Well, I am finally back to blogging after quite a whirlwind of a week! Today’s post is going to be kind of a catch-all of what I’ve been up to. I’ll go day by day and share my workouts and some pictures of what was going on. When we last left off I was sick and talking about how I had barely eaten anything I meal planned and hadn’t run for 3 days.
SUNDAY
On Sunday I was feeling much better so I went out for a run before leaving for the airport. I ran about 6.5 miles although my Garmin was all over the place once again. I wasn’t too concerned with pace or distance so I just ran for about an hour.
I flew to Detroit where I was meeting Rob’s sister and her husband in the airport. Rob had flown to Cleveland on Friday and was driving to Detroit with his parents, also on Sunday. We all met up at his grandpa’s house on Sunday night.
MONDAY
We stayed in a hotel, so on Monday morning I headed to the workout room to run on the treadmill. Usually when I am in Michigan it is way too cold and icy to run outside. This time it was warmer and there was no snow or ice on the ground, so I could have run outside, but I only packed shorts and tank tops. They take up much less room, anyway. I ran 6 miles and then did 20 minutes of Barre3 legs and core.
We exchanged gifts on Monday afternoon and then did our annual beer tasting. We bought a bunch of different beers (mostly winter/Christmas themed) and a group of about 7 of us tasted them and rated them. This year I wasn’t too impressed with any of the beers we got. I took notes on my phone, but looking back they’re not very useful. Mostly it helped to rate them as we went along.
Always a good time!
TUESDAY
Once again I hit the gym for 6 miles. I find that I end up running more than planned on a treadmill because I can just keep going. When I run outside I stop when I get back home. I also did 30 minutes of total body Barre3.
We had a big dinner with Rob’s extended family and pretty much just hung out at his grandpa’s the rest of the day.
WEDNESDAY
Christmas eve started out with 6 miles again, plus 10 minutes of Barre3. We said our goodbyes to Rob’s family and headed to the airport around noon. By some miracle our flight got in to Baltimore about 15 minutes early and our luggage came out in record time. We made it to church at 6pm (which we didn’t think was going to happen) and then had a nice dinner at Sullivan’s steakhouse. After dinner we opened presents, while also unpacking and repacking for the next half of our trip.
THURSDAY
I couldn’t resist a Chrismtmas morning run with some of my new gear, plus it was 50 degrees out. I did 5.1 miles around the harbor and I’m pretty sure I was the only other runner out at 5:30 am on Christmas.
My parents picked us up at 8am and we were on our way to New York. We made a quick stop at our hotel and then headed to my aunt and uncle’s to celebrate Christmas.
We were exhausted by the end of the day and crashed back at the hotel by 8:30.
FRIDAY
I woke up refreshed on Friday morning and ran 5.1 miles around the hotel. Before my run I did a 10 minute Barre3 workout as a warm-up.
A little later we had lunch with one of my mom’s close friends who we didn’t get to see for Christmas.
And then I got to visit with two of my good friends and their beautiful baby girl!
That evening we grabbed dinner at one of our favorite Long Island restaurants (Mama Theresa’s) and then had some wine in the hotel before calling it a night.
SATURDAY
I wanted to get in a longer run on Saturday but I just wasn’t able to get in the groove, plus we had stuff to do so I didn’t have a ton of time. I ended up running 8.1 miles and did 10 minutes of Barre3 core work after.
Lunch was at our favorite pizzeria, Grimaldi’s.
We seriously dream about this pizza for months before visiting New York.
On Saturday night we got to see a bunch of my friends from high school, but I managed to not take a single picture! My friends Karen and Danny got engaged last weekend, so it was great to see them and celebrate!
It was so great to see everyone and spend a few hours catching up!
SUNDAY
It was a rest day, and we drove back to Baltimore. The afternoon was spent getting groceries, meal prepping, and doing laundry. Now it’s time to relax and maybe reunite with my foam roller for a bit! Or maybe I’ll just lay on the couch instead.
Total miles: 42.8
What a week! Even though I haven’t been commenting on blogs, I did read most posts this week but I’m hoping to get caught up with everything over the next few days!
What have I missed? How was your week?
Did you get any fun running gifts this year?
I’ll be linking up with Katie for Marvelous in my Monday and Erin for the Weekend Snapshots link-up!

Glad to have you back! Looks like a great time and so much going on. Love all of the pictures, and can’t believe you still managed to run that much with all the holiday festivities!
[email protected] says
Thanks! Running seemed to be the one part of each day that I could have for myself, so I took advantage of that!
Jessie says
What a fun and busy holiday weekend. Glad you made it to and from all your destinations safe & sound. I love the outside scenery from your first run back in Chicago. Running through lights just makes any run 10x better.
[email protected] says
Yes I loved seeing all the lights around the city! I’m a little sad that they are all gonna go away so soon.
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
I can’t believe you were here and I missed it lol. I used to love Mama Theresa’s (the one in Garden City, right?) — used to go there for lunch sometimes when I worked in the area. Next time you come we definitely have to figure out a way to meet up. Glad you had such a great week after being sick.
[email protected] says
I know! And it actually wasn’t until I got to NY that I remembered that I would be near you, and then I just figured you were still in Fl. Oh well, next time! The Grimaldi’s was in Garden City but I think Mama Ts was in Westbury (but there might be other locations). Being there made me realize how much I miss NY pizza and bagels!
Cheryl says
Sounds like a great week, and maybe now you need a vacation! Good job getting in workouts. I like the beer tasting idea!
[email protected] says
Yes, I am actually taking a few days off this week and I am so excited to do nothing! The beer tasting is a really fun way to spend a few hours over the holiday!
Karen @runningfifty.com says
Looks like a fun week with lots of great running!
