How to Celebrate Global Running Day 2022

Every year on the first Wednesday of June runners around the world celebrate “Global Running Day”. There are many ways to celebrate, whether you are currently running or not able to run right now. While many of us don’t need a reason to run, Global Running Day can be an opportunity to try something new or to connect with other runners in a different way. Here are some ideas that you can try on Global Running Day 2022.

Every year on the first Wednesday of June runners around the world celebrate "Global Running Day". There are many ways to celebrate, whether you are currently running or not able to run right now. While many of us don't need a reason to run, Global Running Day can be an opportunity to try something new or to connect with other runners in a different way. Here are some ideas that you can try on Global Running Day 2022.

Global Running Day 2022

Participate in a virtual race

It may be hard to run a live race on a Wednesday, but there are plenty of virtual races to join!

Connect with other runners on social media

Check out the hashtag #GLOBALRUNNINGDAY to see how other runners are celebrating. Follow someone new and leave a comment to cheer them on!

Invest in yourself

You may be able to find some Global Running Day sales, so take this opportunity to make a purchase that will help your running. Maybe it’s new exercise bands so you can strengthen your hips, or a new pair of shoes. Don’t forget summer is coming and you may need some summer running gear!

Run with your family (or friends)

Today is a great day to get others to run, especially kids! Plan a family run/walk or another activity to get everyone moving.

Reflect on your running journey

During your run, think about how far you have come as a runner. Progress isn’t always linear, but it can be helpful to look back on how far you’ve come!

Plan your next race on Global Running Day

It’s the perfect time to start planning your fall racing season, and there may even be discounts on races today!

Go to your local running store

Treat yourself to something new or just check out any sales they might be having today! Also be sure to check the website for any group runs they may have.

Read a new running book

I just finished “Breakthrough Women’s Running” which I highly recommend. Check out some of my other favorite running books!

Set some running goals

Take some time to think about your long term running goals, and map out your plan to reach those goals. The book I mentioned above, “Breakthrough Women’s Running” has some great tips for setting goals.

Celebrate running on Global Running Day 2022

Whatever you choose to do today, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Just celebrate running by sharing your love of the sport with those around you and running if you can. If you can’t run right now, hopefully you can find another way to celebrate while you wait to lace up your shoes again.

The great thing is it can be celebrated anywhere!

These are some great ideas, Lisa!
We need to start a petition to move Global Running Day to a Sunday so that we all have the time for a run or even a race!
Or even better, keep it on Wednesday and declare it a global holiday!

I love those ideas! I bet even more people would run on GRD if we didn’t have to work!

I just finished my run, about an hour ago. WHEW!! Although I don’t run everyday, I think I do celebrate it daily <3

    Great ideas.

I always run on Global Running Day.

Rain is in the forecast so although I rarely run before work, I did today!

Ha, I agree with Catrina- it should be a Global holiday (with no work) so everyone has time to run a race or long run on the day. Luckily. I don’t work on Wednesdays so this year it worked out well for me!
That book sounds amazing. I looked at the amazon reviews and they’re all five stars. I want it!

Definitely check it out! It’s really great for goal setting and is very practical.

No need to be fancy when it comes to running! Glad you had a good morning for a run.

I ran farther than I should have but hey…it was Global Running Day. I’m always so grateful for running!

These are all spot on and perfect. I met up with a running friend and we planned some fun things for the rest of summer.

Listened to Life of a Showgirl on the treadmill and had some podcasts saved for my outside run but couldn’t get my headphones to connect. This was challenging by the end and I kept thinking how hard it would be if I needed to run another 7 miles today (and all miles at a faster pace) but this is why we train. The long runs are getting longer, and I’m slowly feeling like my fitness is building. I can’t believe that by the time October is over I’ll be getting ready to taper for the marathon! Let’s hope October brings lots of good miles and maybe some cooler weather. Was September a good month of running for you? #september #marathontraining #running
