I hope that all of you who celebrated Thanksgiving had a great day with lots of good food! It’s so nice to have a Friday off from work to recover from all the eating, right? Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to start thinking about the holidays. Not sure how that’s possible. Last time I checked it was April.
I’m sure none of us are up for anything too serious today, so how about some Runfessions being that it’s the last Friday of the month and all? It just so happens I have 5 of them, so it’s a Friday Five as well. How’s that for efficient;)
Friday Five Runfessions for Thanksgiving Weekend:
1) I am really happy to have a bit more light in the mornings thanks to DST (although it’s going away quickly). However, I actually don’t think I ever really adjusted to the time change. Most mornings I have been waking up without an alarm between 4 and 4:30 since the time change, and am absolutely exhausted by 8-8:30. I don’t hate it, because getting up early means I can get a lot done before work (and I am the most productive in the morning) but Rob keeps reminding me that it’s NOT normal to naturally wake up at 4am every day. Please tell me I’m not the only one!
2) I have to say I was a little bit glad to not be running a race last Sunday when I heard all of that wind. All those runners who raced in Philly are so impressive because I know they had similar weather. I didn’t leave the house all day on Sunday and spent the day in pajamas/yoga pants/sweatpants. (Welcome back to my winter wardrobe…)
3) I bought another pair of running shoes. I don’t think I am going to stop this search until I find the perfect pair. It could take years, but that’s ok. Good thing most of these places have a good return policy.
Just a little side note about running shoes: I found a pair of Pure Connects that I had bought in February as a back up pair. I was thinking about returning them since I haven’t been running in the Pure Connects anymore. When I took them out of the box I realized they were two different sizes! (One was an 8 and the other a 9) That made my decision to return them even easier!
4) I have been trying to start my Christmas shopping (online of course) but I keep finding stuff I like for myself. There are so many fun running gadgets and cute running clothes available! Need to stay focused….
5) Rob is signed up for a May marathon and asked me to make him a training plan. I have to admit, thinking about him training really got me wanting to sign up. But there is no way I am registering until I am 100% sure I could run a marathon. The peer pressure is terrible!

Do you feel pressure to sign up for a race if your spouse/SO/friend/running buddy signs up for something?
How many pairs of running shoes do you own?
What time do you wake up naturally without an alarm?
I’m linking up Marcia for Runfessions and Fairytales and Fitness and Running On Happy for the Friday Five 2.0!
and this is why we are friends and why you are one of my most favorite blogs – because we are so alike! lol. I am up early without an alarm my whole life and lately I am up way too early and spend my time trying to force myself back to sleep! you know I love the early morning sunlight for running and I am noticing it tick away. ugh. I am most productive in the morning too, really, the earlier the better. and, black Friday deals have been all for me. I keep forgetting I need a few Hanukkah gifts for others!
I can’t believe how quickly the mornings are getting dark again. It’s gonna be a long winter! Either way I am still up and so productive in the mornings, and I guess that doesnt change with the darkness. Glad Im not the only one!
wait! I meant to say, have you tried the energy boosts yet? I can’t remember but you know I love them.
I haven’t! Maybe I will look into those next.
Finding the perfect pair of running sneakers is hard! I loved the Mizuno Wave Inspire 10s so much that I bought 4 pairs when they were on sale. Mizuno is now on version 13 of this sneaker, but I am luckily still able to wear the 10s!
Oh that worked out really well for you! I really liked the Pureflows until they started changing the model, plus they were a little too narrow for me. I have only tried on one pair of Mizunos, and I don’t even know which ones they were, but they felt a little too heavy for me. I’m sure there are other models though that could work if I give them a try!
How fun that your hubs runs? I have no pressure from mine, unless you count him tempting me with steak the night before a big run!
I thought it was just me–I’m still waking up before my alarm goes off. Ugh…
Nope I am definitely still on the wrong time. But I prefer waking up naturally without an alarm, so I guess it works out well, even if its a crazy early time of day.
I’m slowwwwwwly getting Alex to believe that he can run further and further. I don’t think he’ll ever get to marathon status, but that is ok. I would love for him to do a half, though!
When Rob and I started dating in 2005 he told me I would never get him to run:) I never really pushed it on him, but i think he just saw how awesome it is. He ran his first 5k in 2011 and first marathon in 2013.
I don’t really give in to race peer pressure unless it’s a small-ish race like a 5k and then i’m like “why not”!
I wish you luck on your quest to find the right shoes! I know how hard that can be.
5ks are much easier to just jump into at the last minute!
My husband tells everyone I have 50 pairs of running shoes. He’s lying. 😉 I can’t believe there were two different sizes in that box. I probably would not have noticed and run in them! I usually wake up around 4:30 as well and feel like a zombie by mid afternoon. I wish I could sleep late. What a luxury!
I was wondering if someone else got the other set of my different sized running shoes! Hopefully they also noticed, it would probably be annoying if you started running only to realize later that they were different sizes.
I am trying to convince Ryan to sign up for a race, knowing full well that when he does I’ll sign up also! I wake up before my alarm most days but now that it’s so dark again in the mornings my sleep is adjusting.
