The theme of this week was “just keep running”. With unpredictable temps that fluctuated all over the place, I had no idea what to expect from one day to the next. I also broke my own rule of running 3 days per week– oops! I added in a short run on Friday because I “needed it” (you know what I mean, right?) and then I was planning to do a much shorter run on Saturday (like 6 miles or so). Somehow I ended up doing 10 and felt great. So yeah, that happened.
I haven’t really been tracking my weekly mileage but this week I hit 22, which really doesn’t sound like that much. Even though it was a small jump from previous weeks it’s still a pretty reasonable amount.
Weekly Wrap: Just Keep Running
Here’s how the week looked:
Monday: 6 miles
I was off from work following my sister’s wedding and it was also one of the first days after changing the clocks back. I headed out a little after 6am it was nice and light out. I had an amazing run around the fall scenery. There’s this one area I like to run on weekdays that I don’t work (which rarely happens) and I’m not sure why. It’s just where I go on those random days. It made me wish I could always run around that time of the morning!
Tuesday: Strength training
I technically finished week 6 of phase 3 of my strength training program last week, but I decided to repeat week 6 again. I had sort of skipped a workout at one point before running the half marathon so I figured another week of these exercises wouldn’t hurt. I also forgot to let Drew know that I was done with my plan until now, so he is currently working on my next plan.
Wednesday: 3.1 miles
Just an easy 5k. I thought it was cold, but I had no idea what I would be in for later in the week!
Thursday: Strength training, 30 minutes spin bike
I started my workout early enough that I was able to have time to both strength train and ride the bike for 30 minutes. It’s nice getting both done on the same day.
Friday: 3 miles, stability exercises
It was just one of those days that I really felt like I needed a run. It wasn’t too cold when I ran at 5:30, but I think the temp actually dropped as the day went on. Even as I was walking into work around 7:30 it was so much more windy!
Saturday: 10.2 miles
Since I ran on Friday I was thinking I would do 6 on Saturday. When I woke up to 24 degree temps I felt like a shorter run would definitely be better. 5 minutes in I wanted to turn around – it was so cold! I couldn’t feel my face but luckily I had plenty of layers so the rest of my body was pretty warm. Once I got to 6 I was warming up and wanted to keep going.
Somehow I ended up doing 10 and was able to pick up the pace at the end. I haven’t seen paces in the 7s in a really long time!
It felt so good to get back inside and warm up by the fire with warm socks and coffee.
On Saturday night we went to the Marriott and Flemings to celebrate our 5 year anniversary!
What a way to refuel after a solid week of workouts. I indulged in 3 glasses of wine (way more than I usually have these days) and of course we got the chocolate molten lava cake!
Sunday: Rest
Sunday rest days when it’s cold out are the best! It was nice to just stay bundled up and not worry about getting in a workout.
It looks like it will warm back up a little this week, which will be nice. I’m definitely not ready for winter just yet!

I’m so happy to hear that you’re building mileage and feeling good after months of being unsure of when that would happen. It must feel so good!

Happy Anniversary!
Totally agree with the temps this week. From Monday to Friday we probably dropped around 40-45 degrees, it was crazy! I just have to get used to dressing for winter running again 🙂
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Exactly! Its so hard to adjust when the weather fluctuates like that.

Happy anniversary! That is a really strong finish on your long run! I don’t mind the cold until it’s in the single digits (which isn’t common out here) but I don’t like those huge temperature shifts!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
20 degrees was definitely a shock to my system after it being warm for so long. As long as there isn’t wind I can usually handle pretty low temps!

Happy Anniversary!
Great job with your running! I can’t believe you hit 10 miles and with paces in the 7s…wow!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! I’m not sure where those paces came from!

Happy Anniversary! Nice paces on Saturday. 🙂 It was sooooo freaking cold. I ran in shorts because my pants were dirty! It was rough.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I could not imagine running in shorts on Saturday! My face was the only thing exposed and I could barely feel it.

Happy Anniversary! Its always nice to get out and celebrate those things 🙂 Last week my workouts were pretty good; my injury is feeling a lot better, so running is back on the agenda!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yay for being back to running!
Katie @ Hungry Runner says
Definitely know what you mean when you say you “needed” a run. Totally been there. Solid week of training, great job! 😀 And happy anniversary!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thank you! Yes, some days we just “need” a run whether or not its on the plan for that day!
meredith @ cookie chrunicles says
ugh it was so cold over the weekend! I’m glad it warmed up again for a bit and I hope we don’t get a really cold winter! I’m just not in the mood to deal with 24 degrees again for running lol. 30 I can handle, the 20’s hurt!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yes, I feel like 30s are fine in the winter! And to deal with the 20s once in awhile is ok…its the constant cold, wine, ice, snow, etc that I would really rather not deal with.
HoHo Runs says
Wow! That is an awesome 10 mile run. Apparently the cold air works well for you.
Happy Anniversary! Special occasions are made for indulgences. 😉 Thanks for linking.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! I think to a certain point the cold works well, but once it gets really cold (like teens) then I really slow down.
