in Life, ultimate coffee date · July 3, 2020

Currently: July 2020

I thought for this month’s Ultimate Coffee Date I would share what’s been going on currently around here. Remember when “Currently” posts were a more common thing? I didn’t write them very much, but I thought for this week it would give me some structure to all the random stuff that’s been going on. That being said, I had to double check when I started to write that it was July already (as I draft this a few days early). How did that happen?

Currently: July 2020

Currently (July 2020) Over Coffee

Currently Loving

Summer sunrises. Now that I run with the stroller more I am not always out at 5am, but a few days a week I run solo and am still loving the early sunrises. It’s so sad that the days are already starting to get shorter now.

sunrise

Currently Eating

The same things, day after day and week after week. It’s just easier to go with what we know and like than to try to get too creative. We try to order most of our groceries online, so I don’t want to be making complicated meals with alot of ingredients and then worrying that we can’t get something we need.

Currently Drinking

All the coffee, of course. Lately I’ve been making an iced decaf coffee to drink the afternoon. It’s been 4 months since I had Starbucks (or any coffee out) and I can’t say I really even miss it.

Currently Listening To

Podcasts. (and Disney radio on Pandora.) I usually just listen to podcasts on my long runs and my go-tos are Ali on the Run, Running for Real, and Work Love Play. I also started listening to Nail Your Nutrition recently and that’s a good one too!

Current Guilty Pleasure

Sitting by myself and doing nothing. It rarely happens but its a nice treat when it does. Last week on one of my days off from work Grayson took a really long nap, so after some meal prep and cleaning I sat outside for a few minutes. Of course it wasn’t all that relaxing because I was basically expecting him to wake up at any moment.

wine
an old picture, and no I wasn’t drinking wine…

Current Obsession

My Brooks Glycerins. I never thought to try them on my own, but was sent a pair as a Brooks Ambassador and they have become my favorite. I’ve always liked to alternate shoes, so I still wear other shoes a few times  a week but I definitely look forward to wearing the Glycerins and sort of “save” them for certain runs.

Find Some Run Happy 5k

Current Mood

Tired. Always tired. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all. Sometimes I think the weekends are more tiring than the week days because it’s a combination of catching up on what didn’t get done during the week and prepping for the week ahead.

Current Frustration

Pinterest! Ugh. I used to love Pinterest. I got so much of my traffic from there. Well apparently they changed their algorithm this spring and I noticed my account took a huge hit in early June. I joined some Facebook groups about Pinterest and this is a widespread issue. Pinterest is really not giving anyone answers other than to make fresh pins and to post new, fresh pins more than older, repined ones. I’ve been trying this for a few weeks and it’s not getting any better. I might just have to let it go and focus on something else for awhile until they start giving us some answers.

That’s basically what’s been going on around here lately! Nothing too exciting, but these days that’s a good thing, right?

I too am frustrated with pinterest. My blog views have dropped precipitously! Pinterest was the biggest driver of traffic to my blog. I give up. TIred of the game.

I agree with you on the sunrises! Sunsets too. It’s been a great summer for sky watching.

Yep, same for me with Pinterest. I guess it was too good to last.

I also love by Brooks Glycerins! I don’t really see any sunrises these days but I always love to catch the sunsets. Glad you are able to carve out a little time for yourself. Pinterest! Ugh I’ve been working my ass off very frustrating. If you ever want to chat strategy you know where to find me. Thanks for catching up over coffee!

Sounds good! I am trying to give Pinterest some time to see if my changes help at all. I’ve contacted them twice and they said nothing is wrong with my account and to give it time. Ugh.

I truly don’t understand what has happened to FB and Pinterest. I get that these sites need to make money with ads and I get that they might want to promote popular posts/pins but what a mess…the bottom line is that being on FB simply isn’t enjoyable and Pinterest is useless so while I haven’t shut down my accounts I also almost never go on them. Oh well.

My favorite guilty pleasure in the world is just taking a minute to kick back in a deck chair in the backyard and do absolutely nothing.

Facebook has changed so much since it was first created. Now all I see are people’s posts to groups I’m in. Not necessarily a bad thing, but where are all the people I know in real life? Its so strange.

Now that I’m working from home I’m actually ready for sunrise to come a bit later so I can see them again! I know I’ll regret those words when I have to run in the dark! What style shoe are Glycerins? I need some stability and am just trying the Adrenaline. I too am making the same meals over and over but am so bored with it, but also not inspired to branch out!

Thanks for joining us for coffee.

The Glycerins are neutral with alot of cushion. I usually don’t wear much cushion but these just felt so comfortable from the moment I put them on!

