Training

Somehow, after 16 weeks of training, it is already race week! I'm drafting this before my race and will just try to pop in Saturday afternoon to add some last minute updates. Hopefully by the time this goes live the race will successfully by completed! Let's take a look at training week 16: race week!

Training Week 16: Race Week!

October 3, 2021view the post

As many of us are now back to in-person racing, we are all trying to remember all the logistics of how to prepare for a race. We talked about the taper period, but what are the last minute "to-dos" that you should focus on during the last week before your race? This is usually when many of us are feeling anxious as the race is getting closer and we aren't running as many miles. Here are some ideas to keep you feeling positive, focused, and productive.

What To Do The Week Before Your Race

This was technically my second week of the taper, but it was the first week that felt like alot less. I ran 5 days instead of 6, with just 1 workout. My long run was only 10 miles. And next week will be even less, until the weekend that is! It was another week of ups and down. I feel like evert week I am questioning if this race will happen. I won't know for sure until I'm there doing it. Let's take a look at this week's workouts, which was a week of ups and downs.

, but now my concern is that it will be warm on race day. I guess the good news is that I trained through the heat all summer, so I'll be prepared for it. But I was really counting on some cooler weather to make running feel a bit easier at this point in the season!

And just like that September arrived and finally brought some cooler weather with it! This was an interesting week that started hot and humid, then we had lots of rain, flooding, and tornado watches from Hurricane Ida, and ended nice and cool. I'm not convinced the heat is gone for good, but I'll take this break from it for now. Let's do a recap of this week as we are welcoming September and the nice weather it may bring.

Training Week 12: Welcoming September

It was another brutal week of weather, once again. I took a few of my runs indoors to keep them easier and give myself a break from the heat and humidity. This stretch of humid days has just been going on for too long. I don't think we have had a morning under 70 with less than 90% humidity all month. But eventually summer will end and it will cool off. For now, I'm running outside when I can but also embracing the treadmill.

Training Week 11: Embracing the Treadmill

Over the past 18 months many people have turned to running as a way to exercise without having to go to a gym. Often times what starts as an innocent way to stay in shape can turn into an obsession with the sport. One day you're running for 10 minutes around the block, the next you're getting ready to run your first marathon. (Hopefully the progression doesn't actually happen that quickly!) So if you're running has progressed to the point where you have signed up for your first marathon, congrats! Here's what you need to know.
