Total: 34.5

All of my runs this week were at an easy pace, and while I wore my Garmin to track distance I didn’t worry about how fast or slow I was running. All of my runs except for Tuesday’s were on the beach, which made them more relaxing but I think also a little harder due to running in the sand. All of my runs were completely flat which was nice after last weekend’s hilly race, but I will need to get my legs used to hills again next week.

Tomorrow will be a rest day, and then Monday begins marathon training!

How were your workouts this past week?

Have you ever run on the beach? Do you find it slows you down?

I have run on the beach, and it’s not easy. A wonderful workout for your calves! I had run in bare feet a few times in the past and ended up with a stress fracture to my big toe. The doc told me to refrain from running for about 6 weeks, and he told me if he saw me running he was gonna throw a cast on my foot. I listened to him, but it was difficult to not run. I’m glad you had a good time at the shore with your family, and the yoga class really looked fun too!

Wow a stress fracture in your toe?! That sounds terrible! I had never run barefoot (even on the beach I wear running shoes) and I just don’t know how some people do it! But yes, the sand definitely gave my calves an intense workout!

Awesome week – congrats! Nice to get in those care-free runs every once in a while! I have LOVED seeing the pics on Instagram. And yes – beach running is much harder!

Thanks, Megan! And I’m glad you like the photos! It was definitely nice to run just to run, without any goal or purpose last week- just what I needed before jumping back into training!

Beautiful pictures! I’ve never run on the actual beach before, just the boardwalk. One of my coaches used to have our team do sand workouts, which were basically just laps as fast as we could around a “beach” volleyball court. Only since it’s Arizona we just had a lake by us and no beach haha. I went from being one of the top two runners on the team to the slowest on those days. Running in the sand is no joke!

Wow that sounds really challenging! I’m sure it was a great workout and made you faster on the pavement!

Ahh I miss running near the ocean. I haven’t run ON the beach in a really long time, but I used to do it during the summer at beach volleyball camp in high school, and I could always run faster and jump higher when I got back in the gym!

There is just something about running along the ocean that is so wonderful! The sand is challenging but for me the views are worth it:)

jealous…. of being at the beach. Not so much of running on it!

It was definitely harder to run on the sand but where I was the sand was packed pretty well making it not AS bad as it could have been. I know some of the softer areas of sand would be impossible to run on!

Looks gorgeous! When I’m at the beach I like doing one “sand run” but never more than about six miles. A beach trip wouldn’t be complete without a sand run!

Most years I alternate between sand runs and road runs but for some reason this year I was just really loving the sand. I was glad I took advantage since I can’t get views like that the rest of the year!

I’m jealous of all of your beach running because it just seems like it was the MOST realizing week of running ever! Awesome pre-marathon training, for sure!!

Yes, exactly! I had no idea how much I would end up getting out of those runs!

Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questi Spent almost every step of this 21 mile run questioning my life choices. Like waking up at 3am to run 12 miles on the treadmill and 9 outside. This was a crazy week with a kid that wasn’t sleeping great and fighting a cold and super busy days at work. My legs were just tired the whole time today. It was really hard to run outside after so many treadmill miles and my pace was much slower than inside.

I reminded myself that this is peak week. It’s supposed to feel hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. I ran 53 miles this week and am not injured. The weather is perfect. I’ve gotten in every planned run of this training cycle so far. I get to do this.

And I managed to finish strong with my last 3 miles the fastest of the (outside) run. I owe that to a solid fueling plan and taking all my gels even when I really didn’t want to.

3 weeks to go until race day!

Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by Yesterday’s long run was followed immediately by back to back kid activities, so there was no time to post about it. (I ate breakfast in the car and lunch at soccer practice- it was that kind of a day.) I was kind of nervous going in to this run, especially now that I’m getting down to last few key long runs. I had 16 miles with 4 x 2 miles on the plan, which sounded manageable but also challenging. The weather was perfect and I hit all my paces. At the end I got a little confused- thinking I was at 15 miles but I was actually at 14 🙃 Got home and realized I chafed really bad. Another long run down, and another week closer to race day.

Do you ever psych yourself out before long runs?
