Is it really Monday again already? Maybe you are one of the lucky people who has the day off today. I’ll be working, but since the school where I work is closed that means an office/paperwork day for me. This kids are off on Tuesday as well (for staff professional development) so it’s a nice way to ease back into the workweek.
How about that weather this weekend? I feel like 95% of you are nodding in agreement. And those of you who had nice weather, well…we don’t like you. Just kidding. We are just insanely jealous of you and question our decision to live where we do every day from December through March.
The wind was so scary all of Saturday evening and Sunday. Plus we got just enough snow on Saturday night to make the sidewalks and streets nice and icy. It looks like we may get some more snow this week too. I don’t know how the Boston people have survived this winter with snowstorm after snowstorm.
Anyway, at least the weather was good on Saturday so I could run outside. Between running less days per week and doing some of my runs on the Alter-G the outdoor runs don’t happen very often. I did 8 miles of an out-and-back flat route and felt really good.
We also got to see our new house! We hadn’t been there in two weeks so this time we got to see some of the kitchen put together and most of the bathrooms are done! It’s a little scary to have to wait to see the stuff we picked out in the design center and hope that it looks good! Now I just need to see the floors to know that it all came together nicely.
We made the very silly decision to go to Whole Foods on a Saturday at 11am. On a day that we were expecting a “snow storm”. We should have driven away immediately when we had a difficult time finding a parking spot but instead we circled around a bit and then created our own spot in the corner on some grass. Once we got inside I knew we were in big trouble. Rob and I split up to get the few things we had gone there for and met up in the line to check out, which we had to stand in for 15 minutes. The craziest part is that I am pretty sure we were the only ones phased by this madness. Everyone else was smiling and relaxed and enjoying their Saturday. I guess we just aren’t meant to shop at Whole Foods because I really don’t have the patience for that.
Our reasoning behind going to Whole Foods in the first place was to get steaks to cook for Valentines Day. So after getting a bunch of errands done we stayed in, cooked dinner, drank wine, and laid on the couch in pajamas. Perfect way to celebrate if you ask me:)
We realized this was our 10th Valentines Day together so tried to remember what we did each year. I think we were able to remember each year but it got harder to remember more recent years because we didn’t do anything as “memorable”. For the first 6 or so years we went on long-weekend trips so those were a bit easier to remember.
On Sunday we ventured outside long enough to go to church but the wind was pretty scary. I spent the rest of the day inside listening to the wind from the safety of the couch. After I did my PT exercises I decided to attempt “Bird of Paradise” pose since Salt had tagged me in the #taketheleap challenge the day before. I also worked on crow for a few minutes and headstand against a wall. Then I got dizzy and gave up and finally took a shower at 3pm.
Clearly this was not a very exciting weekend if I’m telling you about when I took a shower. But weekends like this leave me refreshed and prepared for the week ahead. Since I will have a little more flexibility in the mornings on Monday and Tuesday this week I’m planning to do some different workouts through ClassPass (affiliate link).
What did you do this weekend?
How was your Valentines Day?
Do crowded grocery stores stress you out or do you just go-with-the-flow?
I’m linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for Weekend Snapshots!
Jessie says
I absolutely despise packed grocery stores. I will alway go first thing in the morning when they open to get my shopping done. I will never understand how some people can go during rush hour if they don’t have too. Long lines just suck!
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
That is usually what I do too! Not sure what I was thinking going in the late morning on a Saturday!
Sue says
Lisa, as soon as I saw your tub, I thought, she is going to love soaking in that beautiful tub after a long run! So nice! I’ve had enough of this winter, thank you. I hate being cold. Valentines Day Weekend was spent with all my little loves. I am so glad we are down here! Food shopping is one of my least favorite things, so the crowds add to the stress for sure.
[email protected] says
Glad you got to spend Valentines day with everyone! I can’t wait for spring…just a few more weeks to go now (hopefully!)
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
I have been trying to ignore the snow, wind and frigid temps. It’s currently 4 degrees without the wind chill. Uh huh….I went food shopping yesterday and Shop Rite was empty! Everyone stocked up on Saturday for the blizzard thinking we wouldn’t be able to get out yesterday but the roads were totally fine. I lucked out.
[email protected] says
I think the highest it got here today was like 15 without the windchill. I feel like after being outside I can never warm up! Im trying to ignore it but it seems to be what everyone is talking about this week!
Sam @ The Running Graduate says
It looks like you had a very relaxing weekend. It’s so exciting that you’re getting to see your house. I’m very excited for you guys to move in 🙂 I despise busy grocery stores! I try to go at odd times to avoid everyone so I can shop in peace.
I had a wonderful Valentine’s Day in Vermont! It was nice to get out of Plattsburgh for the first time in a few weeks.