[email protected] says
Yes it was! A good mix of relaxing and working out:)
Kristina says
The beer tasting idea is great! I’m not a beer fan, but maybe next year I will need to implement a new wine tasting tradition 🙂 Feel free to come over for that if you’d like!
Congrats to your friends on their engagement! Her dress is really cute!
Glad you had an awesome week!! Merry Christmas!
[email protected] says
Oh you know I would be there for the wine tasting:) We were actually saying that we would love to start a wine tasting tradition over Thanksgiving.
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
Glad that you are feeling better! ANd what a whirlwind of Christmases you have had. I think you earned that pizza, my dear. Next time, though, I want to go! I think that you could say I got some running gifts this year, haha…
[email protected] says
Running gifts are the best! It was quite a week- fun but exhausting! It was great to be able to see so many people but now I am excited to stay home for a bit!
Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says
Looks like you had a wonderful weekend and yes the weather in MI is uncharacteristically warm. I haven’t bundled up for a single run and sometimes am leaving my house without a coat on.
How are you liking the Barre3 workouts?
[email protected] says
I really like that I can do shorter workouts on the go- so it was perfect for this week! I don’t know if I would have done any core or strength work if I wasn’t able to pull up a quick video on my phone.
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Wow sounds like quite a holiday whirlwind! Looks like you had a lot of fun! I’ve had a pretty crummy week. I’m STILL sick. I have a few good days sprinkled in here and there and got luck that one of my good days happened to be Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Then it was back to urgent care. Glad your sickness was short lived!
[email protected] says
So sorry to hear you are still sick! I know how miserable I was for those 3 days so I couldn’t imagine how you are feeling!
Robyn @ Robyn's Living Life says
You run so much! I am finding that as I train for a marathon it seems easier to run more because my view if distance is warped, but for not training for anything- that is a lot of miles!
[email protected] says
I definitely bumped up my mileage this week, mostly because I ran 7 days after taking 3 days off last week, and not having access to cross training classes. This week it will probably be less but who knows! I’ve just been doing however much I feel like and it seems to be workout out!
Salt says
I love that pizza picture so much. I was starving after I saw it on Instagram!
Your week sounds crazy, but so much fun! I’m glad you’ve been having such a wonderful holiday! I couldn’t resist a Christmas Day run either. 🙂
[email protected] says
The pizza was so good! The 3 of us ate the entire thing and thought about getting more but knew that would be a bad idea:)
Amy says
Wow! You have been pretty busy! You did a great job getting your workouts in! I love testing out new running gear! It makes running extra fun!
[email protected] says
Me too! I still haven’t exchanged gifts with my parents and sister yet so Im hoping there are a few more running items to come!
Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
Wow that is a busy, busy Christmas week, but it looks like you did a great job sticking to your workouts. Also, that pizza looks amazing and I’m drooling just thinking about it!
[email protected] says
The pizza was so good- it made me pretty grateful that I stuck to my workouts all week because I ate a ton of it!:)
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Sounds like you had a fantastic wk. Way to go in still getting your runs in even while traveling. That pizza looks delicious!
[email protected] says
Thanks! The weather and access to a treadmill definitely made it easier to get the workouts in. And the pizza was delicious!
Nicole@thegirlwhoraneverywhere says
It looks like you have had an an amazing, jam packed, family/friend filled week! I have been super awful at blogging this week. And commenting. And reading….tis the season to be super busy though, right??
I WANT that pizza! I love visiting places where i’m absolutely obsessed with one of their dishes! It makes it so much more fun to dream about it!
I like your tradition of beer tasting-what a creative idea!
[email protected] says
It seemed like this was a good week to step away from blogging a bit! I get so overwhelmed when I fall really behind on reading posts so I kept reading even though I didn’t comment (which seems to be the most time consuming part).
We always look forward to going to Long Island just for that pizza! We always say that it would probably be really bad if we had it close to where we live because we would eat it all the time!
Carmy says
I spy a new pink headlamp!!! 😀
[email protected] says
Yep! I finally gave in and asked for one for Christmas.
Michael Anderson says
Yay! I totally loved all of the pics you shared on IG last week – you guys are really cute (sorry if you hate hearing that … but it is true and meant as a compliment!). Glad you had such a great and eventful time!
[email protected] says
Haha thanks! And I definitely take it as a compliment:)
Sara says
Cant believe yoU got 42 miles in with such a crazy travel week! Looks like you had a great week. That pizza looks fantastic!
[email protected] says
I was also surprised, but I think my numbers were higher than usual because I ran all 7 days. The pizza was SO good!
Kaitlin says
I adore running on Christmas day! Sounds like an awesome Christmas holiday 🙂
[email protected] says
It was great! Running is my favorite way to start most days:)
Jennifer says
Great couple of weeks with your traveling and the holidays! The pizza looks soooo good!
[email protected] says
Thanks! The pizza was amazing:)
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
It sounds like your Christmas week was hectic but great just like mine was! Don’t you just love when your travels go totally smooth? I had a similar scenario last week – our flight arrived a few minutes early, and then when we got to the baggage claim, ONLY our bags had come out so far. It was fabulous! I love how you do an annual beer tasting. I’d love to start doing that with a particular wine varietal with a group of people.
[email protected] says
We are thinking about making a wine tasting tradition over Thanksgiving! Traveling is stressful regardless so its always nice when things go smoothly. I’m glad that you had good travels as well!
Hailey says
Such a busy Christmas week for you! And you still managed to run all those days! I’m glad you’re feeling better too. I saw that picture of you guys and the pizza on your Instagram. It looks so good! Love good pizza!

It was quite the week- fun but so busy! And there is nothing like a good pizza:)
