This was a busy but marvelous weekend! It started out with a ~13 mile training run with Falls Road Running on Saturday morning. We got done at like 9:15 and got ready to head to NYC on Amtrak.
Our train was supposed to get us to the city by 1:40…well we had some crazy delay issues but we finally made it and got to see two of my good friends celebrate their wedding! I’ve known one of these lovely brides since Kindergarten!
Not only are weddings a wondering time to share in all the excitement and love that the couple is experiencing, but I also enjoy catching up with friends who I don’t get to see very often.
This wedding was filled with amazing people- some who I haven’t seen since high school! It’s always fun to catch up but also makes me feel like “where did the last 13 years go?” I always wonder how people remember me and in what ways I am different than I was then. I mean, I have definitely changed a lot since I have been through college, had (a few) real jobs, and gotten married.
There are a group of us who have been friends since high school and have stayed closed over the years. But when I see people who I only keep in touch with via Facebook- the conversations have turned to who has gotten married, had kids, etc. How did that happen?!
Anyway, the wedding was amazing- I just wish I hand’t been so exhausted from that ridiculously hard run and crazy day of traveling. We ate lunch at like 11 am and then didn’t eat anything until dinner at the wedding and the runger had set in pretty bad. I tried to refrain from eating ALL of the bread basket. After the wedding we grabbed some pizza before calling it a night- I can’t even remember the last time I ate late night pizza but there was no way I could go to sleep without eating something else and the options were limited.
Luckily Sunday’s travel went much more smoothly than Saturdays because I don’t know if I could have handled any more travel issues. The whole train delay was really annoying and inconvenient- and I usually love Amtrak and would rather take the train to NY than drive, fly, or take the bus.
I love when places have the option to make your own salad. It’s the small things that made me happy on Sunday, even though I paid over $10 for this. (NY people I don’t know how you live with these prices!!)
Now its time to get back into the swing of things for the work week and marathon training. I hope you all had marvelous weekends also!
Thanks Katie!
What was something marvelous about your weekend?
How do you feel when you see people you haven’t seen in years?

I love those pictures – and miss going to weddings. You got some great shots and it looks like a wonderful time!
We are in the valley between going to weddings for friends, and going to wedding for friends’ kids! 🙂 Sadly that valley has started to fill with ‘other end of life’ things … (divorce, illness, death 🙁 ) Sorry.
As for New York prices … you get a New York salary, which seems impressive until you realize that making 2x as much doesn’t mean living any better! 🙂

I think that over the next few years our streak of weddings will come to an end also. Now all of my friends are starting to move into the having babies phase on life.
As for New York prices, I guess if you’re making the NY salary things wouldn’t seem as bad…but its really crazy how much more everything is there!

So much fun. It can be a little weird seeing people that you haven’t seen in years, but also really awesome–sometimes you can’t think of a thing to say to them, or you think OH CRAP you are different, and sometimes you just pick up where you left off. I think, on the whole, though, it can be quite fabulous: you know who they are, they can’t pretend around you, and you can decide to spend the time to get to know them again, or just shove on.

I think one of the weirdest things is when I haven’t seen someone in years but I see what they are up to on Facebook, and the only things I can think to say are stuff I have seen on there…and I wonder if its creepy that I know so much about people I haven’t seen in 10 years! But then I think it probably the same for them too…oh well, I think that is just how things are in the social media focused world today!

That sucks your travel day was long and tiring (I know those well), but at least you made it to the wedding, and it looks like it was a great time! I love getting together with people at weddings, especially now that I live across the country from most of my good friends.

Yes it was alot of fun! Most of my friends live in NY and I have a few in other cities too so its nice when we can all be together!

A double wedding?? How cool! I’ve never been to one of those haha. Definitely be an experience! I don’t see too many people who I went to high school with anymore. We went our separate ways and lost touch for the most part, but my maid of honor is my best friend from high school, and her younger sister is also one of my bridesmaids which is cool 🙂 Facebook is handy for keeping tabs on where everyone is though, and it’s crazy to see how much has changed! So many people are married and have kids already, which still
Boggles my mind. We did graduate 8 years ago though so I guess that happens haha 😛

Actually, the two brides were getting married to each other!:)
Its interesting how some people stay close with their HS friends and others go their separate ways. After HS we all stayed close during college, so my HS friends got to know my college friends and now we kind of have a big group of people most of whom are living in NYC. Its great when we can all get together!
And the baby thing is still crazy to me, too!

oh duh….I’m an idiot sometimes! Well that is awesome, the brides looked beautiful, and I think it’s really cool that you have such a big group of friends that grew as you did 🙂

salad bars are a serious love/hate relationship. I get so pumped making it amazing and then I bring it up to get weighed and holyyy mother of god it’s always over $10. So then I half enjoy the deliciousness and half kick myself for spending that much! The wedding looked like a blast I’m glad you had fun!
[email protected] says
I know what you mean about the salad bars! It kills me to think of how much I could save by buying all the stuff in the grocery store and making a salad at home.

Sounds so fun (aside from the train delays!) I haven’t been to a wedding in a long time, I guess I’m passed the wedding stage already?
I agree that all prices for everything in the NY area are unlivable but the city is the worst. I’m 15 minutes outside and this is one of the reasons I go crazy trying to buy groceries!

Every time I go to NYC I get reminded about the crazy prices! I always just find it so unbelievable. One of my friends was telling me about apartment rental prices and it was seriously shocking to me.

If it makes you feel better, my flight home from Florida was delayed over an hour which is kind of a big deal when it was scheduled to take off at 8:00 pm on a Sunday night anyway. I didn’t get home until pretty late. Glad you had a great weekend though at your friend’s wedding! And yeah, the prices here are ridiculous which is why I often think about moving to Florida (but I am sure that I will never do it lol).
[email protected] says
Oh that is annoying too! I have had some bad experiences with flight delays as well.
I could certainly see the appeal for moving to Florida! Although I don’t know if I could handle running outside there in the summer months:)

What a fun weekend! I never really got to do the wedding thing. My friends from high school are mostly still not married and my friends from grad school were already married when I met them (those overachievers lol)!
Salad bars are the best. I hate ordering the “house salad” at restaurants they’re always so boring!
[email protected] says
Most of my high school friends got married a little later (starting at like 27 and now we are 31 and some are still not married). But I feel like these days there is really no rush and people just wait longer to get married!
I have had a few really good house salads but I agree that they are usually a little too boring:)

Fun weekend! You two look adorable post run!
Traveling/traffic/delays are a nightmare and would drive me insane! I’ve only been to NYC once though (for the marathon) and I would love to go back again someday!:)
I only have one wedding this year and although I’m in it, and should prob be relieved not to be spending MORE money, it makes me a little sad that I don’t have more to go to because they’re a ton of fun!:)
[email protected] says
I definitely have mixed feelings about weddings because I have alot of fun when I am there but there is usually a some stress around money and travel (we have been to very few local weddings!) I know I will miss going to weddings when all my friends are done getting married!
