Over the years I have slowly accumulated different types of equipment to be used for working out at home. I didn’t really think of this space where I work out and store these things as a “home gym” until we got an exercise bike a few months ago. Now it seems to be fairly well-rounded and I think I could get away with doing all of my workouts here if I had to. Of course, I still run outside, but I no longer feel like I am missing anything by not having a gym membership.
Today, I thought it would be fun to share what I have in my home gym! When possible, I’ve included links to the products if I could still find them. (Some of these are affiliate links.) I’m not going to go into detail about how I like each of these products because that would make this too long, but feel free to leave a comment or E-mail me if you have any specific questions!
Home Gym
Here is the area of our basement where I work out and keep all my exercise stuff. The space is a little odd but I make it work. The door behind the TRX is a guest bedroom and then there is a bathroom to the left (behind where the bike is) and a closet on the right.
Weights and Storage
Over here in the back corner I keep my bosu, stability ball, weights, and other random stuff.
Bosu and Stability Ball:
Weights (I got a weight rack last year and we have 3 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb, 15 lb, and 20 lb hand weights), a pull-up bar, a heavy bar and plates (these were Rob’s from before we lived together) and kettlebells.
On top of the plastic drawers I keep my iPad, watch, balance disc, and a random towel.
In the drawers are lots of exercise bands, a coregeous ball, a pure barre ball, and foam rollers. (I keep another foam roller, the stick, supernova, and my R8 roller upstairs in the family room because I use them in the evenings)
Exercise Bike
As you may already know we got a spin bike a few months ago.
It faces the TV but we don’t have a cable connection over here so I usually just put my iPad on the handlebars. Eventually I want to get something to mount my iPad on there.
Exercise Bands and Supplemental Workout Equipment
In this other corner I use the TV stand to store lots of random stuff. Don’t even ask what is in the red bag on the bottom. That is pretty much where I stick anything that I don’t use regularly!
I got these bands after they were recommended by my PT. Also, I recently invested in a magic circle to use for Pilates. My yoga mat is kept over here as well.
Running Accessories
On the TV stand I keep just about everything for running: road ID, flip belts, headbands, gloves, headlamps, etc. I also have workout DVDs and books here.
Next to the TV stand is a mirror, a yoga block, and a balance pad.
TRX
Finally, in this back corner is my TRX.
I keep my running shoes in this closet to the right but I chose not to take a picture because it’s kind of a disaster in there!

What kinds of workouts do you do at home?
Do you have a “home gym” or some workout equipment?
Do you have a gym membership? How often do you use it?
I’m linking up with Annmarie, Nicole, Michelle, and Jen for Wild Workout Wednesday!
That’s an awesome home gym! You have all the essentials, and most importantly you have tons of open space to use them! Thanks for linking up!
Thanks! Yes, the space is so helpful! Its much better than my old apartment where I had no room to store anything or move around!
I think this is an awesome set up! I just have my free weights and pure barre ball and block in the cabinet in living room where I do pure barre. I don’t have a gym membership but I do have my community gym which I don’t think I could live without since the treadmill and elliptical come in really handy when I don’t want to/cant run outside.
I really wish I had a community gym just to be able to use a treadmill once in awhile. We have a community pool and building, so before we moved in we were hopeful they would put a gym there, but I don’t think its gonna happen.
Your home gym is better than most regular gyms! I hope that I have a home gym some day. We don’t have enough space for anything, really, and I can’t spend all my time at the regular gym.
It was tough in my old apartment to do much besides some stuff with bands. There was no way we could have fit a bike in there!
I highly recommend checking out peloton, you can buy their app for 12.99 and have access to live spin classes and 3000 on demand rides. they recently added “beyond the rides classes”
You can use the app for free for a week I think
I have affiliation with them but have a home gym like you and found their classes a great addition, especially in the winter time
Thanks for sharing!
Having a great home gym has been a life saver for me! Will check out all of your workouts for sure
Its so convenient to be able to work out at home! I hope you find some workouts that you like!
I love the idea of an organization container for those random balls, resistance bands, etc. Those are everywhere in my house.
I used to be the same way! Now at least they have a home…it doesn’t mean I always keep them in there, but at least I try!
I dropped my gym membership because I was using my complex’s fitness room so much. It was nice to get home first and out of traffic, then do my workout. I have resistance bands, a Pure Barre double tube, and small weights for my at-home workouts.
