Brooks Luxe Pocket Bra Review: A Comparable Replacement for the 3 Pocket Bra

For many years my favorite sports bra for running has been the Brooks 3 Pocket Bra. Unfortunately, this bra is no longer available. It seems be have been discontinued and replaced with the Luxe Pocket Bra. In photos the Luxe Pocket Bra appears somewhat similar to the 3 Pocket Bra, so I had to give it a try.

Brooks Luxe Pocket Bra Review

Similar to the 3 Pocket Bra, the Luxe Pocket Bra has removable pads. Surprisingly, these have stayed in during several washes unlike most sports bras. The pads of my 3 Pocket Bras fell out on the first wash and I didn’t even bother putting them back in.

Brooks Luxe Pocket Bra

There is one phone pocket in the back, which is a little bigger than the pocket on the 3 Pocket bra. I have found it easier to slide my phone in and out of this pocket. There are no longer little side pockets. While this is not a deal breaker, it was nice to have those extra pockets for times I needed them.

Pocket of Luxe Pocket Bra

The material on the Luxe Pocket Bra is nice and soft. If you have worn any other Brooks Luxe products it is similar, but a thicker material than the shirts. I think the 3 Pocket Bra was more sweat wicking. The Luxe bra is just thicker and seems to hold on to sweat more. I do wonder about running outside in this in the heat of the summer and how it would feel. On chilly mornings it feels nice to put on.

The sizing between the two bras is different. While the 3 Pocket Bra had band and cup sizing, the Luxe Pocket Bra ranges from XS to XXL. There is a sizing guide which I used to select my size by entering my own measurements. I feel that the band of the bra is a little tight. If I accidentally put it in the dryer I think it would become uncomfortably tight. However, I worry that if I size up that the upper part will feel too loose.

Brooks Luxe Pocket Bra

Both bras are advertised as offering medium support. I feel that the support is similar on both. Maybe the Luxe feels slightly more supportive, but this may be also due to a snugger fit.

Overall I felt that the Luxe Drive Bra is a decent alternative to the 3 Pocket Bra. It has a similar high coverage style and a back pocket for a phone. There are small differences that lead me to prefer the 3 Pocket Bra, and sizing may be an issue for some people.

Back of Brooks Luxe Pocket Bra

I’m glad I still have several 3 Pocket Bras that I can continue wearing as I adjust to the Luxe Bra. I’m hoping that maybe the sizing options will change with future updates so we can select sizes based on cup and band size again.

It’s always a bit frustrating when brands discontinue a tried and true favorite, but the Luxe Pocket Bra is hopefully something I will grow to love. If you have been a fan of the 3 Pocket Bra it’s worth giving the Luxe Bra a try, just know it’s not the same and you may need to try it on to figure out your sizing.

Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!

Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by back to back kid activities, so there was no time to post about it. (I ate breakfast in the car and lunch at soccer practice- it was that kind of a day.) I was kind of nervous going in to this run, especially now that I’m getting down to last few key long runs. I had 16 miles with 4 x 2 miles on the plan, which sounded manageable but also challenging. The weather was perfect and I hit all my paces. At the end I got a little confused- thinking I was at 15 miles but I was actually at 14 🙃 Got home and realized I chafed really bad. Another long run down, and another week closer to race day.

Do you ever psych yourself out before long runs?
