I know that many of us are getting really fed up with winter at this point. Last week I tried to avoid complaining about the weather, but this week I’m just gonna go with it. Kind of an extension of this post about why I don’t like the cold weather and my previous thinking out loud post with winter complaints. these are just some thoughts why I am REALLY over winter at this point! (Not in any sort of organized, structured manner, just this weeks thoughts, unfiltered).
I feel like I can’t really complain too much about snow because in general we haven’t had that much this year, especially compared to other areas. We will get an inch or two here or there, but it’s then followed by a deep freeze. So that little bit of snow sticks around for days or weeks.
Last weekend’s snow caused the biggest mess so far. The area where I park has mounds of snow everywhere. I feel like every time I try to climb into my car I am getting a cross-training workout.
Once I actually get into my car then I need to cross my fingers that it actually starts. It doesn’t sounds like my car enjoys being in single-digit temps. I can relate.
Then I sit there shivering while I wait for it to warm up. This means I need to leave super early if I am trying to go to a morning workout.
We have had so many 2 hour delays at my school this year that it feels like the norm lately. Even when there is no reason for another delay I still find myself checking my E-mail each morning, just in case.
I have pretty much given up on running outside during the week. It’s just been too icy in the morning and not worth the risk since I am focusing on recovering anyway. This isn’t a bad thing, but it certainly doesn’t help with staying motivated.
My Uggs have become my snow boots. I probably should have invested in real snow boots months ago. And maybe I shouldn’t have done snow warriors in them last weekend…
I keep thinking “Is February over yet?” as if that will suddenly bring the warm weather. I know that turning the calendar to March won’t change things, but it’s a step in the right direction….
I’m just hoping that we don’t get a mid-March snowstorm that interferes with the Rock N Roll USA half! I mean, it’s not like I’m well-trained or anything, but still. Races are fun.
What are you winter complaints?
If you are living somewhere warm, when can I come visit?

Ha ha ha ha…. that pic of you doing snow warriors is so cute, knowing you’re feetsies are in Uggs. Hope your freezing temps will shape up and ship out asap for you.
Thanks! Me too!
Find a some place warm and we’ll visit together. Blue skies and sunshine preferred.
Sounds perfect!
I hear ya. I just want warm weather and the ability to run outside again. Spring needs to get here fast!
Agreed! Hopefully it will be here soon!
I’m so with you, so over it. Ha! I don’ t have boots either and have been relying on my uggs as well 🙂 As for Rock N Roll I’m not sure I can handle running it if it is super freezing cold or snowy. Fingers crossed!
Waiting around at the start if its freezing cold will be awful. I also hope the ice is gone by then
I’m ready for warm weather too! Even though our winter has been really mild (so far anyway…you never know what March will bring), so I have no basis for complaining 🙂
I am always ready for spring, no matter how mild the winter is!
I love your snow warriors! I feel bad for being in a hot climate now haha. But seriously I love the snow because it is so different to what I’m used to 🙂 and in Australia I basically sweat all day long which isn’t very attractive haha
Oh don’t feel bad, just enjoy it! For me a little snow is fine…but now its just gotten to be too much:) I would rather be sweating all day!
Ditto! I’m done with the cold. Every time we get a little relief (as in temps above zero) the arctic air comes back. I crave the smell and feeling of spring!
I feel the same way! I will be so happy when its above freezing regularly!
We got 3 inches last night. SO OVER IT. And yeah, I just run my weekday miles on the TM. As long as the long runs get the full treatment, I’m not too worried, but I’m also in taper, so there is that.
Yea, we got about 1-2 inches this morning. Training during the winter is really tough.
I have been trying really hard to just roll with the weather but yeah, I am losing it! They said it’s the coldest in 38 years which means my lifetime! I am tired of the ice and deep freezing frigid temps which make my tushy (yes, my tushy) super cold when I wear leggings (which is why I have been wearing jeans more often!). I am tired of defrosting my car and constantly putting up the heat in the house. And I am tired of having to check the weather to see if I can run outside. Bleh. It’s almost over though. March can be awful too so I am looking beyond the next few weeks just assuming that maybe in like four more, we will be in the clear!
I think that alot of us have reached our breaking point! Ok, I guess I can handle 4 weeks….but please no more than that!!
I’m also nervous about my car starting when I see it’s 0 degrees! We actually did have to replace the battery earlier this winter because it died in the cold (it was old) but I still get nervous. Running outside or inside both don’t feel like attractive options for me in the morning, I totally hear you!
I’m just really hoping my car can hold it together! We only have one car (Rob doesn’t need one, he walks to work) and its 14 years old. I really don’t want to have to buy a new car while we are also in the process of buying a new house!
I agree, I’m just so over winter! I’ve been having the same car problems as well. Everything morning I have to cross my fingers and hope it turns on! Warm thoughts for us!
