When I saw that the topic for the Friday Five this week was “Five Things About My Day”, I started laughing at the irony as I was trying to put this together on Thursday. It was quite a day! Unfortunately I can’t share too many details about my day at work…partly because of confidentiality and partly because it would just be inappropriate. So at the end of a pretty crazy week, let’s see what I can come up with!
1. Even though I’m not running in the morning, I’m still getting up at 5am. It feels good to get my day started early and ensures that I will get my PT stuff done. I’ve been foam rolling and doing my exercises as soon as I wake up. Then it’s time for coffee, blogging, and breakfast.
2. As I said yesterday, choosing clothes has been a huge pain lately. Rob told me this morning that it’s a good thing I have a job or he wouldn’t expect me to ever wear anything besides sweatpants. When he leaves for work and gets home I am in either sweats or workout clothes, so he is really just assuming that I wear something more appropriate for work.
3. My work day was…interesting…And that’s an understatement. There’s never a dull moment, so I guess that’s a good thing! Sorry for being so vague about this. If we ever meet in real life I will tell you a story or two:)
4. After work I made my way to DC for packet pick-up or the Rock N Roll half. Getting there was just as annoying as I expected. The silver lining(s): It was a nice day to be walking around outside, and I got my steps in.
Traffic home was not fun at all.
5. Since I wouldn’t be home for dinner, Rob was in charge. Taco night! We always make our own seasoning now using this recipe. The other ingredients we use vary based on how we are feeling. Tonight was ground turkey, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, salsa, and cheese.
I’m linking up with Courtney, Cynthia, and Mar!
Is there bad rush hour traffic where you live?
What toppings do you like to eat on tacos?
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
That sounds like a nice early morning routine! I’ve been finding it tough to wake up early this week since once again it’s so dark. A few more weeks of dark runs now!
[email protected] says
The dark mornings do make it tough! Hopefully not for much longer!
Suzy says
Ahhh, I’d do anything to hear some inappropriate work stories! Dammitall. I know the no-share feeling though. It’s like Jerry Springer over here at the best of times and MAN do I have some gooders! Hopefully one day when we’re farther removed from it all, I’ll be able to write about them. 😉
[email protected] says
Haha, I would love to hear your stories too!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I am so glad I work at an elem school and can get away with leggings all day as well! Today is a teacher in service day so I am reaaaally dressing down today!
When I stopped running for a few weeks I still got up early too! It made me miss running less to go about my routine as normal. I think that is important to keep you sane and also ensure you get the PT stuff done. Cause face it, PT exercises are not fun!
[email protected] says
I dress pretty casual at work but still complain about it:) It definitely helps to make you feel better to keep up with a regular routine even when you’re not running!
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
Yes to leggings for life! And yes, terrible traffic here as you know. It’s either 20 minutes on a good day to get just about anywhere or three hours in traffic.
[email protected] says
I am pretty grateful that I never really had to deal with traffic since I always worked weird hours when I lived there. My dad worked in the city and I remember he would leave super early and come home late and that was the only way he didnt have to sit in hours of traffic.
Jessica @ kiwiyogirunner says
Thse tacos look so good! I am waitressing part time and studying full time and if it wasn’t for my job I would never get out of my workout clothes! I pretty much only wear my waitressing clothes and leggings at home these days! 🙂 the traffic in Sydney is bad but I don’t drive and just walk everywhere 🙂
[email protected] says
Thats so nice that you can walk everywhere! Traffic is the worst!
Chrissy @Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
I love tacos! I like to put mild salsa, cheese and red or green peppers on mine.
[email protected] says
Yum!
Kristin says
You had me at taco! I can’t wait to try your taco seasoning recipe. Good luck this weekend!
[email protected] says
I actually linked to someone else’s recipe- but still a good one! Hope you like it!
Sam @ The Running Graduate says
YUM! I have not had tacos in forever. I actually already requested that my mom make them for me next week. It looks like it was an absolutely beautiful day in DC. It looked pretty here yesterday but it was cold again!
I’m happy today’s Friday because it means legging day at school because I don’t have any clinical assignments! And I would love to hear a story or two about your job 🙂
[email protected] says
It was nice to be able to walk around DC without a jacket!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
Leggings for life! Now that I work from home, I wear leggings all the time. Those Tacos look so good! We had steak, avocado, and goat cheese tacos this week, and omg goat cheese is so good on tacos. DC looks beautiful this time of year!
[email protected] says
I’ve never tried goat cheese on tacos- sounds interesting! We usually do avocados too but didn’t have any this week
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I definitely still get up early even when I don’t run–it is just such a part of my routine. And I wake up, so might as well get up! I am so happy that right now my concept of “rush hour” is walking quickly across traffic. I do not envy those stuck in rush hour around Chicago!