[email protected] says
I try to go grocery shopping first thing in the morning…like by 9am. It seems to be pretty empty at that time. Glad that you had a nice Valentines Day!
Tina Muir says
Hhaahah i love how you said about the weather and then said 95% of us agreed, very very true. I wish I could say that it was over now, but we are being hit hard right now….as much as I hate it, I think today is definitely a treadmill run 🙁 Boooooo! I went to the store early yesterday as i knew it would be manic later in the day, so I dodged it. Veeerrry exciting for you with the new house though!
[email protected] says
We are supposed to get a storm tonight and I’m not looking forward to it! Glad you avoided the grocery store madness! I’m glad that I got my grocery shopping done over the weekend so I don’t have to worry about it today- I’m sure that the stores are once again crazy!
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I want more and more updates on the house! So exciting and I love that type of stuff. I love Birds Of Paradise pose. It was one of those poses that the first time I saw it, I was like, that is impossible, but then I did it the first time and was like, huh, this yoga stuff really works! Congrats on 10 years, too–that is a fabulous milestone.
[email protected] says
We just found out that we will get to do our final walk through on March 16th! So over the next few weeks everything else will be coming together!
This was definitely a pose that looked harder than it was when I first tried it. My balance is pretty good but I’m not super flexible- and I actually noticed how tight my shoulders are when trying to do this pose!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
Crowded grocery stores always get me going – especially when everyone else is acting like it is a walk in the park. I hate just standing. I always want to be doing something so waiting in line always gets me ha. Looks like you had a great Valentine’s day, besides the line. Happy 10th! And love the bathroom – can’t wait to see more!
[email protected] says
I hate just standing around! Rob and I looked at each other and just said- lets go find what we need and we will meet up front in 5 minutes. Then I debated getting Starbucks next door while he waited in line but I couldn’t get out of the store because it was so crowded! Glad its over and I will know to never go back at that time again!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
I totallfy agree with you on the weather. We had snow and awful winds as well this weekend and the wind chill never got above zero. My husband and I celebrated our fifth Valentine’s together with a meal at home and only ventured out for church yesterday. We’re going to Seattle next weekend and I cannot wait to be in warm weather!
Congrats to you and your husband on ten Valentine’s Days together!
[email protected] says
That’s great that you have a warm weekend to look forward to! That was how i felt when I got to go to Arkansas but it was too short of a trip! I mean I don’t usually mind winter but this is just getting to be a little ridiculous. I never remember having so many days with wind chills below freezing until recently!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
Very exciting to see your house come together! I agree about the weather, it’s just horrible! I have no choice but to hit the gym now, it’s been below zero for two days in the morning although now the 12 degrees for tomorrow is looking pretty good! Also I think your yoga pose looks awesome!
[email protected] says
We are supposed to get 5-8 inches of snow tonight plus another cold front so I’m sure that will mean no outdoor running the rest of the week! It must be really bad if you are on the treadmill!
misszippy says
I hate the grocery stores around here when snow is impending! I am already planning to do my shopping tomorrow morning when everyone else is inside and afraid to venture out. Peace and quiet at the store! : )
Your Valentine’s Day sounds lovely…nice and relaxing.
[email protected] says
That’s a good plan-I’m sure no one will be in the stores tomorrow morning!
Emily @My Healthyish Life says
I hate crowded grocery stores! I always order my deli meat online because I can’t stand waiting in line haha. You’re bird of paradise looks good! I still can’t get my leg that straight.
[email protected] says
I used to get turkey at the grocery store every week and it was the worst part of my grocery store experience! It takes so long and I always feel like there are so many other things I could be getting instead of just standing around.
AJ @ NutriFitMama says
Crowded grocery store stress me out BUT I handle it pretty well I guess. Inside I am secretly freaking out though! I did the Hot Chocolate 15k, went to my son’s basketball game, and went out to eat with the family on Valentine’s Day. It was a LONG day 😉
[email protected] says
That sounds like a really fun day! I have never run a 15k but I think it would be a great distance!
I wonder if everyone else at Whole Foods was secretly freaking out but just appeared to be handling it well? I know that we were pretty obvious about being stressed out!
Lesley says
Love that tub! I think every tub like that needs a ledge for a wine glass.
[email protected] says
Thanks! I agree…and we didn’t get a choice about the tub so I was so exited to see that this was the layout we would have!
Amy says
I made the mistake of going to the grocery store the night before the “snow storm that wasn’t” in January. It was terrifying!!! I am glad I get to enjoy the day off on this freezing day!
[email protected] says
I’m sure that was a terrible experience!
I hope you’re having a great day off today!
