Just like that Christmas is over and we are almost to 2021! It was a very quiet Christmas around here. I’m still backing off my mileage for now but I got in some good workouts this week. Let’s talk about Christmas week 2020.
Weekly Rundown: Christmas Week 2020
Monday: Strength Training and 20 Minutes Spinning
Tuesday: 4 Treadmill Miles + Core/Glutes
Wednesday: Strength Training + Mobility
Thursday: 7 Miles with 5 x 5 Minutes Hard/2 Minutes Easy
Friday: 3.2 Miles
Saturday: Rest Day
Sunday: 5 Miles
Strength Training
As I’ve been running less I’ve really been focusing more on strength. I’ve been increasing weights when I can and the workouts I’m doing this month feel really tough. I’ve been sore after my workouts the past 2 weeks. Recently I’ve been working on deadlifts with a heavy bar (previously I was focusing on getting my form down with RDLs) and between those and leg curls on the ball my legs are toast, in a good way.
Interval Run
I followed my medium interval workout that I shared last week but did 5 sets of 5 minutes hard, 2 minutes easy at around my half-marathon pace. It probably wasn’t a great idea to do this the day after those deadlifts I just talked about! But the weather was finally cooperating and I had an itch to do a slightly longer/harder workout than what I’ve been doing lately.
Indoor Workouts
On Tuesday I did 4 treadmill miles, and they went by pretty quickly! I also got back on my spin bike after lifting on Monday. I was going to do the same on Wednesday but I ran out of time. I still haven’t gotten my stroller fixed so I am happy to have these options right now.
Christmas Week
Other than working out, we did alot of baking this week! Grayson and I made 3 batches of cookies and cinnamon rolls. Considering it was just the 3 of us this week, it was way too much! The cinnamon rolls came out good but they were alot of work. I figured we could eat them Christmas morning while opening gifts. Rob and I did, but Grayson wouldn’t even try them. I froze a bunch so they didn’t go to waste.
Holiday Celebtrations
Between Grayson’s birthday on 12/15 and now Christmas, it’s been an exciting couple of weeks for him. He loves opening gifts and is now a pro at it. We let him open everything and then I put a bunch of his toys away in our storage room to give him a few months from now. I did the same thing last year and it was nice to be able to pull out a new toy in June when he was totally over his older ones.
We also did a lot of Facetiming and Zooming this week. It was weird to not see anyone or travel for the holidays this year but it also felt a little more relaxing than usual. Hopefully next year will look a little more normal!

This was the first year (in like forever LOL) that I did hardly any baking. I made a big batch of kringla (a Norwegian soft pretzel cookie…of sorts), but not until Christmas Eve afternoon. With no potlucks or “goodie” days at work, as well as no big gatherings with extended family, that was an easy thing to cut back on this year. I bet Grayson enjoyed being your assistant baker!

He liked helping with the baking but had a short attention span. It got tough when he wanted to move onto something else and there was still baking to be done!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Those cinnamon rolls look AMAZING! Yum! but yes, a lot of work.
I think a lot of people are realizing how much less stressful the holidays could be, but I’m also guessing people will want to go full out next year!
Sounds like you had a good Christmas & a good week of workouts, too. Nice job!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think having most of our family out of state makes it hard. We like seeing everyone but it becomes exhausting to travel over the holidays.

Christmas with a 2 yr old is a special time. Glad he helped you bake! The kids baked here but they still have raw cookie dough left I’m going to freeze, because yes, it’s all too much for just us. Way to change up the workouts! I love me some heavy weights
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Baking 3 kinds of cookies sounded like a good idea until I realized just how many cookies that is! I think I’m over them at this point lol.
Darlene S Cardillo says
Just a very dull holiday this year.
Love your holiday running shoes.
Zero baking since I didn’t go to any parties or have anyone over. We would have eaten them all ourselves.
This was a good running week. So there’s that.
Happy New Year!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Glad you had a good running week! We are eating all the cookies ourselves and unfortunately will probably be getting rid of a bunch because we won’t finish them before they go bad.

I love those Brooks! I still have ingredients for monkey bread, but didnt’ make it after my son decided not to spend the night. Maybe for New Year’s. Great idea on saving some presents for later. My kids always got way too much!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think we will always need to plan to set some gifts aside since his bday is 10 days before Christmas. It’s hard when he gets everything all at once!
Deborah Brooks says
Way to keep up your activity on a busy week. Happy birthday to Grayson he sure does look happy in all of your photos. A super fun age too! Merry Christmas to you all
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thanks! It was a good week!

I had cut way back on the holiday baking this year. The problem is that there are certain treats that I like, such as eggnog fudge and lemon bars, that the rest of the family doesn’t eat. In the past it was no problem to take the extras to work but this year it was either skip it or say goodbye to fitting into my jeans, so here we are. I’ve really been enjoying the weights lately as well.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I am starting to regret baking as much as I did, but oh well! It was fun. And I’m only wearing leggings and sweats these days lol.

I love that Grayson helped you with baking 🙂 Everything looked amazing, especially those cinnamon rolls!
Awesome job with your workouts this week, and I love those Brooks Christmas sneakers!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Thank you! The shoes were fun to have this year. And it will be nice to have them again for next year!
Wendy says
I definitely did too much baking, but fortunately, my youngest wasn’t too sick to eat a lot of it! We sent a pack of cookies over to my FIL as well. I miss Christmas with the little ones–it was always so special. But now is ok too!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It was so much more fun this year with Grayson compared to last year. I think next year will be even better.
Jessie says
Wow, those cinnamon rolls look amazing!
What a smart idea with his toys – We do something similar with the dogs, haha! I put toys away for a few months and then they think they are new. It works!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Haha yes such a good trick!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
We did the same amount of baking. No complaints here that we have too many cookies! 🙂 I make a coffee cake that has cherries and chocolate in it for Christmas. It’s soooo good. Good idea about putting some toys away!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Oh that sounds really good! Too bad alot of our cookies will get wasted because they will go bad before we eat them all.
Cari says
Love your festive look
What a great way to delay gifts – I joked to my b rother that USPS was helping him with that since some of the kids’ stuff is late.
Congrats on a solid week.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Haha thats so true about USPS! I guess most of our stuff came through UPS and wasn’t too delayed.
Zenaida Arroyo says
So cute that your son helped you bake. It was a low key day for us here on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas Day we had leftovers. 🙂
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Sounds like a relaxing way to spend the holiday!
Michelle D. says
I love that Grayson baked with you 🙂 We did way too much baking for just us – I’m just hoping my boys will polish off the cookies before my sweet tooth gets the better of me!
You’re so smart to save some of his new toys for later!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
We’ve already eaten way too many cookies. I think I’m actually over them at this point!
Jenn says
I was planning to make cinnamon rolls, but A wanted French toast casserole, so that was that. we did some baking, but not too much. We could have managed more. 🙂
Great idea about putting some toys away for later. He will definitely appreciate them more. Holidays can be so overwhelming for the kiddos!
I’m sorry the stroller isn’t fixed yet!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
French toast casserole sounds great! Maybe I’ll give that a try next year.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Great job on your workouts! I made two batches of cookies and a sausage roll. Most of the cookies are still in the freezer, but they’ll be easy to pull out whenever the kids are over. My sons loved baking with me when they were little. 🙂
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Baking is such a fun activity to do with kids! I think it will be more fun as he gets a little older since right now he gets bored after a few minutes.
