I feel like I have only been doing Thinking Out Loud posts like once a month lately and then I end up with so much stuff to say. Or I will take notes about what I want to talk about when I finally do a TOL post but then weeks go by and it is no longer relevant. Anyway, let’s see what I have been thinking about lately! Make sure to check out my 45 minute fartlek workout that I am sharing in this post too.
Baltimore 10 Miler
As I was getting ready to run the Baltimore 10 miler last weekend I was looking back at my previous race times/course stats and of course 2014’s race recap. The recap gave me so much helpful info! However, I also ran in 2012 and 2013, and I have 1 picture from 2012 but no evidence of 2013! I don’t remember anything about it and we figured out Rob didn’t run it by checking Athlinks, and I know I didn’t have a great race because of my time, but that’s all I remember! I wish I had a blog back then or some sort of documentation to jog my memory.
I felt like I was dehydrated for a day and a half after Saturday’s race. Did I mention it was humid? Yea. I drank alot of water that day but I still constantly had this feeling in my throat like I was still thirsty, and it lasted all day Sunday too.
Rest Days
Sunday was my rest day and I was more tired than on the days when I run. Does that happen to anyone else? I feel like when I’m in a good running groove I dread my rest days because I know I will feel more tired. Luckily it was a Sunday and I was able to lay around and not too a whole lot!

I’m not a big TV watcher (ok I don’t watch TV on my own at all, but Rob will turn it on and sometimes I will pay attention-usually not) but a few weeks ago he started watching the Office on Netflix. It’s so addicting to be able to binge watch shows like that without commercials! I know people have been doing this for years, but it’s just never been my thing. Other than Fuller House, which I watched all of season 1 in like 2 days.
So in my weekly recap I mentioned I didn’t know if I would do a workout this week because I just ran a race and have another in less than 2 weeks. So on Tuesday I did a fartlek run. The plan was to do a 10 minute warm up, and then 6 x 3 minutes hard with 1 minute recoveries. My route wasn’t flat so I got frustrated with my times. I ended up changing it a bit and did the following workout:
45 Minute Fartlek Workout
I felt like it was a good effort to get my legs moving faster without doing anything too strenuous between races.
Humid Race
By the way, the weekend of a hot and humid race is NOT a good time to run out of coconut oil! My hair was in a huge knot after the race and it took forever to get it out!
This week I started doing a 10 day trial of Les Mills On Demand. I loved taking Body Pump and CXWORX at my gym when I had my membership, so I am excited to see what this is like. I did a 30 minute Body Pump class on Wednesday and I have a feeling I will be sore from that! Maybe I will even do some BodyFlow classes to get back in the yoga habit!
Be sure to go see what Amanda and everyone else is thinking about today!
Can you remember races if you don’t blog about them?
Are you a Netflix binge-watcher?
Do you enjoy running a fartlek workout?
i am definitely more tired on rest days! funny how that happens! and, I am so annoyed that I didn’t have my blog for my first ever half marathon (at Hershey park) that I think I will be writing up the recap, 4 years later! I still remember enough to give me a nice race recap lol. sometimes I get super thirsty too after a hot run, watermelon tends to be the only thing that gets rid of the dry throat feeling for me
I am impressed that you are considering writing your recap so many years after your first half! But I guess certain races can really stand out and stay in our memories. I guess I remember alot from my first half too, and that was back in 2007!
Some races are hard to forget! I never remember routes, however, no matter how many times I run a race.
Yes, I am often more tired on rest days too!
Luckily my hair doesn’t knot that much. Just little ones that I usually end up pulling out. But I don’t brush it at all — I comb it on those rare occasions I actually wash it!
I wish my hair didnt knot! Its so much worse in the summer and can take forever to get them out.
I”ve never taken a Les Mills classes! But I hear that I am missing out, lol. I am pretty good about remembering my races. Even the weird and obscure ones. I’ve got a memory for certain things, and apparently one of those things is races.
I think the Les Mills classes are a great way to change things up! And sometimes I just need to follow a workout video with good music rather than doing my own thing.
Ryan and I binge watch Netflix all the time, whether it’s when we’re working on business things at night or relaxing on the weekends. Supernatural and Scrubs are our go-tos, probably because there’s so many seasons.
Rest days make me tired! Lately I’ve taken them mid-week and focus on getting work done, which helps a bit.
I also think I feel better when rest days fall during the week, maybe because Im still sticking with my normal routine and staying somewhat active.
I looooooove me some Netflix! I’m all about Bloodline, Narcos, and House of Cards. If you don’t watch any of those you need to ASAP!
I am SOO picky about TV shows and movies, I don’t think I would be able to get into any of those shows! Rob has probably watched some of those in front of me and I havent even noticed:)
Hmmm… Races start to just blend into one another unless I journal or write about them. Oh, and do you use coconut oil for frizzy hair? Does it work well? How much do you use?
I have just started using coconut oil before I run to keep it from getting tangled. I put my hair into a ponytail, rub about a teaspoon to a tablespoon of oil in my hands to make it int more of a liquid form, and then run it through my hair. Then I have been braiding my hair. I also notice my hair feels softer later in the day after I shower!
