Month in Review: October 2018

It’s a little weird that tomorrow is already the last day of October, but what is really blowing my mind is that it will be November. I feel like I just blinked and it was from August to November. At least October finally brought some cooler weather, even if on some days it was a bit colder than I would have liked. This was also my 7th month of pregnancy and I’m so happy to still be running! Let’s take a look at what happened this month.

Now that October is coming to and end, it's time to look back on goals for the month. There was still quite a bit of running happening, but finally some cooler weather! Click post to read more about my workouts during month 7 of pregnancy.

Here are my other monthly check-ins from this year:
January 2018
February 2018
March 2018
April 2018
May 2018
June 2018
July 2018
August 2018
September 2018

Running

Running continues to go well, although each week it feels a little harder and I get a little slower. It feels good to get out for a run most days of the week. That may change as the weather gets colder and I get further along, but for now it’s felt good.

saturday run

Of course I was curious about my mileage for this month because I definitely thought it would be much less than September which was 140 miles. It’s looking like I’ll be right around 137. And that’s without doing any long runs! (I think the longest run I did this month was 8 miles).

Strength Training

Surprisingly, strength training feels harder right now than running. I’ve had to lower my weights for many of the exercises and I actually get kind of sore the next day, even though I’ve been doing these workouts for a while. I’m on week 6 of Phase 9, which means I can move onto a new phase next week. I told Drew and Tina that I want to try to do one more 6-week phase and hopefully I will get through most of it. (I’m due in about 8 weeks).

Monthly Goals

My goal lately has just been to get stuff done whenever I had a free minute! October brought so many busy weekends. We had our baby shower, went to a Navy football game, and had a full day of Childbirth class. Work has also been really busy so nothing can ever get done during the week.

baby shower

I feel like there is still so much to do and I go back and forth between feeling like there is still so much time before the baby comes while also questioning how I will ever get everything done in less than 8 weeks. We have a couple of busy weekends in November but also some free ones so hopefully that will give us some time to get things done.

Your pregnancy running has been so impressive! Maybe strength training feels hard because you’ve been focusing more on running? Anyways, keep up the good work. You are so strong!

That’s definitely possible! Although I’ve noticed that certain exercises are harder than even just a few weeks ago, and I’m running the same amount as then. I guess overall my body just can’t handle as much as before!

October was about 4 minutes long haha. This month went by so fast and I can’t believe tomorrow is Halloween! October was fairly busy and I know the rest of the year is only going to get busier with the holiday season starting.

Another great month for you but yes, where has this year gone?? So interesting that strength is more challenging for you now. October was quite a bit cooler than normal for us here, which was strange given how warm we’ve been all summer. I’m still holding out hope for a mild winter though!

There was such a drastic change in temps from the beginning of October to the end. I remember still complaining about the heat that first week or two! I guess we are making up for it now with cooler temps. But I agree with hoping for a mild winter.

Time is really flying- I can’t believe you’re so close to the due date! Those last few months it does feel like there is a lot to do, but the good news is that all the baby really needs for that first month is a place to sleep and milk. 🙂

That’s true! And I guess we have that covered for the most part.

After running my 50 miler in the beginning of the month I haven’t run too much throughout the month. Mainly because of recovering but also I’ve been doing more hiking during layovers than running. You are so dedicated with your strength training programs. When I am not taking or teaching Body Pump my strength training is non existent.

Body Pump is such a great workout! Whenever you talk about it it makes me miss it. But I do like that I can do my strength training at home now.

I don’t like it when month’s end falls mid week, I never have enough spoons to pull it together for this linkup.
Congrats on a solid month. Love your dress — can’t remember if I said that before

Thank you! And I agree about it being hard to recap the month when it ends in the middle of the week. But it felt too long to wait until next week.

Wow, 8 more weeks? The weeks are just flying by. Great job keeping up those workouts! I’m amazed at the miles you are getting still. You got more than me this month! Glad you are feeling well.

Thanks! Each week I wonder how much I’ll need to cut back but I’ve still managed to hang out to this routine for now. I think the cooler weather has helped alot recently!

8 weeks! Wow…time is flying! In more ways than one. I swear October felt really long but when I look back at this year, it seems like it was just April and I had so much time to get things done before the end of the year. Now 2019 is knocking on the door!

It definitely feels like we blinked and went from August to November. So crazy. October was definitely busy and flew by (and my running was all over the place). You still got a lot of miles in! Kudos!

Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

#run #runner #marathontraining #richmondmarathon
15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