I can’t wait for the days when i can get into my car and the temperature isn’t below freezing! It will be nice to not have to wait for it to warm up:)
At least you -get- snow days! I don’t think we’ve ever had one up here in my neck of the woods… not even when it’s -40 outside. And at least we’re through the worst of it. Spring will be here before you know it! 😀
I really hope we are through the worst of it! I think here we have had the worst weather of the season over the past week. That’s terrible that you don’t get snow days! But maybe Canada knows how to actually handle the winter weather, unlike Maryland:)
I’m with you. I am so over his winter. We just got back from Florida and I want to go back already. I may have to make another quick trip March. We always seem to get one more snow storm then unfortunately. Yes I complain about the snow but I would never complain about the heat. I love running when it is hot. I know I’m probably one of the few.
I would much rather run when its warm out! I don’t even mind the cold so much, but the wind gets to me and obviously ice is no good either:)
OMG. I’m so over this winter! I work at a college and we are now on snow day #9! (in a row!) Ridiculous! Looking forward to warm weather and sunshine!
Those college kids are so lucky! But I hope for your sake things get back to normal soon:)
I have the same sentiment about the snow. We don’t get a lot but because of that, the city isn’t really equipped to keep the roads nice and clear when we get a few inches. It takes them a day or two to get things back to normal. I guess I shouldn’t really complain but it’s getting kind of old 🙂
I hear ya! It definitely could be worse, but at this point I have definitely had enough:)
It isn’t very warm here, but it is really sunny-wish we could send some out that way to melt all of the snow! Just remember that all those miles through the snow will make you stronger in the spring!
I would love some sunshine!:)
I am mad that this morning it was actually above 20 degrees and it was a lifting day! Tomorrow is a running day and of course it is going to be below 10.
Don’t you hate it when things work out that way? I hate how its snowed the past 2 Saturdays.
Someone should take my Masshole card because we haven’t even had a week of ice/snow, and I’m done with winter. Seriously, less than a week, but Dallas is one of those crazy places where no one can drive in any kind of weather. We got ice Sunday night and the news said there were 70 accidents across the city by Monday morning.
Wow that’s pretty crazy! Around here people can’t drive in bad weather either but it doesn’t help that nothing gets pretreated or cleared, so the roads are always a mess.
I’m 100% with you on complaining about the winter this year. I’m not one to linger on the bad, but for my own sanity I really need warmer weather soon. I’m tired of the ice and the windchills and the increasing number of potholes. And most of all, I’m sick of fixing all the stuff that can’t keep up with the cold (aka appliances that bring heat and water to your house). I’m crossing my fingers for a much warmer March. Hope there’s nice weather for your race!
I know, I feel like mentally I am really losing it! After reading your post I am just grateful that we haven’t had any issues like that…knock on wood!!
Oh but your snow warrior is so regal looking! We just got 6 more inches of snow and it hasn’t even stopped yet. 6″ more predicted this weekend. Feb is a short month but it’s wearing on forever!
I agree about February lasting forever! We can only hope that March will bring improvements…
I’m over winter too. I’m so tired of the snow and the cold. I will still run outside because I just can’t deal with the treadmill, but it’s much slower than I’m used to and it’s never pretty. My UGGs are pretty much destroyed from this winter, so they are officially my designated snow boots as well. Guess that means I get to buy a new pair next year, right 😉
I know we shouldn’t complain since Boston is under about 7 feet right now, but if I wanted to live where there’s a ton of snow, I’d still be living there!
Exactly!! I moved to Maryland years ago expecting it to be warmer/less snowy than NY. I don’t think thats the case, and we don’t handle the snow as well so it ends up being way worse than up north!
I could have written this. I feel bad complaining too because of what the northeast is dealing with, but at the same time it’s all relative and I think this is the worst winter we’ve ever had. I haven’t run outside in nearly two weeks and it’s going to be so cold on Saturday morning that I’m going to have to split my long run since I refuse to run 17 miles in negative wind chills.
OVER. IT.
As far as the school delays and stuff are concerned…I don’t know how working parents do it! Betty’s preschool is also a daycare so it has mostly been opening at the usual time (except for maybe once or twice), but if she were in actual school? I’d never get to work!
These delays and closings have seriously been crazy. And I didn’t look ahead at Saturdays weather but now I don’t even want to know! Ugh…and it will probably still be icy by then.
Hang in there, it’s almost spring! I feel bad for all you guys in winter conditions, and am so impressed you guys still get workouts done. I don’t think I’d leave my house.
Thanks!! I think we should all come and hang out with you for the next few weeks:)
My winter complaint is that I spend half my time in winter in Indiana and half my time in, uh, not winter in Los Angeles. My body is so confused! As soon as I get used to the cold, I go back to the heat, then I get used to that and come back to the cold. Ack!
Of course, I really, really, shouldn’t complain, because the obvious upside to that is that I spend half my time somewhere warm 🙂
It was really hard for me to come back to the cold after a weekend of spring like weather in Arkansas. It was such a tease! So I can see how that would be difficult. Hopefully you can appreciate the time you get to spend in the warmth!