[email protected] says
There is no way I would want to drive if I lived in a major city. Baltimore is weird because we don’t really have public transportation (besides busses- which still have to sit in traffic) and most things you can’t walk to. I did like that I was able to drive to the DC metro outside of the city and take that to the expo- I wouldn’t have wanted to drive directly into DC!
Salt says
You know where I live and UGH YES TRAFFIC.
Good luck tomorrow!! I can’t wait to hear all about it and wish I was there too. I have to run a half marathon anyway so I don’t know why I didn’t sign up. So many awesome folks are doing this race!
Even when I am not exercising in the morning I can’t really sleep late anymore. I do like the feeling of getting my day started early. I wear a lot of leggings too, especially right now during our weird transition weather. No shame. 🙂
[email protected] says
Im actually not running (went to the expo to get Rob’s bib because he wouldn’t have been able to get there in time after work)- I would have given you my bib if I knew you wanted to run! Hey its not too late if you still want it:)
I am sad to be missing it but I know its for the best.
Lesley says
I easily have more workout clothes than work clothes. I find it difficult when I need to shop for work clothes and I just keep wearing the same stuff over and over.
[email protected] says
I know what you mean! I love shopping for and wearing workout clothes:)
Stacy @ SweatingTulipz says
I love tacos and those look fabulous! Our toppings vary too, but I love black beans, rice, jalapenos, corn, tomatoes, spinach, onion, green pepper, and salsa! Yum!
Your morning routine sounds great! I have been thinking about starting to get up earlier again before work to get my day started. I used to, but got out of it because I was spending so much time working out in the evenings, but getting up to read blogs and enjoy some time at home before craziness sets in sounds nice.
I am a physical education teacher, and group fitness instructor. Thus, I never wear anything aside from leggings and workout clothes. When I have to get ‘dressed’ it is a disaster b/c I struggle with what I want to wear so badly! If I had to go back to wearing real clothes everyday, it would really be bad!
[email protected] says
That is awesome that you get to wear workout clothes all the time!
Taca @ A Side Of Dessert says
I came home pretty late last night so there was barely any traffic. I guess the benefit of working late! hmmm I love some guac on my tacos! Probably my favourite alongside some sour cream 🙂
[email protected] says
By the time I drove back from DC the other night it was late enough that I had missed most of the traffic, so i was happy about that!
Ive never done guar on tacos but we usually do avocados!
Elizabeth says
leggings are the best! I live five minutes from my office so I don’t deal with a lot of traffic, but when I’m commuting from my boyfriend’s that’s a different story. I’ve become a master of the back roads.
P.S. Those tacos look delicious!
[email protected] says
I like really close to where I work so i don’t deal with traffic either! Its really nice, and I am really gonna miss my short commute when I move a little farther away next month!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
Tacos look fabulous! Good luck at the race this weekend!
[email protected] says
Thanks!
I’m actually not running the race- I went to the expo to get our packets because my husband is running and he wouldn’t have been able to get there in time.
Chelsea @ runner's table says
Tacos are my favorite! We like to make fish or shrimp tacos when we’re in a hurry, and Salt Lake City has awesome taco carts. I like cabbage, pico de gallo, and some sort of nice, hot salsa. Actually, I’ve been doing tacos about twice a week lately…it’s probably time to find a new obsession 🙂
I’m the same way with sweatpants/pj’s…putting on real clothes is the hardest part of the day. Happy Friday!
[email protected] says
You are so creative with your tacos! We usually keep things pretty simple. Have a great weekend!
Lizzy says
Ah, I feel you with the work silence thing. I really can’t say much about what I’m doing right now, other than that it requires me to spend half my time in Indiana and it’s part of finishing my research. It’s super frustrating because I am so open about so many other things!
I hope you ended up with a fun race shirt after dealing with that traffic!
[email protected] says
Its weird to not be able to talk openly about work, but I always remind myself that this is a public blog and anyone has access to it!
Marcia says
I love that Rob made tacos! The Caveman can barely boil water but likely doesn’t know where pots are kept to even do that. : /
Yes, Chicago traffic is the worst. It keeps me from doing many races in the city. Just such a PIA!
[email protected] says
There are a few meals he makes, so its nice to be able to plan for him to cook on nights when I will be home late!
diane@runninrocker says
YES, leggings for life! I am not sure when’s the last time I wore pants haha real pants like jeans. I totally enjoyed the RnR DC half last year! It was a running tour of the city and the weather was PERFECT! Have a wonderful weekend and a GREAT race!!
[email protected] says
I’m actually not running due to an injury, but went to get our packets because my husband is running and he wouldn’t have been able to get to the expo in time after work. But I have done it twice (I was there last year too!) and its definitely a great race!
