June StrideBox, Podiatrist Update, and One Year of my Injury

I have lots of random things to share today. First of all, don’t forget that tomorrow is Global Running Day! Hopefully we can all get out and enjoy some miles to celebrate.

"I like to party, and by party I mean run": Check out what came in this month's StrideBox! Plus an updated on seeing my podiatrist and hitting the 1 year mark of my running injury.

June StrideBox

I received my June StrideBox yesterday and I thought I would share some of the goodies that came this month! By the way: for tomorrow ONLY StrideBox is running a deal where you can get 50% off your first order using the code RunningDay17! So if you have been thinking about giving it a try, tomorrow is definitely the best day to sign up.

Here is what was in this month’s shipment:

-Kakookie Energy Cookie

-Kramp Krusher Energy Gummies

-Endurance Tape Energy Gel Alternative

-Spring Electroride Drink

-Gorilly Goods Organic Snack

-StrideBox Essentials Mesh Gear Stuff Sack

June StrideBox

I am really intrigued by the gel alternative which is Canadian maple syrup in a resealable pouch. I am also packing the Gorilly Goods (which is like a trail mix) to have as a snack at work today. And I don’t think the cookie will last long. I have a feeling Rob may have gotten to it already…

Podiatrist Update

I also wanted to share an update on podiatrist appointment which had been cancelled last Friday. The first time they can see me (at a time that is relatively convenient for me) is next Tuesday. So hopefully just one more week to go. After 2+ months of waiting, what’s one more week?

One Year of my Injury

Especially when I have been dealing with this injury for a year. That’s right, I hit the one year mark this week. I remember the run when I first noticed my foot pain on June 9th. I had raced in the Baltimore Ten Miler the Saturday before and may have not recovered well from that. After my foot hurt during my run on the 9th I took off 2 full weeks and tried new shoes. Since then there have been so many ups and downs and times that I thought it was better. At least there are a lot of things I am doing right now to get myself back on track.

bmore 10 medal

Thinking back on it, it actually feels completely different than it did when it first started hurting. It used to be more of an arch pain, now it’s like at the top of my foot right below my ankle. So is it still the same injury? I’m counting it as the same but it definitely likes to move around and play tricks on me.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for my Global Running Day post!

Oh man I hope to run one mile for global running day! I feel like so many of us are dealing with small or big injuries right now. It’s weird to think we all just want to run a mile or two when a couple years ago we were all marathon training!

Were you able to reschedule your doc appt?

      June 6, 2017 at 8:48 am

Haha Kristina you are SO RIGHT. I’m gonna try running again on Saturday. I’m not sure if that is global running day or not. I will probably end up lifting on global running day. 🙂

I hope you can have a good run no matter what day it is!

Its so strange to think back on how much I used to run. When I see my TimeHop from a few years ago I cant believe how much higher my mileage was.

Two months for me, sorry to hear about your injury! I love the sound of the stridebox.

Two months is a long time too- I hope you recover quickly!

I’ve not heard of one single item in that box. They’ve done a great job of introducing new brands! I’m sorry you’re at the one year mark. That just sucks. What does it all mean?? The longest I’ve been out injured was 6 weeks.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 6, 2017 at 7:04 pm

I have no idea why my injuries like to stick around for so long. I really think part of it is in my head- even when I am recovered I still feel something and probably change my gait because Im worried Ill get hurt again.

Has it been a year? I am sure it feels much longer to you. I hope you find answers from your podiatrist!

It does feel like a really long time, but I think Im also a bit surprised to realize that its been a full year already.

I haven’t received my StrideBox yet (hopefully it come today). All of this months items look awesome!

I’m glad that you were able to re-schedule the podiatrist appointment. Hopefully it will be a good appointment and give you some answers.

I hope when you get in you get good news!

I’ve been injured a few times but luckily nothing serious (yet).

Don’t know if I’ll be running tomorrow. Depends on how I feel.

I had a bad case of PF for about 6 months. It was not bad when I ran, actually, but after? Ouch! So probably shouldn’t have kept running. Ha.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 6, 2017 at 7:08 pm

I had PF when I first started running and mine was the same way! I noticed it later in the day especially if I was barefoot or in shoes without any support.

ONE YEAR!?!?!?! G-DAMMIT! Man, I hope you get into that appt soon. The stride box looks like fun though. That would definitely help to cheer me up!

      June 6, 2017 at 7:08 pm

The Stridebox does cheer me up! I really cant believe its been a year. No injury should last this long!

I was really excited about the stuff in this month’s StrideBox as well! I hope your appointment brings some answers – one year is a long time and I imagine it feels even longer for you.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 6, 2017 at 7:09 pm

Thanks, I don’t expect him to have any answers but I just really hope the orthotics will help!

Well boo on that anniversary! But, I’m in it for the long haul too and think it has been years now for me with good & bad days. I think that’s the 2nd worse thing about injuries – finding time to go to appointments!!
My family will be running tomorrow at our “7 on 7” club run. A 7K on June 7th… a new distance, so instant PR for all of us! I pretty much have given up on racing most of my events, unless it’s a big race that I paid for. It’s all good to just be out running!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 6, 2017 at 7:12 pm

I had piriformis syndrome in 2012 and it lasted about a year, but didnt interfere with my running the way this does. But ever since then Ive had low back/SI joint issues on that side that still bother me. And the appointments can be so time consuming!
That sounds like such a fun family run for Global Running Day!

