The Big Thaw and Treadmill Arrival

The best way to describe the weather last week is as “The Big Thaw”, which turned out to be only temporary. It felt like such a weird week and I can’t even remember the exact order of events with the weather. When we left off last week it has been in the single digits with wind chills around 0. There was ice on Monday afternoon/evening, it warmed up to 60 degrees on Friday, and there was quite a bit of rain in there too. Now it’s back to being cold again.

Last week the weather finally started to warm up, just in time for my treadmill to arrive. Read about my weekly workouts including lots of treadmill runs! #run #running #treadmill

But who am I to complain about the weather when my treadmill finally arrived?! I ended up doing all my runs after Monday on there for various reasons. One being that I was excited about it and wanted to test it out. It also made sense logistically since I needed to run early and wanted to avoid running in ice, rain, and wind.

I’m actually in Florida for a few days, where it’s warmer, but still chilly in the mornings and evenings (by Florida standards). We are doing Disney with my niece and in-laws, so my blogging time is limited! I’ll be playing catch up later this week.

Anyway, here is what happened last week.

Monday: 4 miles following this 30 minute workout

My only outdoor run of the week. It was 17 degrees and felt amazing because there was no wind! I followed Laura’s workout and then just kept running to hit 4 miles.

monday fartlek
Tuesday: 10 minutes spin bike, Strength Training

I’m still really liking using my spin bike to warm up before workouts. My basement is so cold in the mornings so it feels good to move a little!

Wednesday: 3.8 miles on the treadmill

The treadmill came on Tuesday, and was there when I got home from work. Rob had worked from home while it was delivered and set up and then tested it out, so on Tuesday night he showed me how to use it. There’s still more to learn but the basics are easy enough. (It has iFit which I am still figuring out!)

treadmill run

Thursday: Strength training and 1 mile run

I completed my mobility and strength training work, then did burpees and push-ups, and ran a mile on the treadmill. I was pretty beat after this workout!

thursday workout

Friday: 20 minutes spinning, 20 minutes running, 20 minutes yoga

I know that it will be tempting to skip my cross training now that we have a treadmill, so I made sure to get in some cycling and yoga. This workout went by quickly since I was only doing each activity for 20 minutes. I also did a 2 1/2 minute plank.

friday run

Saturday: 9 miles

I ran this on the treadmill since I had to get it done early. I tested out the iFit which was pretty cool because I got to run down the coast of California. Finished this up with push-ups.

saturday 9 miles

Sunday: Rest with lots of walking around Disney

Glad to hear that your treadmill finally arrived. I wish mine had an Ifit app for it. Have a great time in Disney. There are so many fun things to do there. Hope you have nice weather.

Disney was great! The weather was a little cool but so much better than Maryland.

WHOOO how exciting about the treadmill! I am sure you will log many happy miles on there :).

I feel like I will definitely make good use of it, especially in the winter.

Yeah we had the sub-z to 60 and back again over the course of maybe 48 hours. With rain and ice and today we have a “snow event”. Glad you are loving your mill! Enjoy Florida!

The weather is just all over the place lately! We got back to an inch of snow…not the best way to return after a trip!

Now that I”m done with the Lululemon challenge, I’m considering taking some of my runs to the treadmill. Maybe. Yours looks so nice! I hope you get some good runs in in Florida!

There was no time for running but SO much walking. And at least it was much warmer there!

Ooh! Right now, I wish we had a treadmill lol! We also had the big thaw followed by 6 inches of snow. Looks like we’re getting another thaw this coming weekend….it’s supposed to be 50! Have fun at Disney!!

I think the treadmill will definitely come in handy this winter! I can’t even keep up with the crazy weather we’ve had.

So happy that your treadmill finally arrived!

We had similar weather here in CT. We got a ton of rain on Friday which helped to melt a lot of the remaining snow so that was nice. It made running outside a little easier this weekend.

      January 17, 2018 at 2:18 pm

I bet it was ice to be able to run outside over the weekend! We got more snow today which will probably freeze tonight.

I am always glad that I have a treadmill but also glad that I did not have to use it. I avoid it when ever I can. I feel like now that I have run in these crazy temps that I can run in anything

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      January 17, 2018 at 2:19 pm

It’s always a good option to have, especially if there is ice. That’s one thing I don’t mess with!

Man, that’s a nice treadmill!! I wish I had a place to put one. Would be so much nicer than driving in snow and ice to get to the Y to use those old machines. I might be a little jealous! haha That’s so awesome that you finally got it! And then did 9 miles on it. Boom! The most I’ve ever done is 7 and that was tough mentally. UGH.

Have a great time in Disney!

      January 17, 2018 at 2:20 pm

Somehow I used to do up to 12 miles on the treadmill awhile back! Its definitely nice not to have to drive anywhere. When I had a gym membership I rarely used it because I would rather just work out in my basement.

That is a really nice treadmill! We thawed out as well, but it rained everyday…and now the bitter cold is back.
    Enjoy Disney!

I’m glad you are enjoying the new treadmill and the iFit sounds like a very cool feature. I hope you are enjoying your Disney vacation. I like running on Disney property. They have those New Balance running trails at various locations. Don’t forget to ride the Tower of Terror! Thanks for linking.

      January 17, 2018 at 2:23 pm

They did have a New Balance trail but unfortunately there was no time for running…we were up and out the door really early every day! I wish I could have run there because it seemed really nice. But then again, I was on my feet so much I don’t think I could have handled much running!

  14. Kimberly Hatting says

    January 15, 2018 at 4:35 pm

We only had a partial thaw…it got up to the 40’s on Tuesday and Wednesday, but then abruptly plummeted back down to sub-freezing. Fortunately, we didn’t haven much for ice…a huge surprise considering some of the snow had melted. Glad you like your new treadmill!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      January 17, 2018 at 2:24 pm

I bet the 40s felt nice after what you had dealt with! It snowed again this morning so Im thinking we may end up with some ice tonight.

I couldn’t survive Minnesota winter without one!

I love my treadmill, and it is so convenient to just walk to the basement for my run. It’s the perfect time too since the conditions can be nuts. Enjoy your treadmill, and the iFit.

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      January 17, 2018 at 2:25 pm

You are right about the convenience! Even when I had access to a treadmill at the gym I never used it because I didnt feel like driving there.

I am possibly in the market for a treadmill….living in the midwest means outdoor running often doesn’t happen so I have started searching! What model did you end up getting? I will be interested to hear what you think of it as you use it more!

    • Lisa @ Mile By Mile says

      January 17, 2018 at 2:30 pm

We got the Nordic Track 2950. So far it’s great! We really wanted something durable that would last a long time so hopefully it can handle 2 distance runners!

It was nice to have a break from the cold but it was kind of a tease!
