It’s finally Thursday which means its time to think out loud with Amanda!
1. This week has felt really long and then I realized that during the past 2 weeks I have only worked 3 days per week. It’s quite an adjustment to then be suddenly expected to jump right back into working 5 days in a row.
2. Waking up for work certainly isn’t the problem. Even on my days off my eyes are wide open by 5:30am..6:00 if I’m lucky. Yesterday morning my brain decided to turn on at the lovely hour of 4:10am. I was planning to get up at 5, so after laying in bed for 15 minutes I just got up and started the day. I was looking for a picture or something to include with this part of the post, and found this:
Source: Harvard Business Review (July-August 2010) pg. 31
Note: This diagram appears to miss out on some of
the negative aspects and dangers of being a morning person;
such as not getting enough sleep in some instances.
Not sure what I think about that!
3. Last night I went to Yoga and it was one of the best classes I have ever taken. It was just one of those classes that completely fit with what I needed on that particular day. It was a hot class but since it was 100 degrees outside the room wasn’t heated too much…but it was still warm enough to get a good stretch. The class was a little challenging but mostly focused on opening up the hips. We spent about 5 minutes on each side in pigeon and it was intense.
4. Yesterday morning Iwanted to branch out with my breakfast meals and tried chicken sausage. I had it with spinach, mushrooms, plantains, and eggs.
The verdict? I thought it was SO salty. I really couldn’t even eat it. Maybe the kind I bought was chock full of preservatives- I read the package quickly and everything seemed natural but I threw it away before I realized the saltiness. Oh well, at least I tried right? (By the way, I ate a little bit of avocado this week AND last week!)
5. I am embarrassed to say that I live within walking distance of Camden Yards and haven’t been to an Orioles game in over 2 years. But the streak will be broken on Saturday because we are going to the Yankees/Orioles game!
This weekend some of my friends from high school will be visiting (we grew up in New York) so they were excited to be able to see the Yankees play here! I was never a big baseball fan so after living here for about 13 years I’ve taken a liking to the Orioles, but going to the game in Baltimore with Yankees fans will be interesting!
How did I manage to write an entire post with no talk of running? I think that’s a first:)
Are you a morning or an evening person?
If you moved to a new city, do you still like the sports teams from where you grew up?
Any yoga poses you love to hate?
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
I am an early riser, NOT a morning person. There is a huuuuge difference, at least to me. I wake up early, but I like to take my time, not really talk to people, and ease into the day! Not sure how I feel about that diagram…. Have fun at the baseball game! It was nice going to Wrigley after so long not going to a ballpark. It is just a true experience.
My favorite yoga poses seem to be the ones that people love/hate. But I love them because doing them make me feel powerful and accomplished after!

I think that’s how my husband is…he needs time to wake up, drink coffee, relax when he gets up whereas I get up and just get started on the day!
I love the feeling on accomplishment after a challenging yoga pose! I get so excited when I can hold crow. But I find it the most challenging to relax into poses (like pigeon)

Hi Lisa, I am definitely a morning person. It’s still weird for me to see so much Orange in the stores, when I was always used to seeing Phillies Red. I guess I’ll become a Purple girl come football season, but I do enjoy watching sports no matter what colors/teams I’m watching. Downward Dog makes me a little dizzy sometimes. Love your blog. I have started to read it in order, and I am up to November, but occasionally I’ll read a current one too.
[email protected] says
Thanks for reading, Sue! There is definitely alot of orange and purple here. While I can appreciate the Orioles, I just can’t get behind the Ravens:)
Downward dog can actually be a pretty challenging pose!
Kate the great says
Was just thinking about the sports thing. I will live in Baltimore the rest of my life so I should probably convert to ravens/orioles. Not likely.
I went to yoga on Monday!
I am a morning person!
[email protected] says
I just can’t see you as a Ravens fan! I’ve learned to like the Orioles but I don’t think I will ever like the Ravens.
Yay for yoga:)
Its funny to think back on how late we were able to sleep in college, and now we are both morning people!

