or 4 times but they have worked out well so far.

tights

Hydro Flask Water Bottle

This water bottle has been great for running on the treadmill. It keeps my water really cold and is easy to sip out of while I am running. (Well, sort of. I’m not very coordinated while running on the treadmill so I usually slow down a lot to take a drink of water.)

Nordic Track Commercial 2450

You didn’t think I could get through a whole post about my favorite running stuff without talking about my treadmill did you? Well I have already talked about it enough here, so I’ll leave it at that.

I haven’t really bought anything new for running aside from those gap fit tanks that I mentioned recently! I also haven’t been in to Lululemon to see what’s new in months. I may keep it that way, I really don’t need anything lol

I feel like its better to stay away from shopping for running stuff. I always end up buying stuff that I don’t really need!

All of my running gear is from Oiselle. Love their clothes! Have you tried the pocket jogger shorts? Those are great. I am expecting another pair today and cannot wait. We are supposed to have warmer weather this afternoon so I am looking forward to running in them.

Those Levitate! One day I will get them. I bought the Asteria and so far like them.

My all time favorite gear is the Oiselle Lightening Layer. Perfect top/vest to wear when running in the dark.

I have not tried the pocket jogger shorts! I will need to look into those. There was a style they used to make back in like 2013-2014 that I loved and they stopped making! So I could definitely go for some more shorts.

I actually really like Athleta running gear–I love the fit and the quality is good. The tights are my favorite. Maybe we’ll be able to wear some of those shorts and tanks soon?

I sure hope so! I do like the quality of Athleta. I just feel like the tops are really long! (which can be good or bad). I haven’t tried any bottoms from there.

I love Athleta but I find some of their tanks/tops are way too long on me. I am all about layering as well. With the conditions we’ve had, we have to be! Ha!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 10, 2018 at 5:42 pm

That was the problem with the tank tops for me. They fell too low in the front and under the arms, even though I didn’t mind too much that they were long. It wasn’t really a problem with the t-shirt for some reason.

I really want to try those Levitates. I hope that they go on sale soon. I love my hydroflask too. That ice stays in there forever!

I hope they go on sale soon too! They have been out for a long time and I don’t think I have seen them on sale anywhere yet.

I know 3 other runners that absolutely LOVE the Brooks Levitate sneakers. Are they similar to the Launch sneakers (neutral)? I’ll admit that I love all of the colors of the Levitate sneakers!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 10, 2018 at 5:44 pm

They are kind of similar, but have a little more cushioning. I feel like they sort of mold to your foot so it makes you not even notice that you are wearing a shoe!

I have two of those Athleta tees (in the same color, oops!) and wear them for most runs right now. I want to get the long sleeve one also. I like how long their tops are since I am tall with a long torso – and their colors are pretty.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 10, 2018 at 5:45 pm

I want to try the long sleeve tops too. I feel like those would fit me if they are a similar style to the t-shirt. The cut of the tanks just didnt work for me because everything fell too low.

Yes! Thank for sharing details about that running headband! I’m always on the lookout for one, especially since we’ve had such a long winter this year!

It’s kind of disappointing that we still need headbands in April!

I am in the market for a treadmill soon (YAY new house!) and I have been hearing great thinks about that Nordic. I might go for it myself!

      April 10, 2018 at 5:46 pm

That’s so exciting!! I definitely recommend Nordic track.

It’s nice to be able to know what works rather than having to try different styles and sizes!

Great list! I always love to hear what other runners approve of. I need a new water bottle (soon!), so I might look into getting a Hydroflask. Is it easy to clean (because I use NUUN often).

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 10, 2018 at 5:48 pm

The actual bottle is really easy to clean, but depending on what kind of lid you get that can be tricky. They sell lids separately so you could always just get whichever one you want.

I LOVE my hydroflask. It keeps water super cold, even after being in a hot environment all day. I also like Athleta Polartec Power Stretch Tights – they are great for cold weather running. Probably not needed as we head into the summer, but highly recommended for the winter.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 10, 2018 at 5:48 pm

I will need to look into those tights! At this rate, I feel like I’ll be wearing tights all year long.

I was just given a pair of the Brooks Levitate shoes and was waiting until after my race to try them out. Glad to hear you love them. Athleta clothes are always great quality

Recently I’ve been loving my Brooks Juno sports bra. It’s the best! It holds me in place and isn’t too low cut so I’ll feel comfortable running in it during those hot summer runs.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 11, 2018 at 5:10 pm

Ohh I’ll need to look into that! I havent bought new sports bras in way too long.

  15. Kimberly Hatting says

    April 11, 2018 at 9:35 pm

You mentioned wearing summer gear, and I wear it year-round. Tanks are especially great as an extra “fitted” layer underneath everything and stay tucked into my tights pretty well.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 12, 2018 at 5:26 am

I totally agree. I wear tank tops under all my other layers for my winter runs.

I haven’t tried any of these products (lame, I know) but i really do want to try Athleta! I’ve heard great things!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      April 13, 2018 at 5:08 am

It does seem like Athleta makes really good quality products! I just need to figured out the sizing and which types of items fit me well.

Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by back to back kid activities, so there was no time to post about it. (I ate breakfast in the car and lunch at soccer practice- it was that kind of a day.) I was kind of nervous going in to this run, especially now that I’m getting down to last few key long runs. I had 16 miles with 4 x 2 miles on the plan, which sounded manageable but also challenging. The weather was perfect and I hit all my paces. At the end I got a little confused- thinking I was at 15 miles but I was actually at 14 🙃 Got home and realized I chafed really bad. Another long run down, and another week closer to race day.