  11. Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says

    June 6, 2017 at 2:56 pm

I feel ya on the pain. I had ITBS for 18 months. During this time I had already had several racecations planned and paid for so I didn’t exactly give it the proper recovery time it needed. You are going about this the right way!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 6, 2017 at 7:14 pm

Wow 18 months! I hope mine doesn’t last that long. After so many months of this its hard to believe it will ever go away!

  12. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    June 6, 2017 at 4:21 pm

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a year! I really hope you get some answers at your appointment!

I’m looking forward to trying all of the new StrideBox stuff – my June box just arrived!

Stridebox is great and always has great products to try out, I haven’t gotten my box yet!

You’ve been working so hard to come back from injury, I know it’s been paying off. I hope your podiatrist appointment date doesn’t get moved again!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 6, 2017 at 7:16 pm

I hope not too- that would just be ridiculous! I hope your StrideBox comes soon!

  14. Susan says

Wow, a year! That is crazy, girl. My foot injury started w/ tendonitis in late August and 7 months later when it was still there but up and down and not ever bad enough for me not to run, I finally sought out more answers. Now I have been in rehab for 2+ month, so I won’t be running for National Running Day. I will be walking 4 miles. I have a follow up with my doc today and really keeping fingers crossed I can get out of my brace. Hoping for running in a few more weeks. Good luck w/ the podiatrist. I am confident the orthotics are going to make a huge difference for you!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 7, 2017 at 7:02 pm

I really hope you are able to get out of your brace! And thanks for your confidence in the orthotics…we’ll see what happens!

    June 7, 2017 at 6:28 pm

I think I would be a little annoyed if I had to wait that long for an appt that they cancelled. Just saying! But hope you find the orthotics to help after all this time

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      June 7, 2017 at 7:16 pm

Oh yes its so annoying. But I feel like there’s no turning back now after all this time. Fingers crossed they actually help.

Hi! I’m in a safe position as you and have the same injury! I’ve had my tendinitis for about 13 months now…but i honestly ignored it when I first had it. I know it’s such a pain..but surely we’ll get there! I’m working on my strengthening now. Like u, I can’t wait to run again! Best..

That maple syrup fuel sounds interesting. I LOVE maple syrup, so I could see myself enjoying that.

Sorry you have to wait so long for the appointment, but hopefully you’ll get some answers.

Thanks! Its just frustrating to have to wait so long to get an appointment and then have it rescheduled.

Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of n Would it even be race week if I wasn’t a ball of nerves and not able to sleep? This is my first big marathon in 10 years, my first time traveling to a race in 10 years, and my first time spending the night away from my kids. And of course I’m tapering so I can’t run off the nerves 🙃 #marathontraining #taper #richmondmarathon
Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definit Looked like fall, felt like summer 🍁 I was definitely overdressed for this run but it was nice to not wear gloves or a headband! This was the run I needed a week before my marathon. After last week’s disaster of a long run it felt great to just run an easy 10 miles. (And these days 10 miles feels like nothing). I think I figured out the fueling and shoes 🤞so nothing left to do but take it easy, carb load, and get in the right mindset! Is it unseasonably warm where you are?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to b Yesterday’s long run was not what I wanted it to be. The plan was to take the day off from work, head to the trail where I could run 10 uninterrupted miles at MP (16 total) and practice my race day fueling while wearing my race day shoes.

What actually happened? All week I was stressed about this run and the condition of the trail. We had lots of rain on Thursday, and Friday was forecasted to be very windy. I tried to get in the best mindset possible, reminding myself that I won’t be able to control the conditions on race day. Meanwhile, I haven’t been sleeping well thanks to my 2 year old waking up every night, and my watch has been basically telling me that I’m losing all my fitness and need a week of recovery.

While I started the run feeling pretty good, after 11 miles (7 at MP) my stomach turned and I almost got sick on the side of the trail. I just couldn’t recover from that. The best I could do was run the rest of the miles easy, and needed some walk breaks. On top of that, my shoe kept rubbing my foot on top and I stopped twice to retie it. This has never happened before and now I’m questioning what shoes I should wear for the race. The trail was also in rough condition with several trees blocking it, lots of wet leaves, and rocks/sticks that I had to look out for.

I just can’t believe how bad I felt for the last 5 miles of this run and I can’t pinpoint the cause. Am I overdoing it with the fueling and can’t handle it on harder effort runs? Was it something I ate recently? The hard part is there’s no time to really try something different before the race, as all I have left is a 10 mile easy run next weekend.

I’m trying to remember that one bad run does not take away from all the good runs this training cycle. I’m using today to reset and move on so I can make the most of my last 2 weeks of training. It’s not the way I wanted my last big long run to go, but I suppose it was good practice for pushing through even when I felt pretty awful.

Who else has had a terrible long run close to your race?

#running #marathontraining #longrun
Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!
