The Countdown to Christmas

I can’t believe Christmas is only 3 weeks away. Honestly I feel like I’ve been stuck in March all year and it’s just the slowest year ever. It’s crazy to think of all that has happened this year, yet I feel like I didn’t do anything! Now that we’ve turned the calendar to December the countdown to Christmas is really on.

Now that it is December the countdown to Christmas is really on. And with that comes cold weather and windy runs! Here is a rundown of my workouts last week.

Weekly Run Down: The Countdown to Christmas

  • Monday: 7 Treadmill Miles + Core
  • Tuesday: Strength Training + 4.3 Treadmill Miles
  • Wednesday: 7 Miles
  • Thursday: Strength Training + 4 Miles
  • Friday: Rest Day
  • Saturday: 12 Miles (6 Treadmill, 6 Outside)
  • Sunday: 3.7 Stroller Miles + Core

Total= 38 Miles

Winter Weather

I guess the theme of this week is that winter weather arrived here. It wasn’t that much colder than it’s been this fall, but we had some serious wind and lots of rain. Of course those factors are not ideal for running.

On Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday I bundled up Grayson and we got outside for stroller runs. We didn’t spend much time outside the rest of the week because of the weather and my work schedule. By the time I’m done working and he is up from his nap it’s already practically dark out!

I also ran on the treadmill a few times. I’ve been having a harder time with it this year than usual. I can handle the monotony, but I feel like I’m changing my stride or something and it gets uncomfortable. I wish I could figure out what’s happening because this has never happened before and I think I am going to need it this winter

Half and Half Long Run

On Saturday I was planning to run 12 miles but when I woke up it was pouring rain out. It was also in the 30s and very windy. I started my run on the treadmill and after an hour I just couldn’t take it anymore. I did a quick change and got outside for the second half of my run. The rain had stopped so it was just windy. It would have been rough to do the full 12 outside.

Run Merry

Did you see my Christmas shoes in that last pic? Brooks came out with these fun Revel 4s and I couldn’t help myself. I had never tried them before and I like them alot! The remind me of the Levitates with a little more cushioning. How many miles do you think I’ll put on them before Christmas?

The Countdown to Christmas

I think at this point I have about 50% of my holiday shopping done. I need to finish that up and the start wrapping everything! Oh and let’s not forget that there is a little boy who lives here celebrating his 2nd birthday in just over a week! So that means extra gifts to wrap!

Work Update

Last time I shared a Weekly Run Down I mentioned how my whole system for work was down due to a ransomware attack. Well, we are back up and running for the most part. Early last week we were told how to check our laptops to see if they were affected. Now we have access again to most of our programs and files, but a large portion of what I do is not available, so it’s been a little frustrating. I’m trying to embrace the slower period right now before everything gets back up and I’m busier than ever trying to catch up!

I had to stop and look at my calendar but yep it is 3 weeks. I am more excited because I will be off for Winter Break. I saw those shoes and they’re so cute! But I am doing my best not to buy any more shoes. I was very tempted to get the purple Ghost shoes that came out a few weeks ago. Your little boy is adorable!

Thank you! I know, I have way too many shoes right now. No more for awhile!!

Wow, happy birthday Grayson! I can’t believe he’s going to be 2! What will you do to celebrate?

I definitely change my stride on the TM–it’s so weird. I suppose if I ran on it more, it would help. Nah…

I think for his bday we are hoping to have my parents over if the weather is ok so we can be outside. We got some decorations and will eat cake of course. It won’t be anything big but I’m sure he will be excited just to be getting presents!

Truthfully, three weeks from now Christmas will be over! How can that be??? I do love those Brooks – so festive! I hope your work is fully operational soon.

happy birthday to Grayson! Wow he has gotten so big and super cute. Such a fun age! It’s great that he is still willing to go into the stroller. My son would just climb right out at that age and want to run around. Enjoy this time it goes by so fast!

I think at this point he knows its part of the routine so he cooperates in there for a limited amount of time. Our straps are pretty tight and so far he can’t escape:)

Awwe, happy birthday to Grayson! He’s such a cutie.

I totally feel the same way about Christmas. I know it’s right around the corner but it my mind just isn’t in the holiday spirit this year.

      December 6, 2020 at 3:46 pm

It’s hard to really get in the holiday spirit! I’m trying but I know this year won’t be the same at all.

Love the Christmas Brooks! So fun.

I think your ransomware work incident made national news, right? I thought I heard about it on NPR.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 6, 2020 at 3:47 pm

It probably did! It was a pretty big deal and we are a really large school district. I think it’s important for other districts to know how to prevent this from happening.

I know the treadmill messes with my stride/gait and my mental well being LOL For me, I think it’s the repetitiveness of running with no changing terrain, but my hips always feel a lot of strain if I run further than 3-4 miles. That’s all well and good, because my mind cannot handle anything longer anyways. Thankfully, we’ve had nice weather (by Iowa standards) in recent weeks, so I haven’t had to run on the ‘mill.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 6, 2020 at 3:48 pm

I’m sure the repetitiveness has something to do with it. I try to change the incline alot and I think that helps a little. I also think I either shorten or lengthen my stride- not sure which lol!

