This week of running was a pretty great one overall, and I hit my highest mileage of the year! I got in some speed work on Monday, an easy yoga class, lots of strength training, and a tempo/long run on Saturday. Next week will definitely be cut back week I’m thinking!
Sunday: Rest, besides some headstands.
Monday: 5.14 miles: 8 x 400s, PM: 90 minutes beginning yoga class
Tuesday: 4.27 easy but hilly miles in new shoes and the Runner’s Dozen Core Workout
Wednesday: 6 miles, PM: Stability Ball Ab Workout and Hip Girdle Stability Workout
Thursday: Iron Strength Workout
Friday: Core Workout (CXWORX class on youtube) and 3.2 miles easy
Saturday: 8.13 miles negative split workout from Meredith but changed it up a bit.
Ran 3,2,1,3,2,1,2,1 with 3 being an easy pace and 1 being a hard tempo pace. I tried to make each set a little faster than the one before.
It started raining pretty hard around mile 4!
I also saw lots of deer on this run and one of them was sleeping in some grass right next to the road. I’m not sure who was more startled, me or the deer! I guess there usually aren’t many people out in the rain at 5:30am!
Total: 26.74
I can’t believe that its halfway through the year and my highest weekly mileage is only 26. This very gradual increase in mileage since my return to running in April has seemed to work well. Now that I have been running consistently for three months I’m trying to figure out what’s next- whether that’s a fall half or full I’m not quite sure. But I’m feeling the urge to start training for something!
I spent about 90% of the rest of the weekend traveling. I was in the car for 8+ hours on Saturday and then on the train Sunday night for a wedding and a high school graduation.
These kinds of weekends are so fun but I have to say I am pretty worn out from everything over the past month!
I’m joining Tara for the Weekend update link-up!
How were your workouts last week?
What is your highest weekly mileage so far this year?
Any suggestions for what I should start training for?
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
Congrats on a great week! I think you’re ready to start training for whatever feels right at this point since everything is going well. I don’t even know what my highest mileage of the year was, 40ish? Hasn’t been for a few months though.
[email protected] says
Im pretty sure in 2014 I hit 60+ miles/week in like March, so clearly this year is a bit different! But its been nice not to have had any pressure over the past few months!
Tina Muir says
Nice job lady! Those kind of fartlek workouts are tougher than we think, as it sounds so easy, but you can kill yourself in them. Great job! Traveling really takes it out of you, but its all fun stuff right 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us, have a great week 🙂
[email protected] says
Definitely fun stuff, but then I feel like it takes me two days to recover and then before I know it Im getting ready for the next event! But I’ll take all the fun summer stuff over the winter boredom any day:)
Mary Beth Jackson says
cute pics!!! Sounds like a great training week, great mileage I would say! Traveling is always so much fun but then you need to rest! 🙂 Have a great week!
[email protected] says
Yes I definitely need some rest! We have a little break now before any more traveling so that will be nice.
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
Sounds like exactly the right balance for your week, and I love the headstands! Even as a former gymnast I can’t get comfy in those…handstands only!
[email protected] says
I have a long way to go to be able to stay in a headstand on my own. And I definitely can’t do a handstand!
meredith @ cookie ChRUNicles says
I love your twist on the workout, maybe I will do it tomorrow! Love the wedding pictures 🙂
[email protected] says
It worked out well based on how I was feeling and the route I was doing. The negative splits for 3 miles definitely make the run fly by!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
It sounds like you are ready to train for whatever you want! There are a lot of fun races over the summer too. Love the picture of you doing the headstands.
[email protected] says
I guess I just need to figure out what I want to do as far as racing goes! I think its time to pick something:)
Cheryl says
Great week–great pictures!
I am not sure what my highest mileage week would be–maybe 35ish?
[email protected] says
Thanks! I think 35 is a great amount and I hope to be there comfortably in the next month or so!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Great week of training! Nothing wrong with that mileage.

Thanks!

Workouts were still pretty lacking, but I was pleased to have been able to finish the half on Sunday. Highest milage so far this year was when I was in peak training for Boston – I believe I hit 60 which was my highest ever. I love running fall marathons – Hartford, the Hamptons, and Philly are all great : )
[email protected] says
I love the Philly marathon but since I’ve done it twice I should probably look into something different. Glad you were able to finish the half this weekend!
Lesley says
Thanks for links, I’m going to bookmark them. This past week was a big cut back week for me because my legs felt tired, and my hip felt tight yesterday. I need some new low maintenance workouts for those kinds of days.
[email protected] says
Its smart that you’re listening to your body and cutting back when you need to. Hopefully you will be feeling better this week!
Marcia says
Very nice week! There’s much to be said for low mileage. With tri as my focus for the first half of the year, my running mileage has been really low. It’s time to ramp up a bit. Ha!
[email protected] says
The lower mileage has given me so much flexibility! But I to want to work on building up my long run a bit and with that will come a bump in mileage, so I’ll just have to go about it carefully!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Great job! Those are so awesome paces you’re running! My highest mileage for the year is 45, but soon I’ll be hitting 60+ in marathon training.
[email protected] says
I am seriously surprised by the paces considering how hot its been. I haven’t run 60 miles per week since March of 2014 when I was following the Hansons plan for my spring marathon. I’m wondering how I was able to run that much- its triple what Im doing now!
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
Lisa, I am cracking up about your deer story! I see lots of them on my early morning runs and sometimes they stand there so long, looking at me, that I begin to wonder if they’re going to move out of the way before I get to them! I’m pretty sure if one got up from the grass while I was running by I would jump out of my skin – ha! Great job with your training this week; I’m so glad that you are back at it, healthy and doing so well. Hmm…what to train for?? GAH! So many options, right? I was shooting for a half in the fall and then changed my mind and decided to register for a full in December. Hope your week is off to a great start and thanks so much for linking up with the blog!