As you know I’m a fellow morning person 🙂 not sure I agree with that chart though! What kind of chicken sausage did you get? They have so many flavors available but I like aidells chicken apple sausage which is not salty, it’s a little sweet with apple flavor and natural. I’ve been meaning to try to make my own chicken apple sausage but haven’t gotten around to it yet 🙂 I think your food pictures look good!
[email protected] says
Yea, I don’t know about that chart either:)
I don’t remember what kind of sausage it was, there was only one option in the store so maybe next time I am there I will check. I thought it was “chicken apple sausage” but to me it didn’t taste sweet, only salty. I will keep a lookout for the kind you recommended!

I’m definitely a morning person! I hate to stay up past 9pm. Which also means I’m loads of fun (#not).
Pigeon is my least favorite pose! I guess that just tells you something about the state of my hips. YIKES.
[email protected] says
I can’t stay up past 9 either. I actually get pretty grumpy after 8:30:)
Yea, I could tell my hips were SO tight this week! When I heard we were focusing on hip openers I was a little scared, but I know its important to stretch them out!

I am a morning person AND a night person … I’m just not an afternoon person :). I actually think I’m naturally a morning person but my Type-A nature makes me a night person when I haven’t accomplished everything I wanted to for that day.
[email protected] says
Haha! That’s probably a good quality, but I could also imagine that you don’t get enough sleep! Maybe you should start taking afternoon naps:) My brain shuts off around 4-5 pm and all I can focus on after that is dinner and relaxing.

I am definitely a morning person! I’m always awake before 6am. I usually like it, but it does mean I’m usually in bed by 9:30. Have so much fun at the Orioles game! I’m a Red Sox fan myself, but I haven’t been to Fenway too often despite living in Boston. Maybe I’ll add a game to my summer bucket list.
[email protected] says
I am also in bed early!
It should be fun to finally go to a game…it makes me feel like its really summer!
Salt says
Yes!! Finally you are going to an O’s game! Bring us some good luck please. I wish I was going this weekend! I’m kind of an all-the-time person. As long as it’s not really, really early morning and then not so much. (But catch me after like 7am and I’m good to go!)
Yoga pose I love to hate? Bridge pose. I can’t even explain why. Just given the option to do bridge or wheel in class and I will take wheel every single time.
[email protected] says
7 am sounds like a good time to be ready to start the day! Its so embarrassing when I travel with other people and I need to be in bed by 9 and wake up naturally at 5:30.
That’s interesting that you prefer wheel to bridge! I like bridge better because its easier, but I usually try to do at least one wheel when we have the option of doing either.
Olena @ candies & crunches says
I WIIIIIIIIIIIIIISHHHHHH! I could wake up at least at 5.30. But recently I can’t seem to open my eyes before 6.30 am. Gotta go to bed sooner! If you don’t mind me asking, what time do you normally go to bed at? xoxo
[email protected] says
I am usually in bed by 9, which is probably why I wake up so early! I think I’m just stuck in a vicious cycle…I wake up early, so I’m tired and go to bed early, and then wake up early again.
I like having a routine but its quite a hassle when I travel or have something to do at night and I’m exhausted by 9pm!

There are days where I am TOTALLY a morning person but my BF’s work schedule makes it so I sleep in due to his weird work hours. I find that the evening person description fits me but not to a tee, there’s a bit of the morning person points thrown in there. I just wish I could stick to a sleep schedule but sometimes life just interferes!
[email protected] says
It can be really hard to get into a regular sleep routine, especially if your schedule changes alot!
ChickGettinFit says
I have found myself to be more of a morning person. As soon as i can roll myself out of bed i am good to go. Its the getting out of bed part that is always hard.
[email protected] says
I hear ya, sometimes the bed just feels SO comfortable!
Sam @ The Running Graduate says
I’m so jealous that you’re going to the Orioles! I used to go up to 2x a week in college and I miss it so much. As much as I love the Red Sox, I love going to Camden Yards – and Pickles!!
[email protected] says
It is a really fun stadium to go to games! I actually met my husband outside of pickles/sliders 9 years ago!
