I feel like most of the random stuff I am going to share today is pretty obvious, and nothing special, but since it’s on my mind I figured I would share it anyway!
1. Coming back from vacation is hard. And I think the longer the vacation, the longer it takes to get back into the swing of things. This week work has been busy and I’ve been trying to get caught up on blog stuff, so I feel like I’m all over the place. Oh and marathon training started, too.
2. Speaking of marathon training, that’s hard too. But it’s supposed to be, and I knew that. I have only had 2 workouts and they went well and were manageable, but my legs are already a little tired and I am already nervous about my 13 miler at the end of the week.
Hills on Monday, 800s on Wednesday
3. Blogging can be very time consuming. Especially when you take about 5 days off from reading any blogs. I finally got caught up yesterday, but I ended up skimming alot more than I like and didn’t get to comment as much as usual. But no one can do it all, right?
4. Suddenly I am starting to feel like summer is coming to an end, and that makes me sad. I love fall, but this summer went too fast. And since it hasn’t been that hot I haven’t minded it at all! I have loved not worrying about what to wear and all the hours of daylight. Now most mornings when I start my run it’s still dark. At least I usually catch a good sunrise along the way.
5. Shifting gears a little- house hunting is one of the most frustrating things I have ever done, and we are still only at the beginning of the process. We finally saw a house that we like (not like OMG we are in love lets put an offer down right now) but it is the first house in a year and a half that we have even considered. It’s gonna be a long process and makes me feel like renting forever could be the way to go. Except that I need a bigger kitchen. 2 years after our wedding and we still don’t have all of our gifts out, and some are still stored in my parent’s basement.
Thanks, Amanda for another week of Thursdays are for Thinking Out Loud!
Are you feeling sad about summer ending?
Have you bought a house? How long did it take you to find something?
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
Yeah, house hunting is not a 3 house pick one process like on tv. They would love for you to believe that, though. I’m funny about marathon training–there are definitely times when I”m like lala this is sooooo easy only for my body to catch up with me and remind me that I am, in fact, TRAINING FOR A MARATHON HELLO. But then again, what does it know?

Those shows can be deceiving! But when I see them I usually think that they should have more then 3 options…then again maybe it would be easier with less choices!

Omigosh I -hated- househunting, and my realtor was psychotic and once took me to see 15 places in one day. Like… what??! Thankfully it only took me about 2 weeks to find a place, and a lot of that had to do with luck… I had my eye on a building for pretty much as long as I could remember, and one of the condos in it went on the market while I was shopping. I guess it was meant to be 🙂

That worked out great! 15 houses in one day is crazy, though! The most I have seen is 5 and I’m done by the end of that!
Meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
I can’t believe how “not hot” it’s been this summer. Not one heat wave. Crazy. The summer totally flew by, I agree! I was married in 2001 and still have some of the gifts in my parents house if that makes you feel any better.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 13 years after my wedding we are still storing stuff at my parents:)

haha – you make me smile as usual! I lamented coming back from vacation in terms of blog-reading impact. I mean, how can I not read everyone I love in detail and comment? Oh – because I have 250 emails that are ALL blogs?!?! Um … yeah!
Funny thing – I had a harder time coming back in terms of fully adjusting when we took puri whirlwind Boston trip, or even our anniversary long weekend, than I did from our full vacation in NYC. Weird.
And yeah, marathon training is hard … haha
As for summer … I am with Meredith – last night was the 3rd night all summer we used air conditioning when we slept, because of humidity.. It has been in the mid-70s almost all summer as the high temperatures. We haven’t had enough 90+ days to even call it hot, and nothing above 100 at all! Really lousy summer in terms of day-time weather … but nice for me as a runner 🙂
House hunting … for our first house that we bought 20 years ago we got to spend quite a while poking around, and ended up with a house we did tons of work through the years, stayed longer than planned (because of seller dishonesty we had to spend a load of money within the first year … ugh).
Moving to Corning, we basically had a long weekend to do house shopping. I had done a ton of online research, and Corning provides a relocation realtor. So we had already mapped the two towns we were interested in, and the price range (which of course we exceeded in the end) and the stuff that mattered most.
I think house hunting can be both exciting and frustrating. ANd more and more evidence shows it isn’t the ‘investment’ that it used to be. I would be totally open to renting once the kids are grown (Lisa, not so much, but she has only recently come around on the lack of need for a land line, so I still have work to do 🙂 )

Around here this summer weather was pretty good! Highs in the low 80s which I am happy with! And cool enough for the morning runs.
And as for house hunting, it definitely is exciting, but sometimes I just feel like the house we’re looking for in our price range doesn’t exist in the area we want…so the trick is finding the balance of something that will work!

