Anyone else feel like the first full week of 2021 was the longest week ever? As usual, I was thankful for running this week. I had some fun speeding things up as I started putting in some work towards a 5k I want to do in a month or so.
Weekly Run Down: Speeding Things Up
Monday: 5.95 Miles with 5 x 1k at 10k Pace
Tuesday: Strength Training + 3.5 Treadmill Miles
Wednesday: 5 Miles with 2.81 in 20:21
Thursday: Strength Training + 3.1 Treadmill Miles
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 7 Miles
Sunday: 3.6 Stroller Miles
Monday’s Speedwork
My first harder workout was 5 x 1k at 10k pace. I had no idea how this would go since it’s been a little while since I ran faster paces. It felt pretty good and was a challenging but manageable workout. It feels so long ago at this point that I don’t even remember how the weather was. I guess it couldn’t have been too bad if I don’t remember!
The craziest part of this run was I followed a workout on my watch which had me finish at 5.95. I saved the workout without even looking at the total distance. If I had known better I would have run another .05 to get to 6 miles!
The 20:21 Run
Later in the day on Monday I saw that Brooks had challenged everyone to run as far as they could in 20 minutes and 21 seconds. That sounded like a fun challenge to me! Knowing I had already done a speed workout I figured I would wait until Wednesday and treat it as a tempo run. I ended up running 2.81 miles and felt good!
Easy Treadmill Runs
After my strength workouts on Tuesday and Thursday I did both of my easy runs on the treadmill. They weren’t too bad but I will be happy to be able to do stroller runs again. Before my stroller broke I would usually lift early and then run with Grayson when he woke up. Trying to squeeze in strength and a run before he gets up is challenging!
Staying Positive
It just feels like it’s one thing after another these days. After starting the new year feeling hopeful, I got an E-mail at the beginning of the week that I could register to get the vaccine through work. I signed up for this Saturday. A few days later I found out they made a mistake and I am not yet eligible.
I was actually feeling a little guilty about it because it seems like there are so many other people who should be able to get it before me. Surprisingly, it sounds like many people here are choosing to not get it (other healthcare professionals). As a counselor who is not even directly seeing patients anymore (I work in an administrative role) and can work from home, I feel like I can keep myself pretty safe these days. My husband was able to get the first dose 2 weeks ago, since he works more directly in a healthcare setting.
All the back and forth about it, plus hearing how many people were declining it, just added to the emotions of last week. At this point we just have to try to stay positive and hope that better days are coming.
Run Happy Team 2021
Let’s end this with some good news! I’m excited to be starting my second year with the Brooks Run Happy Team! We found out in mid-December and just got to share the news and “meet” our other teammates this week. I’m excited for another fun year with Brooks! Being on the team last year was really a highlight of an otherwise rough year.
The other good news of the week was we got our replacement stroller! We took it out on Sunday and it felt so much better than the old one. I bet the piece that was messed up on had been wearing down for awhile, but I didn’t notice it until it became really significant. I just blamed the tougher runs on Grayson getting bigger!

I’m linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Run Down!
Congrats on another year of Run Happy! I won’t lie, I was hugely disappointed not to be chosen. Oh well, I will continue to run happy!
I haven’t seen as many people declining the vaccine but one of my medical assistants is waiting. Hopefully, now that all of us have gotten both doses without incident, she’ll sign up.
I’m sorry you weren’t chosen! It would have been so fun to have you as a part of the team! Definitely keep running happy. I think alot of people here are waiting too. I’m not sure if they can just get it after they pass up their spot or what. I heard a stat that like 50% of the healthcare professionals from the university medical system we work for declined it.
I’ve been pretty surprised by the people who won’t get the vaccine, especially healthcare workers. I am not a big vaccine person, I have to admit, but I plan to get it when I’m eligible — but I don’t expect that to be for months.
Hurray for the new stroller — even better that it feels so much better.
Also high five on being back on Brooks’ Team!
I was definitely hesitant about it, but after doing some research and knowing what we know about COVID I would rather get the vaccine. I just hope we learn more about possible transmission to others since my son won’t be able to get it for a long time.
I am really excited to be on the team with you! Your year of running is off to a strong start. Have a great week ahead
At least running is off to a strong start, while it feels like the rest of the world is falling apart!
Awesome job on that 20:21 challenge, how fun! Congrats on being on the Brooks team again, you’re a great ambassador for them! Huge Brooks girl myself, though I was sad to see the Ravennas are officially done 🙁 I know the Launch GTS 8’s are supposed to essentially be the same, and I was already transitioning to the Glycerin, but still sad to see “my” shoe leaving.
That’s too bad! I LOVED the pureflows for years but I just haven’t been as comfortable in the newer models. But I tried the Glycerins this year and I love them, along with the Levitates and Hyperion Tempos.
Big congrats on year #2 with Brooks!!! Shoot, I saw your 20:21 post and was going to do that…and forgot LOL. Maybe I’ll remember this week, though I’m not really ready to test the foot on speedwork just yet.
