Versatile Blogger Survey

It’s been a long, long time since I did any kind of survey, and I always think they are kind of fun! I was tagged in a few a couple months ago when I wasn’t blogging much and never got around to doing them. On Monday Sara tagged me in a Versatile Blogger Survey so I thought I would go and answer her questions today!

1. What is something people might be surprised to learn about you? I shared some random facts about my self in this post last year. Other than that, I guess I will tell you that I am not an “animal person” and you will probably all think I am a cruel human, but it’s the truth. I don’t hate them or anything, I just would never want to have a pet and there are a million other places I would rather go besides the zoo or aquarium.

2. Have you ever met someone famous? When I was studying abroad in London I met Alyson Hannigan. She was in the play “When Harry Met Sally” with Luke Perry and after I went to see it I met her outside and got a picture with her!

alysonhannigan

3.What is something you hope will never come back in style? The first thing that comes to mind is overalls. Also, crimped hair.

4. What is one place on your travel must-see bucket list? Lately I have been thinking about how I want to go out west to do some running. Whether it’s a race, or just a vacation with lots of time of the trails, I think it would be really fun. This is probably because I am jealous of Laura who just moved to Washington!

5. Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life? I have no idea, it’s too weird to even think about a movie of my life.

6. Who is your favorite Disney Princess? I was trying to think of one so I googled “Disney Princesses” and found this quiz to determine your favorite princess…I got Rapunzel although I don’t think of all the Disney princesses I would have picked her on my own.

Tangled_Rapunzel_Icon

7. What would you sing at karaoke night? Anything by Billy Joel:) I got a lot of practice with that from about 2001-2006.

hunters
Once upon a time, we were the star karaoke singers at Hunter’s Pub in Carle Place

8. Who would you want to be stranded with on a deserted island? I don’t really want to be stranded on a desert island. Fine, I’ll take my husband. He has fairly good survival skills and way more common sense than me.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve? I hate hate hate wet socks. And people who walk slow in front of me.

10. What clothing item/accessory/shoes do you have way too many of in your closet? I don’t think I have an excessive amount of shoes, but there are quite a few especially when you include running shoes. Actually I should probably say that I have way too many workout clothes.

I knew we shared a part of our brains because I’m not an animal person either and always feel bad about it! And yes wet socks are the worst, I shudder at the thought.

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:10 pm

Wow I am glad Im not the only one who isn’t an animal person! But don’t you have a cat? Rob and I have already decided that we will need to raise our kids to not be animal people either because they will never be allowed to have a pet.

      • Michele @ paleorunningmomma says

        May 29, 2015 at 7:42 pm

Haha yes! We actually adopted him from my cousin after she found out her daughter was allergic. I wouldn’t have done it on my own, but Adam loves cats. He will be my first and last pet I have a feeling, as much as I care for him at this point I know now more than ever that I’m really not an animal person as bad as that sounds.

I hate to say that I am seeing overalls again in stores! I don’t like zoos or aquariums either. My son does but I can think of 100 other things I would rather do too.

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 6:57 pm

I can’t believe overalls are coming back! And glad Im not the only one who doesn’t like the zoo or aquarium.

  3. Susie @ SuzLyfe says

    May 29, 2015 at 7:19 am

OMG wet socks and shoes are one of my biggest pet peeves. It is part of the reason that I don’t like running in/after the rain.

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 6:57 pm

They need to come off immediately once I get inside.

  4. Maddie @ Dixie Runs says

Overalls are totally back in… but wet socks will always be the worst!

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 6:58 pm

I am shocked to be learning that today! Not sure if I would ever buy them again though.

  5. Kristina says

I’m so with you on hair crimpers and slow walkers! Let’s ban them from life! haha

      Haha yes!

  6. Sam @ The Running Graduate says

    May 29, 2015 at 8:20 am

Wet socks are the worst! The only feeling I can put up with that is sand in my sandals/shoes. I like animals a lot but I am not a dog person, I especially dislike big ones!

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 6:59 pm

I hate getting sand in there too. I love running on the beach, but it does come with its problems:) If I had to choose I would pick a small dog over a big dog.

  7. Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says

    May 29, 2015 at 8:39 am

Wet socks are literally the bane of my running existence. With a nice brimmed cap I can run in the rain any day, but it’s those squelchy squishy shoes that really do me in…

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 6:59 pm

I hate that feeling! I don’t mind running in the rain except for that part.

  8. Jamie says

    May 29, 2015 at 9:32 am

I literally cannot deal with wet socks. Especially when runnning. The squishing sound is just too much. But my biggest pet peeve is definitely being late. I just can’t handle it.. My boyfriend saw Billy Joel in concert with his family this year and said it was AH-MAZE-ING. I think you need to go ! 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!!

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:00 pm

I hate being late too..or feeling like I gonna be late/having to rush. I saw Billy Joel a few years ago and would love to see him again!

