I’m calling this “Quarantine Month 3” because the last time I left the house to go to work was March 10th. Since then, the only time I’ve gone anywhere besides running or walking was to Grayson’s 15 month pediatrician appointment on March 26th. Wow! That’s pretty crazy to think about, now that we are just days away from June. I’ve missed a few of these lately but it’s always good to hop on board with some runfessions!
I desperately need a haircut, but I don’t plan to get one
As I said above, I haven’t left the house so this hasn’t been a big deal. Usually now when I run I put it into a braid which keeps it tamed for the most part. TimeHop reminded me that my last haircut was a full year ago! I probably should have gotten one in the winter but I kept putting it off, and who knew all of this would happen? I tried straightening it once on Easter Sunday and it’s just so gross. Whenever I do get it cut I am pretty sure I am chopping it all off.
Work is wearing me down these days
It’s becoming harder and harder to have any work boundaries now that everyone is working from home. I am supposed to work part time, but it’s been really hard to stay away on my days off. Then I feel guilty when I’m not working on my days off because I don’t feel like I’m as fully productive on my work days anymore. It’s so hard to get anything done because I am constantly switching gears.
The good news is that sometimes work and personal interests collide! We are planning a virtual 1 mile walk/run for this weekend to promote mental health awareness. So that’s been fun to be involved in.
Treadmill Running
I had made it several weeks- maybe even over a month- without running on the treadmill. But last week there were some rainy mornings and chances of thunderstorms so I was back on there. I always find it so hard to adjust when I haven’t run on there in awhile. When I am running on there regularly I kind of get used to it and find it to be not so bad. It makes me wonder if I should just make it a point to do a treadmill run last least once every 2 weeks or so. (I probably won’t do this- at least not right now when its finally getting warmer and we have so much light in the mornings.)
Post-Run Smoothies
My post-workout meals have not been the most nutritious lately. Or timely. When I am done working out I pretty much immediately jump in the shower and then Grayson gets up. I feed him, get him dressed and then we go have breakfast, So it usually about an hour after I finish my workout that I actually eat. I’ve been trying to make smoothies again now that it’s warming up. I make extra so I have some in the fridge that I can take a few sips of right after my workout, and then finish the rest with my breakfast. I was already making Grayson smoothies every day, so it just makes sense to make extra for myself too.
Runner’s Feet
Back to the topic of personal care, I could really use a pedicure. I somehow got a black toenail a few months ago, and it’s now becoming flip flop season. I guess I need to paint my own toenails. Then again, its not like I see anyone, so maybe I’ll just let them be for awhile.
While it’s challenging in some ways to be a runner during the quarantine, at least it’s something that we can still do. It’s also helped many of us manage our stress, which is definitely needed right now.
Who else is desperate for a haircut? Will you get one once salons are open?
What’s your favorite quick post-run breakfast?
Do you find it’s easier to run on the treadmill when you do it regularly?

I drink smoothies every morning. It’s a great way for me to get my servings of fruits and veggies plus my anti-inflammatory goodness. I look forward to them, but I need some new recipes.
I think your hair looks great long like that! Mine is longer–it’s almost to my shoulders now and I like the length. That outgrowth, tho…We’ll see what happens when I go to the salon in a couple of weeks.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
It’s not so much that it looks bad (it certainly doesn’t look great) but it feels gross. I probably just make it worse by wearing it up all the time, but Grayson is in a hair pulling phase so I don’t really have any other options!
Catrina says
I’m with you on the haircut! My last one was in March 2019.
Our hair salons are open, but I don’t feel like going just yet. Most days I have it tied together anyway, so it doesn’t really matter.
Oh, and pedicures! I miss pretty toenails, too. I’m not very clever at doing it myself…
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Wow, you’ve gone longer than me without a cut! Now I don’t feel so bad:) I dont feel comfortable going either. Our salons just started opening at very limited capacity.

I can see myself getting a pedicure before I get my haircut, but I’m not sure when I’ll be ready for either. ~sigh~ The Peloton treadmill workouts have got me on my treadmill again — but only for intervals. I think ding it once in a while will keep that mental hurdle low.
I can’t imagine how folks with young kids are managing this at all — you definitely need to cut yourself some slack and take those days off!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I think a pedicure sounds safer than a haircut since you can easily keep a mask on and you’re not near the person’s face. But in general I’m just not really ready to go out in public yet! (Especially for things like that that are not necessities)

I runfess my last haircut was before Thanksgiving. It’s a mess. Salons are opening here next week but I haven’t yet made an appt. I suspect there’ll be a long wait. Oh well. I finally took my toenail polish off and toes and nails are bare. It wasn’t a big deal until it got hot and the flip flops came out. Yikes. Thanks for linking!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Haha that’s when I noticed I needed a pedicure too. I only really get them when its warm out so its been like 8 months now.

