Welcoming June Over Coffee

How are we 4 days into June already! May really flew by, although it was a challenging month. Of course now as the weather improves time starts to go by faster. I remember thinking that January would never end! Anyway, here we are welcoming June over coffee. Let’s chat.

How are we 4 days into June already! May really flew by, although it was a challenging month. Of course now as the weather improves time starts to go by faster. I remember thinking that January would never end! Anyway, here we are welcoming June over coffee.

If we were welcoming June over coffee,

I’d share that my USPS package finally came on the day my Runfessions post went live! It was worth the wait because I really like the shorts I got. I wore the 2-in-1 chaser shorts the next day on my rainy 11 miler and they held up great!

If we were enjoying a coffee,

I’d tell you about Memorial Day weekend. It was so cold and rainy on Saturday and Sunday. We got desperate on Sunday morning and went to the playground anyway. I couldn’t believe how many other families had the same idea! Later that day the rain stopped and we went out back for a bit. Within 10 minutes it started down pouring again. it was a good night for ordering a pizza and staying inside.

Wearing a winter coat at the end of May

Luckily on Monday the sun came out. We went for a run at the park and played on the playground in the morning. Later that day we went to my parents’ house. It was our first time being all together since the 4 of us (adults) are all fully vaccinated!

If we were welcoming June over coffee,

I’d share that I put in for some time off this summer. We don’t have plans for travel, but we hope to do some day trips, or just go to our community pool. There are a few days I might still send Grayson to daycare so I can get things done around the house. I’ve been realizing how desperatly I need a break!

If we were chatting over coffee,

I’d talk to you about iced coffee! I got this fun iced coffee glass on Etsy which was created by my Brooks’ Run Happy Teammate Stacy. It’s so nice to be able to have a glass of decaf iced coffee in the afternoon when I’m working from home.

runs on iced coffee

If we were having coffee,

I’d also tell you that I bought my first coffee out since before the pandemic last week. I had an in-person meeting last Friday at a different location than my office, so on my drive to my office around noon I picked up lunch and a decaf latte. Honestly, it just feels so overpriced to buy drinks like that and I can’t believe how much money I used to spend on Starbucks. I’m going to try really hard not to get back into the habit of doing it as much as I used to.

Thanks for welcoming June over coffee with me!

It’s great that it’s finally so nice we can all be outside! I’m taking a few weeks off this summer but we will just go to Wisconsin. I have so much PTO accrued from last year and I have to use it. Looking forward to our big warm up this weekend!

    Grayson is getting so big!

I have alot of vacation days from last year too. That’s really nice that you can go to Wisconsin this summer!

Our weather was atrocious over Memorial Day weekend. The sun didn’t really come out until we were in the car on our way back home!

Since I didn’t work outside the house & don’t drink coffee, I never stopped for coffee. Or tea. Unless I was getting together with friends. I do think I probably spent less on clothes, which isn’t to say I didn’t buy any, but I wasn’t shopping in any stores so no impulse buys.

You totally deserve a break! Taking care of a toddler is hard enough without everything that went down this last year+ . I hope you have a fabulous staycation & great day trips!

I think the only clothes I bought over the last year was leggins and sweatshirts since that has basically been my wardrobe. Now that I’m wearing real clothes again some days i feel like I have nothing to wear!

I also had my first coffee out and a bunch of meals in Chicago. It was so nice to feel so normal doing everyday things again. I will never take those for granted again! Looks like we are right back into summer weather this weekend. I would think it would be good for Grayson to go hang w his peeps over the summer too. You deserve some me time after this past year!

I’m not sure when I’ll go out for a meal again, but maybe sometime this summer! We probably need to start teaching Grayson how to go out in public. At this point he has no idea what a restaurant even is!

I wish I could say I saved money on Starbucks during the pandemic, but our Starbucks was open the entire time (because it’s a drive-through.). I probably spent even more money there, because it was a bright spot in an otherwise depressing year.
I love that glass! I’m going to check Etsy- I hope they have one for iced tea as well.
So it sounds like you’re planning a staycation- it sounds really fun. Everyone needs some time off!

Our Starbucks was open but since i wasn’t really going anywhere I never had the excuse to go. It was always so easy to make coffee at home!

Thankfully, there’s no local Starbucks in my town LOL I did save money on my Starbucks chai latte’s because we traveled much less, so there was very little temptation or opportunity to snag a “pricey” chai (I agree…the prices are crazy, but I don’t mind indulging once in awhile as a treat). While our Memorial Day weekend weather was colder than usual, at least it was pretty dry.

I hope to just get Starbucks as a treat from now on. It can be a very expensive habit!

I can’t remember the last time I bought a coffee – that’s probably been one of many savings thanks to the pandemic lockdown. It will be interesting to see which habits we all return to.

Great to hear that you have some days off coming up – so important to have those breaks!

That Etsy glass is so cute 🙂

I could definitely see myself getting right back into the same habits with buying coffee so I’m going to really try to just buy it occasionally, as a treat!

Hah! The one upside of going back to the office is having easier access to Starbucks. If I have to pay for parking again I might as well treat myself to coffee too. *I know that doesn’t make any sense.

I was in such a glum mood last weekend. I’m so glad the sun came out on Monday!

Haha when I first went back I thought about treating myself to Starbucks but then I realized if I started that soon there would be no stopping me. I have a drive through Starbucks right around the corner from my office- its way too convenient!

OMG! We saved sooooo much money during the pandemic. I can’t even tell you LOL!

I love your iced coffee cup! That’s such a cool design!

Sorry Memorial Day was a wash. It was hot here, and I ended up turning in early.

I know I saved on Starbucks, gas, and meals out! I think I only filled up my gas tank once in 2020.

A break definitely sounds nice — I hope you get some rest/down-time on your days off!

I think I definitely saved money this past year by not going out to eat!

Thank you! Same here- we just got take out but even did that less than before.

We’d wanted to go to Banff this summer, alas Canada is not yet an option for foreigners so that one will have to wait. That’s a very cute iced coffee glass! I’ve been back to Starbucks a couple of times but nowhere near as much as I used to. It does sound shocking when they say the price of the coffee!

Its too bad you can’t go to Canada yet- hopefully next year!

I love that iced coffee glass. I am going to check it out! I have bought coffee since going back to work but I still saved a lot of money last year. I didn’t eat out as much and I didn’t buy gas since I didn’t drive as much either. Glad you will be taking time off. You work hard and deserve time off.

I also saved alot on gas this year. Even know that I’m back in the offie I don’t go in every day and I don’t drive around to meetings. Its nice to not have to fill up as often!

So nice that you were able to get together with family. I can’t wait to visit mine again.

We definitely saved some money on eating out during the pandemic, but then also spent more on groceries. I still think we came out on top 😉

I hope you get to see your family soon! I think we spent more on groceries too- and factoring into that was I think some of our groceries got more expensive.

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

#run #runner #marathontraining #richmondmarathon
15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