I’m so over it also, but it just keeps snowing where I live! You should go to Seattle, it was 55 and sunny when I was there last weekend. That combines with the fresh ocean air was glorious.
I would love to go to Seattle! I could definitely use some sunshine and the ocean would be an added bonus:)
I am so down for having a glass of wine and complaining about the weather. I know it gets old but so does this weather!! I woke up to pretty snow here this morning and the ONLY reason I was ok with it (other than the fact it was pretty) was that the streets were fine and the city wasn’t shut down today. I feel so behind these past couple of weeks with the weather- between things being shut down, schools being close, and not being able to run outside- I think I MIGHT be going a little crazy. I know my kids had so much fun getting out the other day and going to a museum- they CRIED when we had to leave because we haven’t been able to do anything in so long. THEY are going crazy right along with me!
It has actually felt really good to complain about it! I mean its what we are thinking anyway, right? And if your kids are done with the snow, you know its bad!
I’m with you my friend, this Winter just NEEDS TO STOP! I am sitting in my office a just looked up and its snowing AGAIN–this is like a daily thing here, its getting really old. Okay, enough complaining from me! I hope you have a great day and just know there are so many of us commiserating with you!
I know that you guys have it so much worse so I feel bad complaining… but I think we have all put up with enough and deserve a nice spring now!
You know how I feel about winter!! Please keep your winter rants coming–I love them!
I feel like you and I were just commiserating over the end of January and yet, here we are-almost in March….(and temps are not going to get better for a while…booooo)
I can’t even see over my snow banks…they are GIGANTIC! So I feel your pain!!!
I can’t even imagine what you guys are dealing with! Hopefully spring will come very soon and melt all of it away quickly!
If I had a dollar for every time I have said “I’m so over this winter” I’d be able to move to a tropical island and start bitching about the hurricanes lol.
Ha! The grass is always greener, right?;)
Haha hey thinking can be complaining too! sometimes you just gotta get it out there 🙂 I’ve been ruining my Ugg boots this season too — and I just don’t care! They come in handy and are so, so cozy. Come on March, you’re almost here!
I feel like lately my thoughts are all complaints! It feels good to just say them, especially when so many people can relate. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we will be done will all the winter complaints and enjoying some nice spring weather!
Yeah, I might still run outside all the time, but I am totally with you! DONE! Stepping outside of work today the wind chill was -5, and we have three more sub-zero mornings in a row before we get a break.
We don’t get as much snow as the rest of our region because we’re in a valley, but we get the cold to the extreme – the *average* temperature this winter (since Dec 21) is 11F. That is a record by about 7 degrees! That means for days above 11, there were days below. And only a couple of afternoons above freezing – nothing above 40 all winter! Ugh!
It does get to the point where you really feel so done with it … and the wind is brutal, and one of my big things is never wishing away days, but at this point I just don’t know!
I know what you mean about not wanting to “wish away the days”! But if the weather would improve I wouldn’t mind that it’s still February/March. It sounds like your temps have been even more brutal than last year. I feel like last winter I was able to push through with having a race to train for, and it kept my mind on something, but this year? It’s rough. I’ve tried to get into a mindset where I could enjoy a break but the never-ending winter and lack of running is enough to drive me crazy!
I SO feel you on this. I’m here in Vermont and am of the mindset that winter has officially outstayed her welcome! Luckily, I am going to Savannah next week so there’s hope for some sunshine…after that, well, who knows! Hang in there!
Oh wow I hope you have great weather in Savannah! Enjoy your trip! Maybe when you get back it will be spring:)
You all have a free pass to complain all you want about that weather. I honestly don’t know how I would train if I were you guys. I’m fine with the treadmill, but every time I try to go fast on them I feel like I’m about to fly off the back haha so I have no idea what I would do for speed workouts!
Yea, speedwork hasn’t happened at all this winter! The one time I tried to do a fartlek workout it was too slippery and I gave up. At least I can go fast on the alter-g!
Feeling for my East Coast friends, but I would love to exchange places with you guys for a week or two! 🙂
I actually would love to be in winter for a while – wearing a big, chunky sweater and boots. I won’t say anything about the weather here, except you can come and visit – no treadmill running required and never ever a snow day!! Kinda sad for my kids, because they shiver and squeal when its 50 degrees! Not how I grew up and love telling them stories of trudging through the snow – Ohio origins – to school and making snow angels and huge forts!
Spring is just around the corner 🙂
There is something to be said for having a “winter” with some snow- but enough is enough:) I would probably miss some parts about winter if I lived somewhere that it was warm year-round.
My winter complaints are mainly the temperatures. Can I just get some low to mid 30 days (or mornings)? I just can’t run in the teens or singles – I’ll even take some high 20s.
Go away Old Man Winter! 🙁
I know, enough is enough! Next week is looking better- crossing my fingers!!