Chelsea @ runner's table says
I think lazy is the way to go for Valentine’s day; it’s so much more relaxing. I have such a love-hate relationship with whole foods. They’ve got great stuff, but it takes forever to get in and out (and my goal is always to minimize my time grocery shopping).
I’m jealous of your tub! When do you move into your house?
[email protected] says
I agree about Whole Foods…I’ve gone a few times at like 4:30 on a weekday and its been great…but weekends are usually a disaster!
Our house should be done mid-March so hoping to move in early April!
Nicole@thegirlwhoraneverywhere says
Crowded grocery stores definitely leave me stressed out…I can’t deal with the bumper shopping cart stuff, it drives me NUTS! Sometimes I’ll wait to go until the snow is JUST starting to hit a little harder…this means most people are already inside!
That bathtub looks amazing! I love it’s shape-I would love a big tub like that! Going every couple of weeks to see it must feel really great. That way more stuff is done! 🙂
Nicole@thegirlwhoraneverywhere says
ps…32 more days until spring!
[email protected] says
Ok that doesn’t sound so bad!!
[email protected] says
I think that now there will be stuff to see more often since they are getting to the fun stuff! I am so excited for a nice tub because the ones in our apartment are kind of old and gross. And a ledge for a wine glass makes it that much better:)
Jennifer says
That tub looks great!! I am not looking forward to a grocery store visit when I return home this afternoon. Glad you are enjoying ClassPass.
Lisa @ Running Out Of Wine says
Good luck at the grocery store! Hopefully everyone stocked up over the weekend and it won’t be too bad.
Suzy says
Loving that you got to run outside. I just hope your weather clears up fast and you guys can finally enjoy some Spring temps!
[email protected] says
Thanks! I hope so too…but more snow is on the way tonight!
[email protected] says
That does sound like the perfect valentine’s day. I would have loved to do that but unfortunately I had to work this wkend. I am so jealous of your bathtub. When I become a homeowner that kind of tub is definitely a must!
[email protected] says
Sorry you had to work! Hopefully you have a day off this week to relax.
A nice tub is so great to have!
Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
That bath in your new house looks amazing. I’m very jealous right now! Glad you had a nice weekend 🙂
[email protected] says
Thanks! I’m pretty excited for it!
Jessie @ Just Jessie says
Crowded grocery stores totally stress me out. I was in Milwaukee over the weekend (which is the only area that has a Trader Joes but it’s two-hours from me), but it was soooo busy that I literally just bought everything I knew I liked and left ASAP. I prefer to be able to browse, but oh well – I guess I saved money that way?
[email protected] says
I definitely prefer browsing too but when stores are crazy I need to just get in and out!
Beth @ RUNNING around my kitchen says
You will love that tub! I had a big tub with jets for the first time in our old house and now I would have a hard time imagining not having one 🙂 We had beautiful weather up till Sat, then over a 30 degree temperature drop for Sunday and now a snow day today! I was going to go to the grocery store yesterday, but figured it would be nuts and we weren’t going to get so much snow that I wouldn’t be able to go today, so I held off 🙂
[email protected] says
That weather sounds really crazy! I’m glad I got to enjoy some warmer weather when I was there!
Kirtley @ The Gist of Fit says
Gosh wind is no fun at all!!
The weather has been scary good–so warm!! I think this summer will kill us with a drought. Oh well, it’s fun now! Haha 🙂
Crowded grocery stores–stressful but super fun if someone saves your spot in line!
[email protected] says
Enjoy your nice weather and just think of the rest of us who are freezing every day lately:)
Hilary says
Congrats on the house! We had a mellow V day too – best Valentine’s I’ve ever had. Nice job surviving Whoe Foods too! I love Whole Foods in theory, but every time I go I’m either in shock from the lines or from the price…
[email protected] says
Thanks! Good point about Whole Foods…it sounds like a great place but really it can be scary once you’re inside!
Salt says
Well after that long run, I hid inside for the rest of the weekend of obvious reasons. Our Valentines was a very nice stay at home kind of evening with wine and movies. I think your Bird of Paradise looks great! Thank you for yoga-ing with me!
Congratulations on the new house! Um I have total bathtub envy. A soak with Epsom salt and wine is the best idea ever.
[email protected] says
Your Valentines day sounds perfect…who would have wanted to go outside in that madness on Saturday night?!
Hailey says
I think it’s nice that your guys Valentine’s Day was so relaxed! That’s how mine have been for the past few years, so I’m hoping I’ll find someone who doesn’t mind a pj night every once in a while haha. I definitely need that recharge sometimes to get my week started feeling fresh and relaxed.
I’m jealous of that bath tub you’re going to get to enjoy, I love epsom baths!