Its nice to be able to use a gym that is so close to home! And in my experience community fitness centers don’t seem to get as crowded as regular gyms.
Such a great little home gym. I think you did a great job with the space – something like that would entice me to work out at home more!
Its definitely nice to not have to go anywhere to work out!
You are so well equipped! I’ve collected things over the years too and now feel like I don’t need a gym membership- although I do have a free one that I use for occasionally boot class or Barre classes. The treadmill, spin bike and weights/exercise bands and TRX get me through the winter months!
I wouldn’t pass up a free gym membership either! But at this point I don’t feel like I need to pay a monthly fee when I have almost everything I need at home.
Your home gym has better gear than my apartment’s gym! That gym is nice but I wish it had a BOSU, kettlebells, and TRX system. I haven’t had a gym membership in years (not counting the apartment one included in rent). Your space is so well organized that it seems very soothing to exercise in!
I guess there are some limitations to using an apartment gym! But its nice that its included with your rent and you don’t have to travel far to use it!
That’s an excellent gym setup. We had a space in our garage that was a gym but that has been taken over by junk recently. But I need to step up the strength training so I’ll be reorganizing that space real soon.
I find that I am much more likely to strength train if I make the space to do so!
You have a sweet home gym! You pretty much have everything my building’s gym has!
Thanks! I figured if I wasn’t going to join a gym I might as well build up what I can at home!
You have a great home gym! Getting our “pain cave” set up was one of the first things we did when we moved into this house 15 years ago. My treadmill is that old and fingers crossed it keeps going for awhile.
15 years for a treadmill is great! That may be the next thing I try to add, but we’ll see. Im not a big fan of the treadmill so it would be more for convenience when the weather is bad.
This is great! I’d love to have a home gym. I have a little “workout corner” in my room but I’d be lying if I said I use it. I’m fascinated with Peloton bikes and totally at least want a spin bike.
When I lived in an apartment i just had a corner where I kept all my workout stuff. I accumulated a lot of stuff during that time but the space wasnt functional. Now I feel like I can actually work out at home most days!
Holy cow, your home gym is amazing! I’m looking to get a spin bike for home since I’ve been off running and really miss the cardio (and thanks for the info on your bike!), and have a couple of mats and foam rollers – but not enough to really count as a home gym. Also, I wish California had basements – so jealous!
Oh man I couldnt imagine not having a basement! I figure since i tend to get injured pretty often it will be really helpful to have a bike. Plus its a great way to cross train!
Love your home gym! I have a spin bike, kettlebells, a few dumbbells, balance disk, weighted balls and a tractor tire for flipping. I’d love to purchase a TRX set …maybe I’ll gift that to myself for Christmas! I also have a gym membership because I still enjoy weights, classes and a variety of cardio. However, I like having enough equipment at home for those days I just don’t feel like getting out or it’s too late.
Thanks! It sounds like you have a good setup as well! I do miss the classes but not enough to pay for a gym membership.
Love your home gym set up! I have a home gym too and am getting a spin bike for Christmas, can’t wait to use it!
Im sure you will love having a spin bike! It was a great addition to my home gym!
I love your set up! You have a lot of equipment so it doesn’t surprise me that you are able to do everything at home. My Ullman up bar looks similar to yours. How much were those trx things u have on your door? I use them at the gym but don’t have them at home. I never really wished I had a gym space at home until I read this! Our spin bike is in the guestroom but it can be rolled into the sunroom by the tv. My weights lay on a yoga mat on our guestroom floor and I have to move them to the sunroom when I want to use them. We have a weight bench in the basement but it’s too big to bring upstairs so I use my piano bench! It’s actually perfect if I lay a towel on it lol. We don’t real k you have room for a gym in our house as its too small. The basement ceilings r way too low… we could take the bed out of the guestroom and make it a gym because honestly we never have visitors!!
It is kind of annoying to have to go into the basement to work out, but its nice to have the space to keep everything in one place. I got the TRX for my bday last year. I think its around $150. Definitely pricy but I can use it for all sorts of exercises instead of buying lots of different weights. Great idea to use your piano bench as a workout bench!
I think $150 is worth it since you can do so much with them!
Glad you finally gave us a little tour around your workout room. You always seem to have many pieces of workout equipment. You should never get bored with your exercises.
You gave me the idea to do this kind of post, so thanks! I agree, I don’t think I will get bored with my workouts now that i have all this different equipment!
Oh, you have a real workout room at house. That’s so great. Thank you for sharing!