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
I’m kind of thankful for my PT exercises, Lisa; it gives me something to focus on when I’m not running and I feel like I’m improving myself each time. Even though we live in a relatively small city, we do have some traffic snafus; people seem incapable of driving in the rain without having accidents and the downtown area (where we had packet pickup for our recent marathon event) is always a bear. I’m glad you got everything done! Best of luck on your race this weekend; I can’t wait to hear all about it!
[email protected] says
Sadly I won’t be racing this weekend- my PT and I agreed it wouldn’t be a smart decision. But my husband is doing it so I went to get our packets because he wouldn’t get there it time after work.
Its always good to focus on PT when you can’t run!
Kelly @ The Fit Skool says
We have such bad traffic over here too, I live just 40 minutes from New York City so rush hour is a time that I try to avoid.
I noticed your breakfast scramble has sweet potatoes. I eat sweet potatoes allll the time but never for breakfast, I suppose I should try it because it looks yummy.
[email protected] says
I started eating sweet potatoes in my breakfasts a few moths ago and its amazing! Not sure why I didnt do that sooner:)
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Well now you have me all intrigued with your job. Come on — tell us more!! 🙂 And nice work getting up for your foam rolling, that’s a really awesome habit. Yes, there is rush hour in Northern California, and I try to avoid it as best as possible. Hope you have a lovely weekend, full of wine! 🙂
[email protected] says
Haha I wish I could tell more, but I gotta be respectful to the kids and families I work with. Traffic is the worst- I alway try to avoid it whenever possible. Enjoy your weekend as well, Ashley!
Nicole@thegirlwhoraneverywhere says
Traffic kills me! I live four miles from school and it often taken me 45-60 minutes to get to work….kills me!
Taco night is one of my favorites! It’s so fun! We make our own seasoning too..at this moment I can’t think of what is in it though. I usually make a big batch at a time!
Happy weekend my friend!
[email protected] says
4 miles in 45-60 mins?! Thats crazy!!
Gotta love tacos:)
Have a great weekend!
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
You should share a funny work story or two 😉 I felt like I had the most insane, entertaining work stories at my old job. I always wanted to share them on my blog but realized this was probably not the best idea. Good luck on the rock n roll half!
[email protected] says
Work stories are fun and interesting but I guess you never know who will find your blog one day!
I’m actually not running the race due to an injury, but went to the expo to get my husbands bib since he wouldn’t get there in time after work.
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
good luck tomorrow! look for me cheering on 13th st ne – about mile 11.5 🙂
[email protected] says
I’m actually not running:( I decided a couple weeks ago it wasn’t a smart idea with the injury Ive been dealing with. My husband is running so I went to the expo since he wasn’t able to get there in time after work.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’m an early riser too! I like being up in the morning. It’s quiet, I get to enjoy my coffee, and get a few things done before everyone gets up.
Good luck on your race!
[email protected] says
Mornings are my favorite time of day, for sure!
Hailey says
Mmm I love ground turkey in tacos :). I usually have ground turkey, lettuce, fresh tomatoes, cheese, ketchup (weird I know, my mom had done it for years and I always thought it was so gross, but if you like ketchup it’s actually really good!), sometimes salsa with that, and then some yogurt ranch.
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
I don’t really eat tacos, but I love avocado on everything. 🙂 That sounds like a lovely morning routine. The earlier I get up the more I get done. Have a great weekend!
[email protected] says
Thats how I feel about the morning- if Im not up early I feel like Im wasting the day!
Kristina says
Mmmm tonight is taco night in my house. I can’t wait. I am literally counting down the hours until it’s an appropriate enough time to start dinner 😉
I deal with awful Miami rush hour traffic. My office is about 20 miles from my house, but it takes me about 45 minutes to get to work and about 60 minutes to get home each day. Definitely the worst part of my day, but I love my job and colleagues so I deal with it!
[email protected] says
I hope you enjoyed your taco night!
Ugh that commute sounds really annoying! At least you have a job and coworkers that you like!
Jennifer says
I could wear leggings everyday. Come fall my bf says “oh legging time” haha. I haven’t worn jeans in awhile.
[email protected] says
Haha yes, I always look forward to cooler weather so I can start wearing leggings again!
Natalie says
Congrats on the half today!! I can’t wait to read all about it 🙂
Those tacos look delicious! I love avocado, tomato, cheese, cilantro and sour cream!
Traffic can be bad here, but we walk a lot and I try and take routes that are less congested.
Have a great rest of the weekend!!
[email protected] says
I actually didn’t run the race- I went to the expo to pick up my husbands’ stuff. Hope you had a great weekend!
