I think I spent about 2 months saying I couldn’t wait for fall, and already it is starting to feel like winter. I am just not ready for cold weather running yet. Especially in the dark. This week the cold temps seemed to arrive unexpectedly. I skipped an outdoor 5 am run in 26 degrees for the treadmill, and was perfectly fine with my decision. Eventually I will be ready for that, but not quite yet.
Weekly Run Down
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Strength Training
Wednesday: 3.1 miles
Thursday: 3.1 miles
Friday: Strength Training
Saturday: 6 treadmill miles
Sunday: 7 stroller miles
On Sunday I took Grayson out for a run and he fell asleep in the stroller. I knew he would wake up when we got home so I ran more than the 3-4 I had planned. He woke up right before I hit 7 miles. We got him this warm coat/snowsuit thing and I think he was so comfy in it that he couldn’t resist falling asleep!
I did pretty well keeping up with my prehab work. I’ve been trying to add in a few minutes of foam rolling and core work before I run. It’s less likely to happen if I save it until later. In general I have been running less which has given me more time for other things. I do try my best to make sure I have a few minutes to stretch after my run. It’s happening more often now than it was a few weeks ago.
Unfortunately I think that the cold weather is going to interfere with stroller runs. I haven’t quite figured out what temperature is too cold for taking him out. I got a plastic cover that is supposed to block the wind and rain, but when I tried to put it on the other day just to test it out he kept kicking it and it wouldn’t stay on. I’ll need to play around with it some more. We have warm enough clothes but I’m mostly worried about his face if it’s cold and windy.
It feels like November arrived and all of a sudden it’s the holiday season. I got a red cup at Starbucks and we saw Santa on Saturday. It feels way too early for all of that!
As much as I am not ready for cold weather running, I am actually ok in general with winter being around the corner. I am excited to wear sweaters and boots and put on the fireplace. It probably helps that I am home more this year due to my part time schedule so I look forward to some extra days in sweatpants. It will also be fun to celebrate Grayson’s birthday in a few weeks and then have his first “real” Christmas. (I’m not sure how much it counts when he was 10 days old- I think the holidays last year were just a big blur!)
I have a feeling that things are going to be moving really fast now and before we know it we will be saying goodbye to 2019. Then again, this whole year has gone fast.
Are you ready for cold weather running?
How do you feel about winter/the holidays arriving a little early this year?
I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down!
This fall has been too cold! Plus I woke up to snow again. Sigh. I think it’s going to be a long winter!
It’s hard to believe Grayson is going to be one! Bittersweet…
Totally bittersweet! And sorry about the snow:/
Grayson could NOT be cuter in that snuggly snowsuit! I like to think the weather can stay “nice enough” through the end of the year. Ha! Not so much. I feel like fall lasted about 3 weeks here before #allthesnow. Like Wendy said, we’ve got another storm in progress this morning. I agree, this holiday season will fly!
I also usually hope that the weather is decent through December. I know it will be bad in Jan and Feb but sometimes we get away with a mild December!
November temps did come roaring in! I still love this time of the year though. Looks like a solid week for you thanks for linking up
It is a good time of year! And hopefully the cold weather will come and go rather than stick around for good.
While I much (emphasis on MUCH) prefer the warm weather for running, I can handle the cold weather, most of the time. I”m not a fan of it arriving so soon, nor do I embrace the sub-freezing windchill. Alas, it’s what we got, so I do try to make the best of it. I know I’d miss the change of seasons if we lived further south. I’d love one of those furry things (in my size) like the little guy is sporting with that big smile 😉
Doesn’t it look so comfy?! I’d like one too!
Yea, I know what you mean about appreciating the seasons. But its definitely too soon for really cold weather!
It’s too cold! I would like at least 2 more weeks of 50 degree weather so I can give my capris a real workout 🙂 We are getting a lot of snow right now. My husband is out using the snow blower! eek! Actually I do like snow and sweaters and skiing, and all things snow, but it’s a bit too soon. I think this is just a preview. It will be gone soon. I’m OK with my morning treadmill runs too. That works for me!
I feel like the days of wearing capris are so limited. We always go from super hot shorts weather to freezing cold winter way too fast!
It did get cold quickly! Grayson looks so cozy! I’m sure if you can figure out the wind shield he’ll be fine for a while. I am so horrible at stretching but do a few dynamic warmup exercises before I start.
I do think a wind shield would help! Especially if we are going out a little later in the day. I think every little bit helps when it comes to stretching.
Ugh on the cold. For right now I’m hunkered down on the treadmill on weekdays, but as long as it isn’t too cold and the roads are clear I’ll keep running outside on weekends.
I definitely think I will be on the treadmill more during the days when I run really early. I’m hoping to still be able to get outside when its lighter out once in awhile.
I am not ready for this cold weather at all. I am not ready for the snow either. Good news is that next week it is supposed to warm up. It will be in the 40s. 🙂
That’s good news! I’m definitely not ready for it to be cold for the rest of the winter.
Grayson looks so cute in his sherpa outfit! I’ve seen people basically put a towel over baby’s faces in the summer, dunno if that would work for winter?
I switched to foam rolling before running last year, too. Helped a lot!
Not a fan of winter running. At all. In fact it’s supposed to be in the teens for our group run this weekend. Still trying to decide if I actually want to do it. Might run long Friday so I can just do a really short one on Saturday, LOL!
The problem with putting most things over Grayson is he takes them off, lol. Even when its cold he pushed the blanket off, so I need to cover him with things he can’t remove on his own.
Switching up your runs sounds like it could be a good idea! I tend to do that alot when the weather isn’t looking great.
I actually love running in colder weather as long as there’s not a huge gale happening or rain – I get really warm when running so the cold weather actually keeps me from sweating so much! But … here in the netherlands, wind and rain are inevitable so it can be annoying. At this point though I’d run in a hurricane; I just want to run!! But if I weren’t injured I’d likely be on the treadmill train as well (even though I don’t like the treadmill).
I’d even love a snowsuit like Grayson’s! haha! SO ADORABLE!
time is going to fly by now – here in the Netherlands Sinterklaas is arriving (he comes from Spain…) this weekend. That means our holiday season kicks off with the “big night” being Dec 4th. Before you know it we are all looking for a new top or dress for a NYE party and/or making new year’s resolutions and goals for 2020…
I’m sorry for complaining about running in the cold because I’ve been injured and was desperate to run in any sort of conditions! So thanks for helping me to keep things in perspective.
Really can’t believe how fast the holidays are approaching. Somehow we are already halfway through November!
