Another Weekend Away And Weekly Workouts

This was one of those weeks where running just had to take a backseat to everything else. It wasn’t really planned, but as the week progressed I realized I would just do what I could and not worry about it too much. I got back from Arkansas on Sunday evening, and then jumped right into a busy week before going away again on Friday morning. The weather in Baltimore was not exactly spring-like, which lowered my motivation even more.

I wanted to get in one last tempo run before my 10k next weekend, so I planned to do that on Tuesday. It was cold and windy. Like really cold and windy. I was annoyed about the weather the whole time and my body just didn’t want to cooperate. I felt like I was just “going through the motions” and while I pretty much completed the workout I didn’t really have an opinion about it afterwards, I was just glad it was over.

On Friday morning I wanted to get in a longer run before leaving for a bachelorette weekend in Miami, but as I got started I just wasn’t feeling it. However, it turned out to be one of those runs where everything starts clicking around mile 4. So I did 8 miles because that’s what I had time for.

Miami

Another Weekend Away And Weekly Workouts

I was excited to run in Miami where it was warmer, but Sunday morning ended up being really windy there. What’s the deal with the wind everywhere lately? So after getting not enough sleep, I did easy runs while I was there but once again didn’t feel like they were good or bad or anything else…it was just part of my usual routine of waking up and going running.

Monday: Rest

Tuesday: 6 miles with 2 x 2 miles at 10k pace

tuesday

Wednesday: 3.1 miles easy, core/hip exercises

Thursday: Strength training

Friday: 8 miles, core work

friday

Saturday: 4.2 miles

saturday beach

Sunday: 3.1 miles

sunday sunrise

Total: 24.4

Walked: 22.4    Push-ups: 3 days

Yearly Total: 621/2016

I’m actually pretty surprised I even remember what I did this week because it was a real blur. Luckily I am home of a couple of weekends for now and can get back into my normal routine. I like having Sundays as a rest day but have opted for running in my warmer-climate destinations lately.

That’s about all I have for today, as I am sort of in recovery mode from the weekend and trying to make the transition from vacation back to the real world! As for my weekend away, what happens in Miami stays in Miami. So I’ll just leave it at that?

Miami was really fun, but so expensive! It was definitely nice to escape the cold for a bit.

Miami is usually a good time, and if not a good time, then at least great stories, right? Right now, everything BUT running feels like going through the motions. ALL I WANT TO DO IS RUN. But you were probably pretty tired with all of your traveling! Hope you get your mojo back this week!

I really feel like the traveling and lack of sleep is hitting me hard this week. It was alot of fun, but its always tough to come back and jump right back into things!

Ahhh time in Miami sounds wonderful right now and I shouldn’t be saying that having been on spring break just a week ago. But yes the weather and the wind! Ugh. I can relate to running not being the focus. I feel like I just squeeze it in lately.

I already feel like this is another week of just squeezing it in. I’d much rather go back to Florida and run in the warm sunshine!

You sure are a busy little travelin’ bee. Yes I totally have going through the motions weeks- pretty much any week I am not training for a race is just going through the motions for me! Luckily, I still enjoy those weeks for the most part.

If I didn’t have a race I was focusing on I would have had no motivation at all last week. I really do better with a schedule!

I hope you had the best time in Miami! If anything I bet the warm weather was so welcome! I feel with strength training like I’m going through the motions, but the warm weather in Seattle definitely helps in keeping running exciting.

Just about every day I have been wishing that it was warmer out and lighter out during my runs! Soon enough, I hope!

Whenever I am in a training plan I feel like running is just going through the motions! It’s like “okay, what needs to be done needs to get done.”

That’s so lovely that you had a girls weekend. I honestly cannot remember the last time I went away with just friends and not Adam. Because we both have a limited number of vacation days each year whenever we use them we use them together! I hope to get more vacation days this year though after my work anniversary, haha!

I actually feel like I never go away with Rob! We always do stuff with our families or friends. The last time we went away just the 2 of us was our Honeymoon 3 years ago (other than a quick weekend trip to DC). The girls weekends are fun though! It’s nice to see my friends especially because they all live in a different state.

Miami sounds wonderful. It was chilly here in PA this wkend. But last wkend I was in AC and ran a 11k then right after hopped a plane to Vegas where I didn’t run at all. Weather was beautiful there, then right to Va Beach for a few days. So I hear ya w wanting to be home for awhile now. What a great pic of you and the ladies looks like you had a blast.

I love Miami–my parents actually live right in South Beach! I always see groups of bachelorette/bachelor parties when I go visit. I bet it was a blast! And I totally agree about the weather last week–I had my speed work Tuesday and almost got blown away by the wind, and the wintry mix we got Saturday morning was not fun. I’m ready for spring!

Looks like a fun weekend! I had to let running take a backseat too – I got some runs in, but nothing like what I’d want the weekend before a half marathon. Between the weird weather in the Northeast, stiffness from sitting for a lot of driving, and wanting to spend time exploring my boyfriend’s family’s town with them rather than be out all morning running by myself, it wasn’t going to happen. No regrets though!

Awe, I’m so glad you got to go away like that and be a hooligan. You totally deserve it. I hate running in the wind, especially tempo runs! THE WORST. Glad you had that feel-good 8 miler though. I love it when runs turn into good ones like that!

      April 12, 2016 at 6:00 pm

Haha I love that you said “hooligan”! Rob and I alway say that but I don’t know many other people who do! Windy tempo runs are the worst. I am crossing my fingers and toes that it’s not windy for my 10k!

I’m so OVER the wind. I thought about riding my bike Sunday, but I don’t like to do that in the wind either. When running is such a part of our lives and routine, I think it’s normal to feel like we are going through the motions sometimes. It’s like brushing our teeth. It’s just something we do. And, it probably speaks volumes about how ingrained it is in our lives — who we are. That’s not such a bad thing. Thanks for linking with us Lisa.

That’s a good point! It’s nice to not have to think too much about exercising because its just what I do.
Smart call to skip the bike ride- riding into the wind sounds rough!!

I haven’t heard anything about Boston weather for the marathon but I hope it’s not too warm! I feel like 99% of the time I am complaining abut the temperature for running, it’s either too hot, cold, windy, icy, etc…

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