Blogging is HARD to stay on top of, but we’ve discussed that before. I just try to let it slide on the comments and skim the posts so I have an idea of what I’ve missed. It makes coming back and reading posts make more sense usually. It totally does feel like fall here. I don’t know how I feel about it. I love fall so I’m excited, but it scares me that it’s coming so early this year because it means an earlier winter and I’m just not ready for that yet. I’m loving these cooler nights though!

I think that my feelings about summer ending are directly related to my fear of winter coming. I’m not ready for it yet! (And not sure I ever will be!)
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
I can relate to almost all of what you’re saying except the house hunting thing – which I hated so much that I just tried to avoid and let my husband take the lead, although at least some of that had to do with taking two babies with us to look at houses! It really is so frustrating though and a lot is out of your control.
I am normally beyond psyched for fall to come but with the nice weather we’ve been having I’m not in a rush! Plus now there’s lot’s of “back to school” stuff going on with my kids that I’m not quite prepared for. I am so sucked into the blog world lately that I am feeling disconnected from real life!
[email protected] says
The only thing I really care about with the house hunting is the location and the kitchen:) All the other details I try not to worry about!
I really can’t believe its back to school time already. I think the mild weather this summer made it seem that much faster!
[email protected] says
You are so right! I can’t believe summer is almost over. Where did the time go? I am looking forward to my last summer trip where I am going to Va Beach for the half marathon over labor day.
[email protected] says
Have fun on your trip, and good luck in the half marathon!
Leslie @ Life Begins at 30? says
This summer has been great, so I am sad to see it go. I am also training for a race-half marathon though. I’m looking forward to a little cooler weather to make training easier! Good luck on your house hunting!!
[email protected] says
That’s true- weather thats a little cooler can only make running better. I’m just scared for the winter that’s after the nice fall weather!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Girl, I feel you on the blog reading. I got so behind with our vacations it’s not even funny. I literally just had to pick up when I got back and couldn’t go back very much. I think people understand, we’ve all been there right! House hunting was the most stressful thing EVER. I hate looking for a house to buy and we have to do it too often being in the military! No way around it, it sucks!
[email protected] says
I think you’re right that everyone understands about missing blog posts. I think I would rather skim the blog posts I missed so that I would have more time to read the newer posts and leave a more thoughtful comment than if I sat around reading and commenting on 100+ blogs at once.

I could not agree more with the marathon training being hard feeling. I howled when my alarm went off to get up to go to the track and then howled some more when I realized I still have almost three months of this to go. I love to run, but I forgot how draining marathon training is. Definitely can’t wait for the break after it’s done haha, but I know I’ll be happy I put the work in on race day 🙂 Picturing finish line celebrations help with that! And I’m pretty happy summer is almost over, honestly. The ending of it has been rough, and there’s too much I’m looking forward to in the fall to be sad it’s almost here
[email protected] says
All your thoughts about marathon training are so true! It will all be worth it on race day:)
Looking forward to the fall is a great way to stay positive about summer ending!
Nicole@TheGirlWhoRanEverywhere says
Marathon training is so hard!! You are right though–it’s supposed to be ! I for one think you’ll do great on your 13 miler: look how good you did on your12 miler
A couple weeks ago! I think it’s a sign that your legs are ready to run long again

Thanks! Even though 13 is just a little more than 12, I think its the upcoming progression that makes me nervous:)

The one good thing about living in LA (and like, I mean the only good thing) is the weather. Unlike when I lived in canada, I never feel a sense of sadness for fall here as it’s always just sunny and hot. In canada – the first signs of fall would send me spiraling into a pre-winter depression (me no likey the snow).
Hang in there on the house hunting. THe right one will come up.

I am so scared of the pending winter after the one we had on the east coast last year. I think that’s a big part of why I don’t want summer to end!