  9. Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says

    May 29, 2015 at 9:52 am

Come out to Washington to race and visit me! And thank you for the tag 🙂
I really hate wet socks. Where I went to college we would get sudden downpours all the time, and I actually carried dry socks in my bag so I wouldn’t suffer through a class with wets socks.

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:00 pm

Yippee! I love talking about myself… lol thanks for the tag! It’s funny because I think I know you well *enough* from reading your blog to not be surprised by any of your answers. Andrew likes animals from a distance too. Ha ha! Like how I worded that?

Thanks for tagging me. 🙂 I will do it!

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:02 pm

So are you saying that you like wet socks?! I would be shocked if you did. Looking forward to reading your answers!

      • Megan @ Meg Go Run says

        May 29, 2015 at 8:23 pm

Haha no I can’t say I like wet socks but for my hubby it is like the WORST thing in the world if his socks get wet! For me, I am just like “ooh, my socks got wet. I will change them.”

  13. Marcia says

    May 29, 2015 at 10:41 am

Oh I’m with you on overalls. Rompers are awful too. Remember the Lululemon Runsie? Wth were they thinking??

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:03 pm

I just don’t get it! I am hearing that overalls are back in style, I think I will have to pass up that trend.

  14. Charissa says

    May 29, 2015 at 11:36 am

Well, I can’t resist a Disney quiz so I took it and I got Anna AND Elsa. But if I had to pick my favorite of the two it’d be Anna 🙂
Wet socks are awful but I think people walking slow in front of me is even worse! Especially when there’s a group and they take up the entire sidewalk/path and you can’t pass them – UGH! That’s the worst!!
Hope you have a great weekend, Lisa!

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:03 pm

Exactly- when you can’t pass a group of people its so annoying! I feel like they can probably sense my frustration from behind them:)

  15. Beth @ RUNNING around my kitchen says

    May 29, 2015 at 11:57 am

I studied abroad in London too 🙂 And I just saw overalls in a store in the mall yesterday and was like, “ugh are those really back in style?” I can’t even buy little overalls for the boys because I personally don’t like them so much…..even though I think they would actually be adorable in them.

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:04 pm

Yay for London! And I can’t believe overalls are back. I really had no idea when I wrote this. I do think they look cute on kids though!

  16. Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says

    May 29, 2015 at 12:10 pm

Wet socks are the worst! I have way too many pairs of flip flops in my closet and I hope overalls never come back in style. I lived in them during college and they are just so unflattering! Have a great weekend!!

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:05 pm

I feel like i have a hard time finding flip flops so I could probably use a few more pairs in my closet! I am hearing today that overalls are coming back..I don’t think I will be buying any though!

  17. Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says

    May 29, 2015 at 12:40 pm

My biggest pet peeve…when my husband dips food into nut butters and leaves crumbs IN the nut butter….SO ANNOYING and disgusting!

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:06 pm

Yuck! On the radio the other day someone suggested they make wider PB jars or ones that open down the middle. I thought that sounded pretty genius…and maybe he could dip his food without leaving crumbs behind:)

  18. Hailey says

    May 29, 2015 at 1:25 pm

Such a fun survey! Thanks for tagging me in it :). I don’t think you’re cruel at all for not liking animals, and I love (most of) them. Wet socks are awful and fresh clean socks and/or new socks are the best. I usually bring another pair of shoes and socks for after a race since a trip out to breakfast usually follows, and I feel like I have new feet after haha. I never crimped my hair, but I remember my sister doing it all the time. I did wear overalls pretty much everyday in elementary school though ha.

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:07 pm

Thanks for not thinking I am cruel:) I thought the crimped hair look was so cool back then but when I look back at pictures I want to cringe!

  19. Natalie says

    May 29, 2015 at 4:44 pm

    This is so fun!
Wet socks are the worst for sure!
I think acid wash jeans can stay in the 80s 🙂
Travel bucket list: There are so many places I want to visit – but I’d love to go to New Zealand and Australia (ok. 2 places, but hard to pick!) sometime soon.
    Have a great weekend!!

    • [email protected] says

  20. Lily @ Lily Runs the World says

    May 29, 2015 at 5:08 pm

Overalls are so comfortable though!! I haven’t owned a pair since I was 15, but I tried some on at a store recently and I kind of wanted them… You should definitely come run out west! The weather is unbeatable 🙂

    • [email protected] says

      May 29, 2015 at 7:09 pm

Hm I guess i don’t remember if overalls are comfortable…but maybe! I am all about the comfort:) I had no idea they were back in style! I would love to come out west at some point:)

How cool you got a pic w Alyson Hannigan. That’s funny that you said you hope overalls never come back in. I have been seeing a lot of them lately in style magazines. I think they are trying to make a comeback.

OMG YES I can’t stand slow walkers! Drives me crazy.
So random, but really cool that you met Alyson Hannigan. I used to LOVE How I Met Your Mother.
Also, crimped hair was pretty terrible. I had completely forgotten about it!

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