I can relate to what you’re saying about working from home. Actually, my team just had a session about this yesterday. We’re all feeling pretty burnt out and we know we need to set boundaries as far as logging on and off work, etc.
Our salons here can open next week and I tentatively have an appointment for the middle of the month. Luckily my stylist is following all the protocols – only one client in the shop at a time, wearing gloves and both of us will wear masks. Like you, I’ll probably cut a few inches off so that it’s more manageable!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That’s good that you can get in for a hair appointment! I dont really have a place I go to regularly. I guess when I feel safe going I will just pick somewhere that is following all the protocols.

I desperately need a haircut and more a pedicure. My feet are awful. Not sure when I will comfortable enough to go. I cannot believe it’s been a year since your last haircut! I was a strict every 7 weeks
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I am not sure how I let it go for so long! It was still looking ok back in December. It’ just not something thats on my radar I guess.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I actually think the treadmill is easier on my body, but still, I haven’t been on it once since all this begin (or even before, I think).
My problem is my hair is layered. No way I’m doing anything with that, but it definitely looks better when the layers are kept in check. Still, I’m ok with braids. In fact, I love having a braid in summer & typically grow y hair out when it’s warm anyway!
I usually have a protein bar post run. I did do a smoothie yesterday, and then I got hungry! Protein bars are quick & easy. Although that’s great that you’re making them for Grayson anyway!
I used to work from home, many years ago Now I just occasionally work from home teaching Yoga. Anyhoo, even years ago, you really did have to set boundaries & treat it as if you were actually going into an office. Otherwise you’re gonna burn out.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Yea, its so hard to set boundaries while also watching my son. He needs so much attention and I am the only one home with him. So of course I end up feeling guilty when I can’t get to my work, but I also feel guilty when I can’t give him my full attention. It’s definitely not ideal!
Do you have a favorite protein bar? I haven’t been able to find any lately on Amazon fresh where I get my groceries from!
fairytales and fitness says
I can totally relate to everything here! I think I work more hours at home than I did when I was in the building. This past week I’ve been trying to set more boundaries.
Do you know when Salons will open in your state? I am also desperate for a haircut and if ours don’t open soon I may just have a friend cut it for me…lol
Thanks for linking up with us!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Our salons just started opening but I think they can only have 1 customer a time (not sure though- I hear all different things). That would be great if you could have a friend do it!
Jenn says
Our salons are open, but I will dye my hair myself and deal with the length. I am lucky in that I never do my hair: just toss it up in a messy bun or top knot, so I don’t mind too much. It would be nice to get a fresh cut, but I can manage without it.
When you say Month 3, it sounds so… long. What a year 2020 has turned out to be.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
Its weird because 3 months does sound long (and in the same amount of time it will be September!) but I also feel like being out in the real world was a lifetime ago. Like will I even remember how to drive a car!?
Laura says
I’m with you on the haircut! My last one was in June 2019… I kept putting it off in the winter. I broke down today and followed a Youtube video to trim the ends since they were so damaged. I figured if I botched the cut, it won’t be noticeable wearing my hair up.
It’s HARD to work from home with a little one! I do it all the time, but then my husband was home for 2.5 weeks between jobs and I was spoiled by not having to constantly switch gears.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
That’s a good idea to trim your ends yourself! I may need to try that since it doesn’t seem like I will want to go to a salon any time soon.
Kimberly Hatting says
Does the treadmill get easier the more a person runs on it? Well, my answer (for me) would be a solid NO. I had the idea (a couple years ago, I think) to try to do at least one run on the ‘mill a week, just to stay in the “mode” and I just couldn’t do it. I know, I’m a wimp. But, I do have the excuse of my height and my obnoxiously long legs (and big feet)…I’m always paranoid of stubbing my toes. I”M also quite the klutz, so if I did stub my toes, it would not be pretty…
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I am not sure why sometimes I don’t mind being on the treadmill. Mine is pretty comfortable so that helps (I like it much more than any gym treadmill I’ve ever ran on). I also like that it saves a little time and I don’t have to think about where to run.
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
While I have gone to several doctor’s appointments and have started going to the grocery store rather than doing curbside pickup, I am not ready to go to a salon. I’m going to give it a few more weeks to let our numbers go down before going to get my hair or nails done.
Have a great weekend!
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
I am not sure when I would start doing those things. I have a feeling it will be awhile. Considering I haven’t gone anywhere or seen anyone, I think it will be a really slow process as I start venturing out into the world again!
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
I can relate to just a few of these;-) I have long hair and yes it’s low maintenance but I’m at the point where I just want to cut it all off. I haven’t been on the TM since my last workday in the office but with the heatwave that we got this week I know it’s only a matter of time. My only advice on the work front is to do what you can to stick to your part time schedule, just because it’s really easy to get in the trap of being paid to work part time but ending up working full time.
Lisa @ Mile By Mile says
You are right about the work schedule! I finally felt like I was in a good groove on only working on my work days (mostly) right before this whole work from home thing started. Then I got all thrown off and its a huge challenge!
