10 Reasons to Love Running

Happy Valentine’s Day! What better day than today to talk about some of the many reasons to love running? Now many of you reading this already love running and will probably agree with many of the reasons I am going to share. Others may not love running (yet) but maybe we can convince you to give it a try! There are so many reasons to love running, but I understand not everyone feels that way. My best advice is to not give up too soon. One day you may realize that you love it too!

Let’s talk about some of the many reasons to love running! Many of you reading this already love running and will probably agree with many of the reasons I am going to share. Others may not love running (yet) but maybe we can convince you to give it a try!

10 Reasons to Love Running

1. It’s a healthy habit

Many people start running to lose weight and stay in shape, but then they get hooked! At this point it’s a bonus that something I enjoy is good for me. Many runners also become motivated to eat better because they want to feel better on runs.

2. You can do it (almost) anywhere

You don’t need fancy equipment or a gym membership to run. All you need is a safe place to go outside! Having an indoor option is helpful, but usually not necessary.

3. It (sort of) requires very little gear

They say that all you need to run is a pair of shoes. That’s not entirely true, but it definitely requires less than many other sports!

4. But you get to try out fun gear if you want!

There are some things you need in order to run, but there are many things that you will want once you start running! Fancy watches, all the running clothes and shoes, more recovery tools than you can fit in your house…

5. You can explore new places

Running can take you anywhere, and you can take running with you anywhere. Trying different routes and seeing a new place by foot is always fun.

6. The running community is the best

Both in person and virtually, runners form an instant connection. Once you overhear someone talking about running it’s hard not to strike up a conversation. And if you are an Instagram runner you probably know that there is endless support from a community of runners that you may not have even met in real life.

7. There’s a race distance for everyone

From 1 mile races to 100 mile ones, there are plenty of options to try. Even kids can participate in fun runs! You may start out with a 5k and then one day end up running a marathon.

8. You can always find a way to challenge yourself

Even if you don’t race, there are ways to challenge yourself with running. Each run is a new opportunity to work towards something or achieve a goal.

9. There is always something new to learn about running

There are plenty of running books, websites, and podcasts that provide information about running. The research changes too, so it’s important to keep up with the latest information. Runners also learn from experience over time.

10. Running will change your life

Almost every runner I have met has felt this way. You may not even feel like your life needs to change, but running will shape you into a different person. And one day you may just find that you are happier, healthier, and kinder thanks to running.

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
