How to Survive and Thrive During the Winter Running Season

Tips for how to survive and thrive as a runner during the cold winter running season. Keep up with your workouts and go into the spring racing season feeling strong! #running #runningtips #winterrunning

For those of us living in areas where we are experiencing winter weather, this can be a challenging time of year. Even though this winter has been "mild" it can still be tough to stay motivated when the days are short, there's less sunlight, and it's often cold, dreary, and windy. Let's talk about how to survive and thrive during the winter running season! I like to remind myself that winter running makes me appreciate ... Read the Post...

Frederick Half-Marathon Training Week 1

Mile by Mile Running

My first week of half-marathon training is complete! While I have been running half-marathons and long distances pretty consistently, I haven't actually TRAINED for a half-marathon in years. I think the last time I officially trained for one was in 2012. (I sort of trained for another in 2013 but didn't follow an official training plan). So I am excited to be back at it! Let's take a look at Frederick Half-Marathon ... Read the Post...

Base Building Week 4

My 4th and final week of base-building before half-marathon training begins is complete! Check out my post to see my workouts from this past week. #running #weeklyrundown #basebuilding

My 4th week of building a base to prepare for half-marathon training has come to a close. These 4 weeks went by so fast but I'm feeling like I am ready to jump into training. I think I did just enough to feel ready for training without overdoing it. For the most part, I feel like I have a good routine down. Let's take a look at base building week 4. Weekly Run Down Monday: Rest Day Tuesday: 3.75 Miles with 6 x 2 ... Read the Post...

Base Building Week 3

Week 3 of base building is complete! This week brought slightly higher mileage and a 4th day or running. Click to read more about my workouts this week! #running #training #halfmarathon #workouts

Week 3 of base building is complete which means there's only one more week until training begins! Training won't look much different than what I'm doing now. I will just start doing harder workouts that are more specific for the half-marathon distance while building my mileage and increasing my long run. This week I added in another short run on Friday, but ran 1 less mile for my long run. This way I wasn't ... Read the Post...

15 mile long run workout this morning! Honestly, e 15 mile long run workout this morning! Honestly, every step of this felt challenging, so I’m pretty happy that I still hit my paces. I’m going to blame it on the humidity. WHY is it still so warm and humid when it’s almost October 😩🥵 I made the mistake of leaving my hair in a ponytail so of course it was a tangled mess by the time I was done. When will I learn? Just glad I got this done to wrap up week 9 of @richmondmarathon training! Is it still humid where you are? #run #marathontraining #richmondmarathon #longrun
Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?