That would be fun if you and Ryan could do a race together! I keep thinking I will eventually adjust to the darker mornings but it just hasn’t happened yet.
I have been slowly getting back on track concerning the time change, but end up waking up early anyway. It’s just the way I’m wired.
Same here!
Hmmmm – “peer pressure” to join a race? More like “getting overly excited and not wanting to miss out” – that has happened before! But being a race ambassador for our local marathon I hope people do join along because they don’t want to miss out 🙂 (it’s kinda my job! haha)
Wow, 4am is pretty early! Can’t say that I wake up quite that early, but I’m up by 7am when I don’t have to work and I don’t mind that. Waking up early helps me be productive.
Have you tried Newtons yet? I’m a huge fan!
I have heard lots of good things about the Newtons but havent tried them! I am intrigued, but really at a loss for what my feet need. I have always tried to keep my shoes and minimal as I can handle but I am thinking with the injury I had this year that for right now I need some more support until I can build my strength back up.
I keep coming up with more ideas for me, but I’m now creating a birthday list since we’re so close to Christmas. I’m getting ready to purchase the rest of the Christmas gifts, so I’ll be able to stop shopping.
I hope I can get all my shopping done soon so I can just be done with it! Thats such a good feeling.
There’s no pressure to sign up for anything from the Caveman but I could definitely see the temptation if somebody’s training right under your nose like that. My doggie is my alarm. Lots of times he’s up at 4:30. If not it’s 5:30 and that works just fine. I’ve bought a couple things for others and some (ok 4) things for me.
Luckily Robs version of training is not at all like mine…he really needs me to motivate him to get him out the door. It will probably be much harder for him to train for a marathon on his own than it will be for me to watch him train.
Peer pressure is totally terrible. Unless it’s about running races. Then it’s more fun than terrible. 🙂
Very true! Well, except when you *know* you shouldn’t race because of a recent injury…
I have awful FOMO (check out my Friday Five 2.0 post LOL). For some reason, I hate being left out of running things!
I own two pair of Brooks Adrenalines, two pair of Mizuno Wave Inspires, one pair of Mizuno Wave Catalysts for running. Then, for my job at a running store, I own NB 860, Adidas Energy Boosts and Sequences, two other pairs of Inspires and a pair of Altra Insights. I may have a problem. 😉
I definitely agree with the FOMO of running things…I always have to remind myself that I have plenty of more years of running so there is no reason to do it all right now!
I’ve been struggling with finding a lot of things I want to buy for myself, too! I haven’t been as good as you at restraining myself though. So much guilt! One thing I haven’t bought though is shoes. I have to say that I’ve wanted to, but I don’t want to mess up a good thing!
When you find a running shoe that works it makes sense to stick with it! It is kind of nice though to try different brands and compare whats out there.
DST has me off a bit and I am up a bit earlier that I want to for sure…but I force myself back to sleep. 4/4:30 is too early for me!
I am trying to stay off he sites that would distract me ….lol!!! Gotta stay focused on the kiddies!!
I use to get easily persuaded to run races but not much any more.
That wind/cold last Sunday was serious for sure! I stayed in all day too in a onsie and sweatshirt!!
My problem is I wake up early and then my mind starts going…and from there I just can’t fall back to sleep!
I am impressed with the Philly runners as well. We lifted that Sunday because it was just way too windy out! I think the waking up at 4 thing is all relative. What time do you normally get up? I feel like you probably get up pretty early to begin with, so it’s prob only like 1-1.5 hrs earlier than normal? That’s not so bad. I mean, four is freaking early, but hopefully soon your body will crave sleep and let you sleep until at least 5!
During the week I was getting up between 4:30 and 5. But now I wake up naturally between 4 and 4:30 without an alarm, even on the weekends…the latest I have slept in the past few weeks is 5. So I guess its not that much earlier than usual but I used to be able to sleep until 6 on the weekends!
I have been rising and shining (so to speak) at 4:30ish most mornings for the past few months. The bulk of my training runs were done in the wee dark hours. Since the time change, I’ve been waking even earlier (technically, still the “same” time, but showing an hour earlier on the clock). My marathon was last weekend, so I have no need to be getting up so early….but old habits die hard. Crazy, huh!
I can definitely relate- thats what happened to me! I never woke up in the 4:00 hour until I was marathon training and had to get up at 4/430 to get my runs in. Once i got use to it I realized it made sense to just be an early riser because I am so productive in the mornings. I used to be able to sleep until 6 not the weekends but not lately!
This morning I woke up without an alarm at 9:30am. IF ONLY I could get up that time every single day I would be so happy 😀
There are so many running things I want right now too. I’m trying to stay focused on house stuff as that’s much more pressing right now, but I may order one of those FlipBelt water bottles!
You deserve to buy something for yourself after all the hard work you have done lately! Plus, Im sure you can always use a water bottle in Florida!
I’ve been thrown off since DST too. On the weekends I sleep later and I seem tired by 8:30 pm!
My boyfriend runs but doesn’t take his training too seriously, so really I’m the bad influence!
I am definitely the bad influence in our house! (even if Im not training!)
