This felt like a long, strange week as we were adjusting to our new schedule. There were still lots of miles, just not as many stroller miles. The weather finally realized that it’s actually spring and I was able to wear shorts on all my runs. I also got lucky and had my rest day scheduled on a rainy day. Here’s how the week looked overall.
Weekly Run Down: Adjusting to Our New Schedule
Monday: 5.3 Stroller Miles + Core
Tuesday: Strength Training + 6.2 Miles (4 Treadmill, 2.2 Stroller)
Wednesday: 6.3 Miles with Hills/Strides + Core
Thursdays: Strength Training + 3.6 Treadmill Miles
Friday: Rest Day
Saturday: 10.2 Miles
Sunday: 3.7 Miles + Core
Strength Training
I lifted on Tuesday and Thursday this week, but technically I also lifted last Sunday but counted it for last week. Still, that was 3 sessions over 5 days. I have been increasing my weights and this phase has me doing alot of chest presses and deadlifts. It feels good to push myself but it’s also left me a little sore.
Stroller Runs
We did one of our longest stroller runs ever on Monday! 5.3 miles! I remember once when Grayson was 11 months old I took him out for a short run and he fell asleep after like 2.5 miles. So I ended up running 7 that day while he slept. That was the only time he has ever slept in the jogging stroller. I’m not sure what happened this week but I was feeling good and he cooperated so we just kept running. It probably helped that the weather was so nice.
Long Run Saturday
I was excited to see that it would be in the 50s on Saturday morning, and the forecast wasn’t showing any rain. It was super foggy when I started. After about 8 miles I stopped to take a picture. I realized I was drenched as if it had been raining! I ran 2 more miles and got home to see that there was 100% humidity. Well that explains it. This was still a good run, although I did feel a little sluggish. It’s going to take awhile to adjust to humidity again.
Adjusting to our new schedule
Grayson started daycare this week and goes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. So we probably won’t be doing stroller runs on those days anymore. It also means that my workouts will need to happen before he wakes up. It will basically be back to what it was like in the winter when I wasn’t really running with the stroller. It’s just too bad because now it’s finally nice enough to get out with him most days.
And that’s about it for this week! I’m just slowly increasing my mileage and enjoying the warmer weather (until it gets too hot!).

I hope Grayson is enjoying his daycare. I bet he just loves getting to play with other kids after so long. It will be nice for you to have some me time on your runs too. I also love deadlifts! The humidity did come back this week but I feel like I cannot complain until at least May 🙂
Oh I totally agree! I was just shocked at how humid it was this soon in the year. Its always such a surprise when that happens.
I hope we get some more spring weather before it gets hot. It looks like this week will be cooler. I hope you all do well with your new schedule.
Agreed! Overall I guess spring has been somewhat decent this year. Last year it didn’t get warm until like the end of May, so who know what will happen this year.
A lot of my families at work are putting their kids in daycare, at least part time. These poor little ones need socialization! It will be nice for you to have some time for yourself. Although I’m sure part of you will miss having him around!
Yes absolutely! This is the first time he is around other kids pretty much ever, so its quite an adjustment. But I think overall it will be good for everyone.
I had my first “summer” run yesterday and did not prepare for it. Last week when it was low 40’s I had one sip of water during my run…yesterday my bottle was empty by the end of mile 5. I finally got off the fence and ordered a hydration pack so that I won’t get caught short on the water again.
Thats great that you will have a way to carry water with you! I’ve still been experimenting with my hydration pack. It’s nice to not have to carry anything on a long run.
Happy to hear that daycare is working out and now you have more free time.
All of a sudden it got warm here. Not hot but no jacket, short sleeves and a SKIRT!! Yesterday was humid here as well as tomorrow. It’s hard to adjust. I’m hopping for a dry cool day for my half marathon next Sat.
It’s that time of year when we suddenly start getting warm days and are totally unprepared for them! Hopefully the weather cooperates for your race.
How is Grayson doing with daycare? Was it hard to leave him?
Lately I’ve been doing one harder lower body strength session a week, one harder upper body, and some easier (bodyweight) stuff sprinkled in between. It’s been working so far.
At this time of year here, all our runs are humid! “Steamy” might be more of the word… sigh.
It’s been a tough few days but I am optimistic that it will get better. I knew would be a rough transition for him since he’s not used to being away from us.
I always feel bad even complaining about the warmer weather when I know its always so much worse in places like Florida! That’s great that your strength training is working out!
That’s great that Grayson was so cooperative — hopefully with all the stimulation at daycare he’ll be a really good boy when he gets home. Or over tired & cranky (hope it’s the first).
It was very humid this morning. I was dressed better for the conditions, though, so that makes a big difference! And yes, I got to run in skirt this week. Feels so good!
Well he hasn’t been napping great there so he’s been pretty tired when he gets home! Wearing the right clothes for a warmer run is really key!
100% humidity, whew!
How do you get your running shots? Set up a phone along the path and do a timer or video/screengrab? I can never get it right, so if Dustin isn’t available to take a picture, it doesn’t happen, ha!
Usually I just find something to prop my phone against and then I either do a video and then screenshot it or I have a little remote that connects through bluetooth that I bring with me. That usually gets better quality pictures because I don’t have to make it a screenshot.
Our run, on Friday after work, was a lot more humid than I realized. I kept feeling “water” running down my face LOL and the temps weren’t that warm. I was able to do 2 of my 3 runs in shorts last week. I probably could have also worn shorts on Friday, but was feeling like a wimp when I left the house.
It’s strange when its so humid but not all that hot!
I had a couple of hot runs last week but I dare not complain. I’m reminded just how brutal humidity can be. All the best with the new schedule and I hope G loves his daycare!
I don’t want to complain either! I am liking the warmer weather but its definitely an adjustment after running through the cold weather for so long.
I hope Grayson enjoys daycare! I can imagine it will be a bit of an adjustment having the early early runs again, but I’m sure you’ll be used to it in no time. We have not much sign of spring here, let alone summer. and the humidity can just stay away forever thankyouverymuch!! I started a strength program a couple months ago at 2 x a week, then 3 x a week. I stopped with my coach but I will keep up the strength 3x a week with Les Mills.
That’s great that you are able to get in 3 strength workouts a week! I find that 2 works best for me, but I also try to get some core work in on a few other days.
100% humidity sounds unbearable – great job getting that run done!
I hope your son is enjoying daycare – the socialization is so important!
Thanks! Yes, it really is! He is still getting used to it but I’m sure it will be great for him.
I hope the transition to the new schedule is smooth. I’m going to be hard up when A goes back to school next year – he leaves the house at 6:45, so that’s going to shift my mornings around.
100% humidity is where it’s been at for me over here. Yuck.
That’s an early start to his day! Ugh on the humidity. And as the temps warm up that humidity just feels worse.
I am also pleased that it was warm this past week. This week won’t be cold but not as warm anymore. As long as it is freezing then I am happy about it. That is exciting about Grayson! I hope he likes daycare.
Agreed- I am fine with cooler temps as long as its not freezing anymore!
First time at daycare? All the feelings I’m sure! My kids loved daycare although they had some rough days too. So many new friends to play with though, so that part is great. I hope you are all getting into a rhythm with the new schedule!
Well he went 3 days last week, and got sick already! (not covid thank goodness.) I’m sure it will be great for him once he gets used to it.
That fog shot is awesome!
Good luck adjusting to the new routine. Hope you both settle in well.
Thanks so much!