You have over 11 more months to do the 20:21 challenge! 🙂
Wow on the speedwork – that is speedy! Congrats on another year with Brooks – I sure have been loving my Adrenaline and Ravenna this year. So glad the new stroller feels better.
Interesting on the vaccine. I don’t think my turn will come until they get to the general population.
It’s been interesting to hear how different places are rolling it out. I work for the University of Maryland so since they are such a huge institution they have alot of vaccines to distribute. I’ll be later on the list of employees there, but still before most of the general population I think.
Congratulations on making the Run Happy squad again! I love Brooks sneakers and their ambassador programs seems amazing.
Sorry to hear about the mix up with the vaccine but hope that you’ll be able to get it soon. I don’t anticipate being able to get mine until the summer so I’m just patiently waiting!
So glad that you got your replacement stroller!
Honestly I would be ok waiting for the vaccine if I continue WFH and I know other people who need it more than me are getting it. But when it’s my turn I will get it because I don’t want to miss my chance.
Congrats on making the Brooks team! I’ve been hearing so many great things about the new Launch and just as soon as I put some more miles on my current shoes I’ll be trying them out.
I wore the Launch years ago but haven’t had a pair in awhile! I’ve been thinking about adding them back into the rotation but I probably have enough running shoes for now…
Kudos to you for being back on the Brooks team.
And yes, the longest week ever.
Running was fine… I got outside for all of them. That makes me happy.
My hubby got his vaccine. I can’t wait to get mine.
Glad your husband was able to get his! I feel better knowing mine got it since he is in a healthcare setting every day. It will be nice though when we both have both doses, although it won’t change too much about how we got about our day to day lives.
Congrats on your return to the Brooks team! They made a great pick! That’s great your new stroller arrived. I don’t know anyone who has refused the vaccine. I know we won’t be eligible for quite some time.
I think alot of people just want to wait to get it. I was just surprised that so many people in clinical settings seeing patients didn’t want it ASAP.
Congrats on being on the Brooks Run Happy team for another year! That is so cool!
That’s great that your new stroller is so much easier to push and that it wasn’t just Grayson getting bigger. Up to what weight can it handle him?
Hope this week is easier for you. I’m hoping my mom can get her vaccination soon!
Thule says it can hold up to 75 pounds!! I’m sure we will stop running with him in there long before he reaches that weight. He’s just over 30 pounds now and just turned 2…maybe we will use it for like 2 more years if we’re lucky!
Yay for Run Happy and yay for a new stroller!
I am SO far down the vaccine list, it’s not even funny. I would like for A and Mr PugRunner to get theirs when it’s available to them for not-so-strong lungs and high blood pressure respectively.
Maybe next week will be better?
Hopefully your family can get it soon! And let’s hope for a better week.
Congrats on returning to the Brooks Team! I love Brooks shoes!
So glad your new stroller arrived 🙂
Thank you! I’m glad it arrived too. It will be nice to get out of the house more again.
Congrats on being on the team again! I loved following along on the fun activities you did last year.
Bummer on the vaccine. I am still waiting to be notified. I am not sure what the holdup is or what is going on but at this point they should just let everyone that wants to get the vaccine to get it. Why wait? The sooner we can get vaccinated, the sooner many of us can feel better. Not that a vaccine will make you feel better but I think you know what I mean. 🙂
Thank you! Yea, at least here I don’t think they have the capacity to offer it to everyone yet which is why they are slowly rolling it out to priority groups. And I guess as they keep going they will have a better idea of how long it will take to get it out to everyone.
Congrats on making the team again Lisa!
my husband and I will get the vaccine sometime between April and September… yep we have to wait that long. We are in category not old and no underlying illnesses and not even remotely in health care. I really want to see my parents this year; I hope that I’ll really get it before September.
i just take things day by day. That’s the only way for me to “stay” positive. So many frustrating and sad things going on. I have to constantly re-set.
I hope you can get it sooner rather than later! It’s good that you are low-risk but that also works against you in this case.
Congrats on the Run Happy gig again! I have seen a lot of my friends on FB getting the vaccine. I haven’t really heard of anyone not getting it in my circle of friends. It has been a challenging week. Wow, speedy fast on that 20:21 run! Good job!
Thank you! Yes most of the people I “know” are getting it (including people on social media). I have just heard that alot of people are declining it, but honestly I haven’t seen any actual data so I don’t know how true that actually is!
Yay for being on the Brooks team! I always think about applying for those, but I wear so many brands and I don’t know if I could commit to wearing only one brand of shoes for a whole year haha.
I’m of the opinion that if people don’t want to get the vaccine they should be the ones to quarantine. I’m so over this not being able to travel stuff and I really want to get back to normal. I’d take it tomorrow if I could but I’m also not eligible yet so I guess I have to wait and be patient (which is NOT my strong suit haha).
I know what you mean about wanting to wear other brands! But whenever I’ve tried anything other than Brooks I always end up going back to them. So I know they are my #1 brand!
I agree with you about people who don’t want the vaccine. Unfortunately alot of the people who don’t want it are probably the same people who don’t take it very seriously.
