TOL #14: The Beach, Blogging, and Running

I’m taking a break from my posts about running gear and accessories to think out loud with Amanda! If you missed it, you can see the running gear posts from this week here and here. So what have I been thinking about lately? Well, nothing too different. I’m getting ready to go away again. I feel like I have been going away every other week since the spring- and I sort of have. All good things, though! Next week we’re ... Read the Post...

Distance Running Gear and Accessories (Part 2)

road id

As a follow up to yesterday’s post I’m back with more information about running gear and accessories. Today I’ll be focusing more on the accessories that may be recommended but not necessary. It’s up to you to decide what you feel like you need to have and what you can do without.  The one item I would recommend for sure is a Road ID or similar product. I wear my Road ID every single time I am out running. It ... Read the Post...

Distance Running Gear and Accessories (Part 1)

About a month ago my friend Katie started training for her first half-marathon. She will be running in the Baltimore half on October 18th! The BRF was my first half back in 2007 so it brings back memories of not really having any idea of what I was getting myself into! But I have no doubts that she will do awesome- she ran the Baltimore 10 miler two years ago with NO TRAINING at all. Like she just got up and ran 10 ... Read the Post...

The Importance of Recovery

Mile by Mile Running

Saturday’s long run was the longest I have run in awhile (although not by much) and it felt HARD. Maybe it was because of the humidity (it wasn’t particularly hot out) but I also just felt like my head wasn’t in the right place. When I was done I was glad it was over but proud that I had pushed through. It got me thinking about how I will have runs that are even more challenging than that during marathon training. I ... Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
