Running

It was a challenging week of training for various reasons! The week started out pretty well, but went downhill pretty quickly. It was also pretty warm and humid most of the week, especially on my hard workout day. I just kept reminding myself to focus on effort. Overall, it turned out to be a pretty good week of training but I will need to continue monitoring how I am feeling and making adjustments as needed.

Do you have a running support team? You probably do, even if you don't realize it. Maybe you have a friend who you run with. Or a really good physical therapist. People who can support your running, while providing you with motivation and confidence, can all be a part of your support team. Here are some ideas for building an effective running support team.

Training Week 3: Making Adjustments for Heat

Well somehow it is July already! In some ways I feel like it's hard to believe we are halfway through 2021. But I also feel like it's been summer for MONTHS already, so how can it only be the beginning of July? As usual, it's time to start out the month with some coffee. Since there has been a heat wave I'll be enjoying mine iced.

Jack Daniels developed a tool to provide runners with a way to determine their appropriate training paces without having their VO2 max measured in a lab. Now there is a simple, user friendly app and training platform available for free for runners to use to help track their training and find their appropriate training paces. Here is more about what VDOT O2 is and how it can help your training for free.

I'm back after skipping last week's Weekly Run Down due to my blog being down! But everything is back up now so it's time to play catch up. Two weeks ago I started training for a fall race. I am hoping to do a marathon. but may consider doing a half if a full is too much. My motto as I've started training is "start where you are". I will slowly build, add some speed, and see where it takes me.

Are all the miles of marathon training making you bored? It is possible to avoid boredom while training for a marathon! Here are some ways I stay motivated and engaged during a training cycle.

This has been an interesting month as I've navigated running during the Brood X cicada invasion which happens every 17 years. While I am not a fan of cicadas, they are harmless so I have continued to run while they have been around. I've learned that there are other periodic cicadas that will be out in the coming years, although I'm not sure if it will be as bad as this. Here is what you need to know for continuing to run when the periodical cicadas invade.

5 Tips for Continuing to Run when the Periodical Cicadas Invade