You probably know how much I love my sunrises, on foot and on wheels 😉 I’m trying to just sit for a few minutes (with a chai LOL) after work and do nothing. I feel like I should be catching-up on all the Insta stuff…but it feels good to just be sitting. I share my blog stuff to Pinterest, but seldom make the time to really focus on pinning/re-pinning. I simply do not have the time.

For awhile I would spend like 20-30 minutes once a week just scheduling pins to Tailwind (my own and others) and that was working well. Now apparently I repinned content too much and they didn’t like that. It’s frustrating.

I definitely feel like June flew by!! I don’t drink coffee, but I miss my weekly-ish bubble tea, haha.

I hate when social media changes their algorithms, haha. My pins were doing pretty well earlier this year but not so much lately. They also randomly suspended my account a couple months ago due to an error (but thankfully I got it back)!

Oh how frustrating! My views got so low that I actually checked with them to see if I was marked as spam or something. They said no, but there is definitely something weird going on. Very annoying.

OMG. Mr PugRunner is driving me nuts – I could eat the same thing every day, but he is constantly like “let’s make something new! And fancy! And complicated!” So it just adds one more layer to the day. On the plus side, he does a lot of the cooking now, so I can’t complain, but some days, i just want a bowl of pasta with a simple sauce and to call it a day.

      July 3, 2020 at 7:09 pm

At this point I would eat pasta with plain sauce every day and not really care lol. Cooking is so much work and I have to do so much meal prep on the weekends in order to eat decent meals throughout the week. I just dont have time to cook on the days I’m working from home while parenting.

I used to run in Brooks Glycerins and loved them, but then my feet got even more finicky and I couldn’t wear them any more. 🙁

I’m not a tea or coffee drinker. I’ve just never liked the taste of either…

    Have a great holiday weekend!

Oh that’s too bad that the Glycerin’s don’t work for you anymore! I hate when I find a shoe I really like and then it just stops feeling as good.

I love that you have iced coffee in the afternoon – I may copy this! Sometimes I need an afternoon pick me up and this would be perfect.

I also love my Brooks sneakers, but I mainly run in the Adrenalines. I just had to retire a pair this week but luckily I have a brand new pair waiting for me in my closet!

I almost like forgot iced coffee was an option since I am not used to making it at home. But I’ve been in the habit of having a cup of decaf in the afternoon since WFH so I figured why not drink it cold?
I love breaking out a new pair of shoes!

Awww, never under estimate the time spent alone relaxing, if even for a few moments!
I Love Pinterest! I haven’t been on in a while, but when I do, it is usually to look up a recipe. I haven’t pinned any of my own blog posts lately, so I haven’t noticed anything different, But I can understand where that would be frustrating! Hope you have a nice holiday weekend!n-M

      July 5, 2020 at 6:50 pm

I definitely use Pinterest to find recipes alot! I was getting most of my blog traffic from there for awhile, so its frustrating now that its changed.

Oh I missed these posts! I may have to do one soon.

I’ve been loving the podcasts I Weigh and You’re Wrong About. And eating all the pb&j on toast. Pretty much every single day for breakfast.

I have so much time to myself comparatively (yet it doesn’t really feel like it). Once you have kids, there’s no relaxing!

I do enjoy variety in my meals (but again, I’m not cooking around child care). So far I can mostly get what I need to sub whatever I can’t get. I am grateful that I can get groceries delivered.

I’m always tired too it seems. It may have to do no vacation in 18 months — or maybe it’s the dog going in & out from under the covers all night long. 🙁

      July 5, 2020 at 6:51 pm

Oh I bet having a dog in and out of the bet can definitely mess with your sleep!

I love that picture of the sunrise. I rarely see the sun rise.
I make iced coffee all the time but I do get one from Starbucks every once in a while when I’m at work.
I haven’t tried Brooks but I always hear good things about them. Definitely take time to relax while your little one naps. 🙂

      July 5, 2020 at 6:53 pm

I have a hard time resisting Starbucks when I’m out and about! But I really haven’t gone anywhere lately, so its been easy to skip it.

Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by back to back kid activities, so there was no time to post about it. (I ate breakfast in the car and lunch at soccer practice- it was that kind of a day.) I was kind of nervous going in to this run, especially now that I’m getting down to last few key long runs. I had 16 miles with 4 x 2 miles on the plan, which sounded manageable but also challenging. The weather was perfect and I hit all my paces. At the end I got a little confused- thinking I was at 15 miles but I was actually at 14 🙃 Got home and realized I chafed really bad. Another long run down, and another week closer to race day.

Do you ever psych yourself out before long runs?