[email protected] says
I think its so much better to be comfortable on Valentines Day! Especially since its in February and (at least here) its so cold! I had no desire to get dressed and go out anywhere in 0 degrees and 40mph winds!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Spring is coming! Soon I hope for your sake. Whole Foods makes me crazy when the lines are like that…does the organic food balance out the stress? Lol.
[email protected] says
I hope that spring comes soon too!! Not sure about the organic food theory, but I don’t think I can afford to shop there often enough to see for myself:)
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Crowded grocery stores make me want to kill myself. 🙂
We had white out conditions on Saturday night! Luckily we were safe at home but there were snow squalls and raging winds. We looked out our bay window to WHITE. So crazy/cool!
[email protected] says
Wow that sounds really crazy! Kind of fun to watch something like that from the inside of a warm house:)
Carmy says
The first pic. YES. LOL! WHY does the snowstorm have to hit during the weekend! ):< I'm home during the weekend anyways haha
[email protected] says
I know! I still haven’t had a snow day this year because anything significant has been on the weekends.
Natalie says
Crowded grocery stores = no fun and I just want to run the other way!
Your tub!! So exciting about your new house.
Your Valentine’s Day sounds perfect 🙂
Have a great day!
[email protected] says
Thanks!
I usually don’t mind grocery shopping, but when stores crowded its a whole different story! So annoying!
Marcia says
Our weather was horrific as well. We did the same as you: hit the store, dragged home some food and laid low in front of a roaring fire. My patience is wearing thin with this weather so late in the season. I suspect I could get nowhere near where you are with that Bird of Paradise so own it, sister!
[email protected] says
I keep feeling like we should start to move towards spring by now, but each week the weather seems to get worse! It has to warm up at some point, right?!?!
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
Bird of Paradise pose is no joke! I just posted a pic of me practicing the pose last week. Working on getting my leg straighter and higher!
Haha, laughing at your talk about the weather… I was just saying earlier today that my family, who all live in the northeast, all dislike me and my pictures of the beautiful San Diego weather during this time of the year! Everyone just starts to be over winter by February… hang in there 🙂
[email protected] says
I had to try so many times to get a decent picture in that pose! It takes a while to get into it!
I think I excepted the weather to start improving by now, but instead its getting worse! Hopefully spring will be here in a few weeks:)
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Great job on the bird of paradise! At least you can straighten your leg! My hamstrings are so tight there is no way that is happening for me! We didn’t do anything for Valentine’s day. We exchanged cards but that’s about it! We decided to venture down to Williamsburg this weekend to take the boys to Great Wolf Lodge and escape the cold! The kiddos had a blast! Hope you have a great week!
[email protected] says
Sounds like fun! Smart move escaping the cold:)
I was really only able to hold my leg that straight for about 2 seconds while the picture was taken- my legs are pretty tight as well!
Kristina says
Oooh your tub looks so nice! Are you already picturing yourself soaking in it after a nice hard workout?! I would be imaging a nice warm bath, but in reality I bet some nice cold baths will be taken in there for recovery purposes 😉
[email protected] says
I have a feeling both hot and cold baths will be happening- although the warm ones will be much more relaxing:)
Kim says
OH, I’m one of those people who will drive away if the parking lot is full – even if it means a day with no milk for the boys!! (they are teenagers and can find an alternative now!)
I can’t imagine doing that yoga pose – Bird of Paradise? I think you are doing a great job! (I suck at all things yoga – except maybe child’s pos!!)
Fun that y’all are building a house! I bet it is exciting to watch the progress.
[email protected] says
We really should have turned around when we saw how full the parking lot was! I think we could have found somewhere else to get steaks:)
Yoga is always a work in progress for me! It took quite a few trials to get into the pose looking like this!
Sara @ lifebetweenthemiles says
I am with you on this weather, SO over it! Your tub looks amazing! Both Ashton and I spend a ton of time in our Jacuzzi tub, me with Epsom, him trying to swim and blow bubbles! Your weekend sounded great, I love lower key weekends where you feel refreshed (minus the grocery craziness!)
[email protected] says
I also prefer lower key weekends especially after a weekend away! The tub will definitely be nice to have…I hope I use it as much as I plan to!
Charissa says
I absolutely hate going to crowded grocery stores – I don’t know how you managed. I’ve accidentally gone grocery shopping in the midst of pre-storm madness before and if I have a big trip planned, I scratch all previous considerations and just go for the staples instead – eggs, milk, etc – in order to do express checkout. But I am very glad that after that you had a nice, relaxing night with your husband 🙂 My boyfriend had work so we really didn’t do much of anything this year. I just made him a yummy waffle breakfast before he went to work!
[email protected] says
I think that will be the last time I make that mistake! It’s just not worth it to deal with all that craziness!
That was nice of you to make you boyfriend breakfast before work…although its too bad you couldn’t spend a little more time together.