Omg 2! That sure came up fast! Enjoy the celebration. II swear Brooks makes the most fun shoes. Wish they’d work for me.
Glad to hear the ransomware nightmare is mostly over. Computer scams/hacking etc are horrible.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 6, 2020 at 3:49 pm

I can’t believe he’s going to be two already! It sure did go by quickly.
Thanks- the hacking situation has obviously been even trickier right now when everything is virtual!

Our weather has been about the same as yours which was mostly okay for running, but too cold for early morning cycling outside.

I’m glad things are back up and running safely for your work. Hopefully, you’ll be back to 100% soon so you don’t get so far behind.

Wow, Grayson is almost two. I love that age for little boys! 😀

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 6, 2020 at 7:28 pm

Yes, its a very fun age right now! I’m also starting to see some of those terrible two meltdowns start to happen as well:)

    December 6, 2020 at 4:38 pm

Our weather was a lot like yours, only colder. At least we escaped the snow! Very grateful for that.

So weird about how you’re feeling on the treadmill. I hope you figure that out soon!

Being Jewish, I get to sit back & relax (mostly) after Thanksgiving is done. 🙂 We don’t exchange gifts anyway!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 6, 2020 at 7:29 pm

I’m glad we haven’t had any snow yet! I do want some snow this year, but I’m not ready for it just yet. Hope you enjoy the downtime now that Thanksgiving is over!

Happy 2nd to Grayson! I am with you on the treadmill. There is just something “different” about it that takes time to adjust to. In a normal year I would have to start running on the TM in September b/c of the dark, but now because of the weather it’s going to be my fitness home for weekdays (and sadly a few weekends if it’s icy) from here on out.

The shoes are very tempting, and so is the sale on Launches. I truly do not need new shoes right now but I am so tempted.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 6, 2020 at 7:30 pm

I hope that as I run on the treadmill more that it gets more comfortable. It’s very convenient to have, even though it’s not my favorite way to run!

Glad you made the best of yesterday’s horrible weather. I was still in post-travel quarantine and didn”t mind one bit.

Let me add my birthday wishes to Grayson.
The weather here has been almost ideal; mostly cold and still (with some rain). I hope this continues as I realised at the weekend I am on 1093 miles, and being a runner I OBVIOUSLY need to make it a round 1200 for the 12 months. So good running weather until the end of the year would be most welcome. 🙂

      December 7, 2020 at 7:09 pm

Good luck with your mileage! And I hope the weather cooperates for you!

The holidays are so fun when you have kids at home. Mine are grown…can’t wait for a grandson (coming in May!!)

I decorated. No big deal. But I just can’t get in the spirit to buy any gifts.

Our weather has been rainy and then yesterday was COLD!!

I got my runs in (and got wet) and the best part was a real race and one in NYC!!!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      December 7, 2020 at 7:10 pm

Congrats on expecting a grandson! That will definitely make the holidays more fun. We were able to go to an outdoor mobile Santa this weekend so it was nice to do a little something even in this crazy year.

I just love your new Brooks – so fun!

And Grayson’s almost two?! Wow did the time go by fast! I hope he has a great birthday 🙂

You are so great about getting out on that treadmill. I don’t think I would have the same dedication.

I am mostly done shopping. There are a few things I still need to snag but it will happen.

it’s freezing here, and that makes it so hard to get out in the morning. Blah.

wow, 2 years old already? That’s a fun age. I mean, clearly still a challenge and they are getting lots of their own opinions, but oh so cuddly 🙂 Hope it’s a great birthday! I do have some xmas shopping done, but I’ve got more to do for sure.

Fall is pretty good too but there’s nothing like Fall is pretty good too but there’s nothing like seeing the sunrise on a morning run! As an early morning riser I would be fine with a 4am sunrise but I know that’s not for everyone so I will just enjoy the 2 months of the year when the sun is up (almost) as early as me. #morningrunner #sunriserun
Let them be your reason, not your excuse. I coul Let them be your reason, not your excuse.

I could sit here and tell you how hard it is to train with 2 young kids. How I rarely get a full night’s sleep anymore. How they got me sick the week before my race. How my SI joint just isn’t the same since my pregnancies. But that wouldn’t be fair, because I need to listen to my own advice that I give them about how to keep working hard and that there will always be obstacles to overcome.

After my race on Sunday I was thinking about how my Kindergartner has been working for a special award all year long. Many times he has told me he just wants to give up, because he works so hard for months at a time and still hasn’t earned it. I keep telling him that if he keeps working hard he will earn it, but what’s most important is that he gives his best each and every day. All those good days add up and even if he doesn’t earn the award, it will mean he had a great year.

Don’t I need to take my own advice and remember that all the good training days add up, even if I don’t get the outcome I want on race day? Before my race he kept telling me to do my best, and that he would give me a prize (artwork) even if I don’t win. So maybe all the lessons I am teaching him are starting to pay off? #motherrunner #halfmarathon #frederickrunfest
I can pretty much see the humidity as I look back I can pretty much see the humidity as I look back on these videos. After a few days to process my race I am feeling better about how it went and starting to focus on what’s next. I guess it’s officially time to acclimate to the heat and humidity because it’s not getting cooler any time soon! My full recap is up at milebymileblog.com
