Closing In On The Finish Line

Time is flying by and all of a sudden I’m closing in on the finish line of this pregnancy. As I said last week things have been super busy lately and they don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Workouts are still happening to some extent. The hardest part about this week was my lack of sleep. I’d wake up in the middle of the night or super early in the morning and not be able to fall back to sleep. A few nights I was up at 2 am and then up for the whole day.

It only took 37 weeks but suddenly running is really hard. My bladder can’t handle running for more than about 30 minutes. My body doesn’t seem to be able to handle much more than that either. Considering I get out of breath rolling over in bed, I’m happy to be running at all at this point.

On Saturday I opted for the treadmill because it was 20 degrees out and I wanted to be able to take as long as I needed while having a bathroom nearby. Honestly, I also just didn’t feel like finding clothes for that weather that would fit. I was happy with my choice as I was able to cover 4 miles, stopped to walk about once a mile, and took a bathroom break about halfway through.

I have one week left of this phase of my strength training plan so I’m hoping to get that done next week. We’ll see what happens. Before starting a workout it sounds easier to strength train than run, but once I’m actually doing the workout it feels hard. I’ve been modifying quite a bit.

wednesday run

Here’s a quick rundown of this week’s workouts:

Monday: 3 miles
Tuesday: Strength training and 10 minutes spin bike
Wednesday: 3 miles
Thursday: Rest day
Friday: 20 minutes spin bike and strength training
Saturday: 4 miles
Sunday: 2 miles

sunday run

This weekend was another productive one. I am just about done with Christmas shopping (all done online, of course) and I’ve wrapped whatever has been delivered so far. I never thought about how hard it would be to wrap gifts this late in pregnancy, but that should count as another workout. I also spent some time trying to get some work done. I feel like I will never caught up before it’s time for maternity leave.

As far as baby stuff we are getting close to being done. We have a few more decorations to hang in the nursery which isn’t really a priority. We’ve started to narrow down some names but it will probably end up being a last-minute decision. I still need to get all my thank you cards out from the work showers I had last week. Slowly but surely my to-do list is getting shorter.

Sounds like you’re ready to meet that little one! Kudos to you for having all your shopping done. I’m just about there but not quite.

I was a little more motivated to get it done early this year knowing how crazy the next few weeks will be!

You have to be the most organized person I know! I felt so overwhelmed at this point in my pregnancies that I was almost paralyzed! Of course, we were moving a few weeks after my first was born and there was a lot of packing to be done. I don’t know how we did it. Somehow, everything falls into place.

I couldn’t imagine getting ready to move right now! My organization is crazy these days. You should have seen the spreadsheets and notes I prepared for my team at work who will be covering for me.

As much as I really wanted to run outside during this training, it’s so hard to get outside in the cold dark. The treadmill is so much easier!

Yes, sometimes the treadmill is just a much easier option!

So great that you are almost done with holiday shopping! I know this is a super busy time for you but at least that’s one more thing to cross off your checklist.

Exactly! Now, if everything could just get delivered so I can get them all wrapped.

It’s so impressive how far into your pregnancy that you were able to remain active and log some serious mileage. I can remember how difficult sleep was. Any time you can take a nap, do it — no matter what time of day it is. LOL. Once you see the baby, I think you’ll “know” the name. I’m so excited for you! Thanks for linking.

I hope thats the case with the name! I think if we can narrow it down to 2, maybe 3, then it will be easier to pick when the time comes.

It sounds like you are getting a lot done in preparation for your little one arriving! I hope all continues to go well in these last couple weeks!

That’s awesome you’re still running and strength training! The treadmill is a nice option since you don’t need to worry about layering up at all – so jealous since it’s cold in the mornings!

So exciting how much progress you’ve made. We had a list of names we both liked narrowed down to 3, and decided we would pick the final name once we saw her!

      December 13, 2018 at 5:15 am

That’s what we are hoping to do! We have about 4-5 that we are considering right now so I definitely want to narrow it down a little more.

You are still getting a lot of stuff done, including quality workouts! I got the bulk of my shopping done last weekend…now, about the wrapping and baking….

So close now!! It’s an interesting process picking out names. We did pick our names ahead of time, down to the top two. Then one of them just made sense when we saw our babies! I still have to get some stocking stuffers, but other than that I feel like I’m pretty much ready for Christmas. I got my xmas cards sent out today, that was a major accomplishment!

Weather & darkness are the main reason I head inside. Also if I’m not sure I can finish a workout and want the backup of cross training.
Congrats on pushing through this far

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
