After a long, drawn-out winter, it finally feels like spring is in the air. Or at least it’s trying to make an appearance. I missed out on running outside in any spring-like temps this week but there were definitely warmer days that got me excited for what’s to come.
What I’m not excited about is all the rain the in the forecast. Or the fact that there is still snow showing up on my weather app. I doesn’t seem like it will be anything significant, but still. It’s April so we should definitely be done with winter weather!
Workouts this week were good, but I started some new strength training exercises that left my legs (and whole body) a bit sore. I’ll probably keep the mileage low over the next couple of weeks as I adjust to the workouts. Here’s how the week played out.
Monday: 5 miles
I had to get this done early so I hopped on the treadmill. As I said in my runfessions post, it’s nice to not have to make decisions about where to run or how many layers to wear early in the morning!
Tuesday: Strength training, 3 miles
This was the first week of the next phase of my strength training plan (Phase 6!). I got in a good working and followed it up with 3 easy miles.
Wednesday: 40 minute spinning
My legs were feeling the strength training from the day before. I hopped on the bike and took it pretty easy. It felt good to loosen up my legs!
Thursday: Strength training
Another day of new strength training exercises. I was short on time so just did some foam rolling followed by the workout and called it a day.
Friday: 3 miles
My legs were still fatigued so I kept this short and easy. It always feels good to get in a run on a Friday!
Saturday: 7 miles
I must have missed some of the spring-like weather because it was chilly for this run, but not nearly as cold as it has been over the past few weeks. I think after getting a taste of spring throughout the week I was hoping for warmer weather, but when I woke up my phone said 32 degrees. Not terrible, but not quite shorts and t-shirt weather yet either.
Sunday: Rest
As I said, this was a good week of workouts. I think it’s good to have these strength training workouts that challenge me and also force me to cut back my mileage every few weeks. I noticed that whenever I start a new phase my mileage drops, with makes sense. Hopefully once I have adjusted to these workouts and am ready to add some mileage it will feel even more like spring!

How were your workouts last week?
Has it felt like spring where you live?
Do you cut back on mileage when adding in new strength training exercises?
Great week of workouts! The weather was awesome for my runs this weekend and I didn’t have to wear 3 layers of clothing, lol
PS- I laughed to myself when I read the title of your post and I drove to work in a few inches of snow today, and it’s still snowing, lol
Ugh I cant believe so many places are getting snow again today! At one point we were supposed to get it but it ended up raining instead.
I think that definitely makes sense- your legs are extra tired but then adjust and the miles can go back up. We have snow here this morning, crazy!! Then hopefully spring will come for real.
I really hope this is the end of the snow for this season! It managed to pass us and instead we got rain last night into this morning.
Send some of that spring this way! We had a welcome respite in CA but I’d hoped it’d be more spring-like when we got home. Um nope. It’s a whole 25 degrees today and not supposed to get out of the 30’s all week. I love how you’re sticking to your strength routine! I think it’s paying off!
I just feel like the weather is all over the place! One minute I think spring is here and the next its cold again. Hopefully it will stick around for good soon!
My legs were definitely tired after getting back to CrossFit. I do keep my mileage fairly low, so I just adjust my pace accordingly. I heard the s-word in the forecast too. As much as I try to stay positive, this weather is starting to get to me.
It’s really just been a never-ending winter!
It’s currently snowing in New Jersey so spring doesn’t really feel like it’s in the air for me…
Luckily I got some shorts and t shirt runs in last week which felt awesome. I’m really hoping it gets warmer quick for me. Have a great Monday!
The weather really has been all over the place! I also hope it warms up for good very soon.
This past weekend it was chilly here as well. But this week it is suppose to get really nice and stay nice! You must be exhausted at night after getting up so early to get workouts in then working all day! Great job!
It does look like the temps will be a little better so thats good, I’m just not excited about all the rain!
I am such an early riser that running early isn’t a big deal for me. I just end up exhausted by 8pm!
I ended up skipping my run last Tuesday since I’d had a pretty good total body workout on Monday. There wasn’t any one spot that was sore, but there were multiple spots talking a little bit. I thought some deep stretching yoga would be better.
That sounds like it was a good plan!
We are supposed to have a lot of rain this week too. I am just hoping the snowflake in the forecast for race day goes away!
Yes I hope so too! I’m thinking at this point it’s too late in the year for any kind of snow to stick.
Great week of workouts! I definitely keep my strength exercises the same when I’m upping my mileage or training for a race, because I’m nervous about being sore. Spring is here – we’ve had so much sunshine!
I’m jealous of your weather! It’s definitely smart to keep strength workouts the same as running workouts get harder.
Great week of workouts! Our weekend definitely felt more like spring, but not quite shorts weather yet! I’ve been running only 3 days a week right now and it’s really been working for me 🙂
That’s great that the 3 days a week of running is working so well for you! It seems like the weather is very slowly starting to improve.
It snowed like 4 or 5 inches this morning! How crazy is that and where is spring?!
So crazy! We had some warnings about snow but it ended up being all rain.
No, it does not look nor feel remotely like spring. Well, I guess I noticed my daffodils and tulips are starting to emerge from the muddy ground…. 😉 I guess there’s that LOL
Every time I start to think spring is here then the temps drop and I question it again. I think last week was just a tease!
Sounds like a great week! Hope it warms up soon! Spring is somewhat here with warmer temps but wish it wouldn’t rain as much.
I’m definitely not looking forward to all the rain we are supposed to get!
Hope spring arrives for real for you soon. 🙂
Thanks! Me too.
Yeah Saturday was super confusing, but so nice to run outside. And of course the last two days have been treadmill since we had accumulating snow this week. Spring is, apparently, a myth. I’m so sad we’re likely going to have snow for cherry blossoms.
It’s very frustrating that it’s still been so chilly/snowy this late in the year! I think I jinxed myself by saying it was starting to feel like spring.
Great workout week! It definitely has been feeling like spring here (although we’ll get some more rain this weekend)…
I guess the rain is just a part of spring. Although some warm sunshine would definitely make it feel more like spring!
It looks like a solid week of running for you, whether inside or out. It’s nice you’ve got a cycling option and a treadmill option to choose from. I hope you are enjoying some lovely spring weather this week! Thanks for linking.
Unfortunately winter decided to return this week. But again, it’s definitely nice to have indoor workout options!