You know me, I am all about Lesmills classes since I teach body pump and Rpm. They are a great workout! I like CX too! I have Netflix but I never get sucked into a series and binge watch.
Its so awesome that you get to teach those classes! Maybe one day I will go through the training.
I feel like I”m always a lot more tired on days where I’m not very active… probably because that means I’m on the computer a lot more and that takes a lot out of me. That and I miss that extra O2 pumping through my system!
Thats true- I think rest days mean more down time and probably more screen time. Even going for a walk helps me to feel better!
I’m not a huge binge watcher except Fuller House only took a week (but it was short episodes). Other shows I will watch “through” like I did Mad Men before I watched on the air in the 5th season, BUT it would be 1-2 episodes per day. I can’t sit still longer even if I had the time!
I LOVED watching fuller house and can’t wait for season 2 to come out!
You and I have quite different personalities but I do find that we are actually more similar than we think. Like, the more I get to know you, the more parallel I feel to a lot of like say, your quirks. Or habits, or something. Anyway, I don’t watch TV either, unless Andrew is watching it and I plop down beside him to cuddle. HOWEVER, we did get hooked on Lie to Me on Netflix, and now that we’re all done watching it, we need something new. It took us probably a year to get through three seasons so you can tell that we don’t watch TV all that much. I personally love LOVE the Office while Andrew isn’t that into it. He loves Seinfeld.
Haha yes I would agree that we are different but very similar in some ways too! There are so many ways I feel like I an relate to things you say. I think I am drawn to shows like the Office because they are easy to watch. I don’t feel like I have the energy or care enough to watch anything that takes too much thought or is too serious- also I really don’t like watching violent shows! Even just loud noises on the TV make me jumpy.
That’s so funny about the B10! That’s the main reason I started to blog – so I had a good record of my races. It must have not been a good one if you forgot about it 😛 When my hair gets like that after a run I know it’s too long! Does coconut oil really help get a knot like that out?
You bring up a good point that I am probably due for a haircut! I just hate spending money on that:)
There are a couple of obscure races I forget about that were wayyyy before my blogging days. Hey Paul watched The Office on Netflix ALL THE TIME. It’s his go to “homey” show to zone out or get cheered up.
Haha the Office is so easy to watch and perfect for putting you in a better mood!
I totally feel you on the rest day fatigue! Whenever I take a rest day it’s like my body goes “okay well I have no reason for energy” and I’m pretty much in zombie mode 😛
We are serious netflix bingers… so much so that we probably need netflix rehab. Mind you, we only watch tv of a night after dinner and that’s it – but still! 😛
An hour a day isn’t bad at all! I know some people watch it non stop all weekend!
I looooove binging on Netflix! I watched all of the Office when my first son was a baby and I couldn’t tell you how many times I woke him up laughing!
Haha The Office is such a funny show! I never really laugh at TV shows but that one definitely has me laughing out loud sometimes!
When I’m in the mood for a show I’ll definitely look for one I can binge on. The last show I did that with those was the Making a Murderer documentary so it’s been a while.
I’ve tried to watch the office but I just can’t get into it – which is annoying because I love Mindy Kaling and I want to like everything she does!
I am surprised you can’t get into The Office! I started watching it when it first came out and love watching the reruns!
I LOVE the office. I wish I could be BFF’s with Michael Scott in real life. I am dying to try a Body Pump class – I’ve tried so many different classes but not Body Pump!
I totally wish my office was like the one on the show- how entertaining would that be!!
I tend to remember most of my races even the ones I didn’t blog about but I do like having the written account to look back on sometimes. And Netflix is my way to unwind!! Love binge-watching shows. Right now I’m working my way through all the seasons of ‘That 70’s Show’ 😀
Race recaps are so helpful to look back on! I always read them when I do a repeat race, or even the same distance, and analyze everything about my last experience!
I remember races, but not certain points during the race. I used to laugh at people who couldn’t remember things on the course, and I get it now. I’ve done it, and I call it race brain.
Its tough to remember everything about a race, especially when you race somewhat regularly!
Fuller House was amazing! I can’t wait for season two of that and the netflix season of Gilmore girls to come out!!
I can’t wait for season two of Fuller House either! I think they are filming it now!
What’s kind of scary to me is that I’ve been running for so long that there are a LOT of races I don’t remember. And because back then there wasn’t social media, I have no record of most of them. No pictures–nada.
I feel like my post today is a Thinking Out Loud post!
I love looking back at old race recaps! I’m a Netflix binge-r, but also run into the problem of scrolling through Netflix and not being able to decide what to watch!
I can’t even remember what I did last week unless I blog about it – or have a FitSnap photo record of it. Once my run is done, it’s done. 😉 For races, I’ve saved almost all of my bibs and written my times down on the back. Now those numbers mean nothing to me. It would have been better if I wrote a few sentences about the race, but I guess that’s on my blog now.
