Enjoying Solo Miles and Stroller Miles

The first full week of May is over, and as usual we had some days that felt like summer and others that felt like winter. Pretty typical for this time of year! There was some rain too, but at least the wind died down. My schedule allowed for some extra stroller runs which was a nice change. I spent the week enjoying solo miles and stroller miles!

Monday: 4.7 Stroller Miles + Core

It was a rainy start to the week. We were able to sneak out for a run between the showers. It was perfect timing because right as we were getting home it started raining again!

monday stroller run

Tuesday: Strength Training + 4.5 Stroller Miles

This was my first strength training session in over a week. After lots of squats and hamstring curls, my legs were a bit tired for my run. But the weather was good and we got out nice and early!

Wednesday: 5.5 Solo Miles

Since Grayson would be at daycare all day I got in my run before he woke up so I could make the most of uninterrupted work time. It was warm and humid at 5am! But at this point I would rather it be warm than cold. I wore some of my gear from last week’s Pittsburgh Marathon Relay and tried on my medal for the picture.

Thursday: Rest Day

It was my one day in the office this week so it worked out to be a good rest day.

Friday: Strength Training + 4.5 Stroller Miles

I did my strength workout early and then we went to the park for our stroller run. Of course that meant lots of stops at the playground!

run at park

We ran a total of 4.5 miles but with all the stops it took us about an hour and a half. It was a fun morning though!

Saturday: 9 Solo Miles

The forecast was calling for rain starting at 7 or 8am. I figured I would plan to try to finish my run by then, and wasn’t too worried about getting caught in the rain. It held off until after I was done and then started coming down pretty steadily. I ran lots of hills on some roads I haven’t run in awhile. It was a good, but challenging run!

saturday hilly long run

Surprisingly, my legs felt ok after this run. It was my upper body that was sore! But I think it was from strength training on Friday. Pretty sure chin-ups were the culprit!

Sunday: Planning for 3.6 Family Miles

I’m getting this post done early, but we will probably do our usual 3.6 or so family stroller miles to kick off Mother’s Day!

Brooks Gear

I also got some awesome new gear from Brooks last weekend that I started wearing this week. Lots of fun colors and light spring gear! Now if only it would stay warm enough so I could actually wear it all!

new brooks clothes

It was a good week with a nice mix of solo miles and stroller miles! Happy Mother’s Day to everyone celebrating!

Grayson on the swing set too cute! I love all the new Brooks gear but has not been warm enough to wear it yet this week! Hope you have a great mother’s day

It definitely wasn’t tank top weather this weekend! Although I did get to try a couple of the shirts earlier in the week.

Oh I well remember those days when stops at the park interrupted my runs. Fun! That Brooks assortment looks great! There was snow in the forecast last night so no, it’s not feeling too warm here as yet. It’s time now to warm up consistently! Happy Mother’s Day!

We had a quick hail storm on Saturday afternoon that left a layer of ice outside! It melted quickly because the sun came back out. It was a wild week of weather.

Happy Mother’s Day! Love all the Brooks swag. It’s hard when the weather swings so drastically, you have to monitor the weather apps so closely!

So true! This weekend it was all over the place. One minute it was sunny, and we would get ready to go outside and then by the time we got out there it was storming!

Oh yes- chin-ups will make you sore! The run/playground on Friday sounds so fun- I miss those days. Glad to see that everything is back to normal and Grayson is back at daycare!

You know we have the wild weather too! This morning it was pouring rain just south of us (and I mean JUST). Now it’s sunny but it is cool. I’m with you. This time of year, I want warm weather.
    Happy Mother’s Day!!!

By May I am always ready for the warm weather, and we usually have lots of rain and a few cooler days. But at any point now the weather is going to switch and its going to be hot and humid for good!

Happy Mother’s Day! That Brooks gear looks so fun — I love the stripped tank.
I felt like our weather was more March-like than May-like!

    I love your medal pic.

Luckily I missed most of our rainy days when I was in Florida.

Happy Mother’s Day. Hope you have a nice day.

That’s good that you missed all the rain! It looks like a better week coming up around here, although not all that warm yet (which is ok as long as its not cold anymore!)

Looks like you had a great mix of stroller and solo miles last week. I absolutely LOVE all of your new Brooks items! They always have the best designs and colors for their apparel.

I hope that you had an amazing Mother’s Day!

We had winter-like temps for most of the week, at least in the early hours. I’m so done with the cold, erratic weather. I’m ready for full-on summer…heat, humidity, the works! I’m impressed with all those stroller miles! Great resistance training 😉

At this point Ill take the heat and humidity too. I know its coming anyway, and I don’t want to deal with layers anymore!

Happy Mother’s Day! Glad you mostly missed the rain. I was surprised I only got drizzled on a little! Right now though it’s a cold rain (outside).

I’m with you; I just get tired of being cold after a while!

Sounds like a great mix of workouts this wee, Lisa!

This weekend ended up being so cool and rainy overall. It actually wasn’t terrible for running, but not ideal for being outside the rest of the day.

hope you had a lovely mother’s day!

Thank you! I thought I could put away my gloves and headbands for the season but I guess not. When the sun is out it isn’t too bad, but this weekend was just dreary and cloudy most of the time.

Ignorance is bliss, sometimes. (Until you’re dyi Ignorance is bliss, sometimes. (Until you’re dying 5 minutes into your run wondering when it will finally cool off again). But really, this time of year I feel like there’s no point in checking the weather. It’s either hot or really hot. #summerrunning
Another cloudy day at the beach. At least it isn’t raining and windy today. I felt the 95% humidity on this fartlek run (maybe last night’s wine and bad sleep too) so it was a tough one. But workouts are for building fitness, not proving fitness, right?! How do you move on past a hard workout?

Just a few random thoughts (and videos) from Satur Just a few random thoughts (and videos) from Saturday’s race…even though this wasn’t a goal race there are always lessons learned!

First off, my daughter woke up around 1 am the night before the race. She almost always sleeps through the night now, but out of the 2 races I did this spring she woke up before both of them. It’s like she knows I am going to leave somehow. At least this time she went back to sleep pretty quickly and so did I!

Parking was easy, but it was a long walk to and from my car! (In past years I had parked closer but there was a ton of traffic coming and going)

The start line was so crowded that I couldn’t line up in the appropriate pace area. Many runners had the same challenge so the first few miles were chaotic with some people around me walking and others trying to run faster and weaving. I was just trying not to crash into anyone.

I didn’t bring my own water and wish I did! I needed it due to the weather and the water stops really slowed me down.

My watch never lined up with the mile markers. For some miles it was far ahead and others it was far behind. But overall my watch read 10.09 so it wasn’t too far off overall.

Hard iced tea is a nice post race option. They also had hard lemonade and Heineken. (A few sips was good enough for me though)

Spring races < Fall races!

What’s the best post run beverage you’ve gotten after a race?

I’ve had pretty bad luck with race day condition I’ve had pretty bad luck with race day conditions lately and this was no exception. Mid 70s, 92% humidity, wet roads but not enough rain to cool us off. Started pouring right when I finished. Just tried to run this for fun after a month of on and off sickness and not being prepared for those conditions. I forget how much Baltimore races really bring the positive energy (and the potholes!)
