5 Things to Love about Fall

Back in June I shared my 5 favorite summer activities which was the Friday Five theme that week. I seriously can’t believe that it’s time to talk about fall activities and that summer is over! I was reading over that post and I feel like I wrote it yesterday. I have mixed feelings about this time of year but there are some things I love about fall, so let’s focus on the positive!

5 Things to Love About Fall

5 Things to Love about Fall

Races

This time of year is probably my favorite season for running and racing. I always prefer a fall marathon to a spring marathon, both for the training and the actual race. After months of running in the heat and humidity, it feels so good to be out running in October/November when it’s cooler. I always feel so much faster during those months! My half-marathon PR is from the Baltimore Running Festival which is in October.

Foods

I’m excited to start cooking and eating fall produce again- including spaghetti squash, butternut squash, pears and apples. You may find me baking with pumpkin once or twice too but I think all the hype about it diminishes any excitement I may have had.

Fall Drinks

I typically enjoy fall beers and am excited to try some different ones over the next few weeks. This is also a great season for red wine (but I could justify that statement pretty much any time of year). Occasionally I also like a warm hard cider. I have a recipe that my friends and I used to make when we lived together so I try to do that once a year.

Fall Clothes

While I feel a little bit sad about putting away my flip-flops, I do enjoy boot season! I prefer fall clothes to winter clothes for sure, because who wants to have to wear 5 layers? Leggings are once again acceptable and of course we can hide our compression socks under out boots and pants again! I also love sweaters and hoodies.

Fall Weather

For most of the fall it’s a great time to be outside! Unlike the summer when we are sweating just walking 5 steps, it’s actually comfortable to be outside during this time of year. I am trying to figure out a weekend to go wine tasting, which we did 2 years ago for our anniversary. It’s also great weather for taking walks and sitting outside having a drink.

The only thing I really don’t like about fall is that it is followed by winter!

Fall means sweatpants instead of running shorts all day on the fashion front for me! I love fall though, all these things, plus my birthday, make it the best season!

I’m so excited for sweatpants! And hoodies, and leggings…all the comfy clothes:)

Though I do like/love fall, I get nervous because we have no way of knowing just how long it will last before we never get to wear anything but parkas and giant boots! So fall, please participate this year, thank you!

      September 26, 2015 at 3:09 pm

That makes me nervous too. I enjoy the end of September and beginning of October because its usually still fall weather. I will never forget the year we had a bunch of snow at the end of October…that’s just not fair.

I love the idea of fall! We don’t get a fall season down here, but I really wish we did. I love scarves and boots and wish I had a reason to wear them more than 2 days out of the year!

As much as I would love to live in Florida I think I would be sad about no fall weather. Although in the winter it seems to be a little more on the chilly side!

I love running in fall, and cooking with autumnal produce as well…like you said, all I dislike is knowing that a long, very cold winter lies ahead 😉

      September 26, 2015 at 3:10 pm

It wouldn’t be so bad if winter only lasted a month- but it always feels never-ending!

I love fall for all these reasons, plus it’s when Ryan and I both have our birthdays and anniversary! The only think I don’t like is the days getting shorter – or maybe I do, because I always sleep more when there is less daylight.

I am not liking the dark mornings lately, and its only gonna get worse.

The warm days and cool nights are so great! And I love being able to layer in fall clothes.

Love fall – especially the Indian Summer when it’s still warm during the day but cool at night. And 100% can’t wait to start wearing compression socks to work. I always feel sneaky when I can pull it off 🙂

      September 26, 2015 at 3:40 pm

I also love the warm days and cool nights- and I am definitely excited to wear compressions socks ALL the time:)

I adore fall. I love the pumpkin patch and the smell of leaves, and of course the fall colors. Our weather is more summer than fall here still but the nights are cooler and that’s awesome!

      September 26, 2015 at 3:41 pm

Yes, I love all those things too! I am trying to enjoy this time of year before the winter comes:)

  9. Hilary @ Embrace the Neon says

    September 25, 2015 at 10:03 am

All these reasons! Sadly it doesn’t really cool down much where I live until November (it’ll be in the 90s all weekend). But this year I’m weirdly loving that it’s getting dark earlier. It makes it easier to run at night (not so hot) and makes me want to go to bed at a decent hour. I’m definitely looking forward to sweaters and boots!

      September 26, 2015 at 3:42 pm

I don’t mind that it gets darker earlier in the evenings, but I don’t like the dark mornings. Especially now that I am living out of the city it is so dark when I leave to go running!

  10. Angie @ Pace with Grace says

    September 25, 2015 at 10:36 am

I would say that only thing I don’t enjoy about fall is that winter comes right after. I love fall clothes and boots, cooler temps, changing leaves, wine, fall running, and fall scented candles burning in the house! Its a bit on the warm side here still and I’m feeling ready for fall to be here! Have a great weekend!

  18. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

I do love boots — and have the many pairs of them to prove them — but the great reverse migration (moving my summer clothes into the other bedroom & bringing out the fall/winter clothes) is about to commence.

I find it’s so much easier to be active in the summer, oddly enough, because I don’t have to struggle out of umpteen layers. The dogs don’t have to wait for me to pull on boots, a hat, a coat, and gloves simply to go for a walk.

And every single one of my halfs for more than a year have been unseasonably warm, fall and spring alike. I am praying for a beautiful fall day in VT to turn that mojo around! And no rain, thank you (and especially no snow — it can snow in Oct in VT! We used to live there!).

I better shut up before I make someone feel bad. 🙂

I hope you have a perfect race day! I guess its always tough to know how the weather will be when picking a race. And I have been thinking that I need to start switching out my summer clothes for fall clothes. It’s alot of work!

  19. Sara @ Oats & Rows says

    September 25, 2015 at 4:07 pm

I absolutely love fall! I definitely prefer races/running in the fall over the spring. My body just can’t handle those winter runs 😉 Sadly, my weekends will soon be consumed with a class, so a fall race isn’t in the cards for me. I am totally with you on the fall/red wine thing. Since it’s cooler it’s more acceptable to drink it a little more than usual right?? 🙂 Have a great weekend!

    • [email protected] says

      September 26, 2015 at 3:55 pm

Its definitely acceptable to drink a little more in the fall…But I can make an argument for that during any season:)

    September 25, 2015 at 6:08 pm

I love fall weather and fall drinks but we don’t get a lot of it here in Los Angeles! I hope that you enjoy it for those of us who don’t get the chance!

    • [email protected] says

      September 26, 2015 at 4:31 pm

You should visit the east coast in the fall and then we should all migrate to LA in the winter when it gets obnoxiously cold here:)

I hate to see summer go, I do not like being cold. I like the cute boots and clothes. Unfortunatley I wear sweatshirts year round because for some reason I always feel cold. I went window shopping today and saw some of the cutest things. Have a great weekend

I love fall clothes too! I got a new pair of skinny jeans that are gonna look awesome with sweaters and boot. I am more excited than I should be to wear them. 🙂 I love fall also because we turn off the a/c and the heat to save a little money and open the windows for a couple weeks.

I am getting excited to do a little fall shopping! But I think first I need to go through what I already have and donate stuff that I don’t wear.

Oh girl I love those boots! If you remember, where did you get them at??

Favorite things about fall: Football season & every awesome show coming back to television. Living in Kuwait we don’t get fall weather which is such a downfall. In fact it’s suppose to be 110 degrees out today… which is becoming cool for us Haha!

I don’t remember where I got my boots! If I think of it I’ll let you know but I am seriously drawing a blank:)