[email protected] says
I just figure if I leave them alone that they will leave me alone…we have had them in our backyard and on our neighbor’s lawn!
I’m leaning towards an early fall half, and I figure if training is going well maybe I can do a late fall full. But I guess I still have some time to decide!
Lauren says
Great week of training! I’m totally saving those core and hip workotus for later and will try to add them on easy runs days! I think I hit my highest mileage in a longggg time this week too-gotta love that training schedule. I’m startled so easy, I feel bad because I’m probably startle the animals as well!
[email protected] says
Im so used to running in the city where the most I would see was squirrels and the occasional rat (yuck!) that its so weird to be in the county and seeing deer, fox, and rabbits. It definitely keeps me on my toes and aware of my surroundings!
Suzy says
You’ve been really smart with the increase in mileage. I’m glad you were able to get such a solid week in! I think it’s time for a half marathon!
[email protected] says
Thanks! I agree…Im thinking Ill plan for an early fall half and see how my training goes for that. If I wanted to do a late fall full I still have a good month to decide and start training for it.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Headstands! Don’t they hurt your head?
I understand the urge to train for something! I really wish I could right now. Maybe you could train for a half first, since you are easing up your mileage and it is working, and then do a spring marathon or something?
[email protected] says
Haha, if I could actually get into a real headstand on my own then I would be able to tell you if they hurt my head, but right now I can only do them against a wall. Otherwise I just kick my legs up but they don’t stay off the ground for very long.
I am thinking a half is probably the way to go. My only hesitation is that i prefer fall marathons to spring ones! I guess I still have some time to decide.
Pam says
Back in January I had a couple of 40 mile weeks before injury struck. I ran 10.5 last week and was excited about it! lol I’ll get back there…someday. 🙂
[email protected] says
You will definitely get back there! Try to enjoy some of the flexibility that goes along with lower mileage…thats what I try to remind myself:)
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
We’ve been doing a lot lately too. It’s a blast but I’m exhausted! Way to go on the mileage!
[email protected] says
Thanks! I think this time of year can just be so busy in general. Even though its fun it can definitely get tiring after awhile!
Nona @ RunningHigh says
I’m coming back from an injury as well, and it’s hard to believe I’m technically in training for my half in September and I only ran 14 miles last week! It’s hard to come back mentally for sure. What a great week for you though! I’m impressed by all your core work! I really need to get on top of that myself.
[email protected] says
Im sure you will build up to where you need to be! I’ve found that strength training and core work has been a huge help in getting and staying healthy.
Charissa says
Great job with the mileage! I’m really happy to see that you’re consistently running again with no pain and able to start training for something again soon! You beasted that 8-miler and I believe you’re at a solid place to train for a half marathon 🙂
[email protected] says
Thanks! I was so excited to realize that I have been back to running consistently for 3 months. Now I just need to pick a race:)
Annette @ Sweating Through Life says
I hear you about busy weeks!! I feel like all of my weekends coming up and the past few have been packed full! It’s been hard to use my time wisely with running, so my peak mileage lately has been under 20:( I will get back up there soon though…I need to get more focused for my training. Looks like you had a fun weekend!!!!
[email protected] says
I have definitely found that its hard to get in a longer run when I’m traveling or busy every weekend. Hopefully as things quiet down a bit you will be able to increase you mileage to where you want it to be!
Natalie says
Yay!! You are back! Way to have patience and take it slowly. I think any fall marathon that you choose, you’ll do awesome. Maybe a November race to give you plenty of time to ease into training?
Good for you on those early morning runs! Ha, ha – you know my highest mileage of the year so far… zero! But it’ll be so fun in the fall to look back on it 🙂
Hope your crazy weekends are done for a while, although looks like so much fun!
[email protected] says
Thanks!! Its a good feeling and I can’t wait for you to be back to building mileage as well! If I do a full this year it will definitely be late fall…my husband is already signed up for the Tulsa marathon at the end of November so that will probably be the one I do as well, since I’ll be traveling there with him anyway!
MCM Mama Runs says
That 3,2,1 run is pretty impressive! Great job!
I think my highest week was somewhere in the 50s. This past week was 37 miles, but it was the first week of marathon training, so it’s pretty much all up from here.
[email protected] says
37 is a solid number for week 1 of marathon training! I know I usually feel like the first few weeks of training are such low mileage but before i know it things really pick up!
Kristina says
Congrats on reaching your highest mileage week to date for 2015. I know it must seem crazy that 26 is your peak so far, but now that you’re feeling better I’m sure it’s just the beginning of a strong summer!
[email protected] says
Thanks! Im glad to have been able to build up gradually and run consistently rather than bump it up too fast and have to take more time off. Hopefully this summer will be a strong and healthy one for the both of us!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Yey! So happy you are getting your runs in!! I’ve had terrible workout weeks, but hoping to change that next week as marathon training is about to start!
James @ HalfMarathonJames says
That’s a really interesting way of training for the Saturday run. I might try it myself over the next few weeks. As for weekly mileage, I think I’ve got somewhere similar to you with about 25 miles. Although 5.30 am runs should count for double mileage!
[email protected] says
I have to say that I love my 5:30 am runs…after heading out at 9am today I remembered why its especially important to get out early in the summer! It was so much hotter with the sun out!
The Saturday run with the negative split workout was a good one…you should definitely try it some time; it makes the miles fly by!
