Lately I have been spending a lot of time on the treadmill, and that probably won’t change for awhile. While I prefer running outside, there are definitely some perks to indoor running. One of them is that I listen to my favorite running podcasts! I “save” these for my treadmill runs so I have something to look forward to.
I like these podcasts for treadmill runs because they aren’t super long (most are under an hour) and if I am running for a long time I can listen to several episodes. When I am on the treadmill I seem to have a shorter attention span so it helps to change things up. If you are looking for a podcast to listen to for longer runs, check out the best running podcasts to listen to on a long run!
1. Nobody Asked Us With Des and Kara
This is a new podcast with Des Linden and Kara Goucher. They talk about all things running, and occasionally (I think just once so far) have a guest join them. It just feels like you are listening to a couple of running friends talk about races and their experience being professional runners.
2. Tread Lightly Podcast
This is also a new podcast by running bloggers and coaches Amanda Brooks and Laura Norris. I’ve known Amanda and Laura through blogging for 8 or 9 years now and I am a coach on Amanda’s coaching team Run to the Finish. They cover different running topics and always back them up with research studies. Usually these episodes are about 30 minutes so perfect for a short treadmill run!
3. The Drop
This one is hosted by Megan Murray and Thomas Neuberger from Believe in the Run. Megan and Thomas live in Baltimore and back when I lived in Baltimore City I remember seeing Megan run around the harbor and I would think “wow, that girl is fast!” not knowing who she was. Now she is a 2:47 marathoner! I’ve started listening to this one more recently and they’ve kept me laughing.
4. The Passionate Runner Podcast
Whitney Heins from The Mother Runners hosts this podcast and interviews expert guests on various running topics. It’s always very informative!
5. Running Explained Podcast
This is another informational podcast, with some solo episodes and some with guest interviews. Host Elisabeth Scott is a runner and coach who you have probably seen sharing researched-based running tips on Instagram.
6. Ali on the Run Show
I’m sure by now you have heard of Ali Feller– runner, mom of a 4 year old, blogger, race announcer, and podcaster. Her blog was one of the first I ever read around the time when I started my own. Recently Ali was diagnosed with breast cancer and just had surgery. She has talked about this a few times on her podcast and isn’t sure how much she will be able to keep up with new episodes over the next few months. I’ll be planning to continue supporting her by listening whenever I can. There is also a GoFundMe page set up to help pay for her medical expenses.
I always get nervous to try a new podcast, so I stick with what I know and like. Having these podcasts to cycle through means that there is usually a new episode to listen to when I have a treadmill run. They provide a great mix of information, humor, and overall entertainment!

Admittedly, I am not really a podcast listener. I did hear about Ali and saw her posts on IG. How sad for her to be going through this and she is so young!

I don’t listen to podcasts but I do love hearing about them! Thanks for these summaries!
I followed Ali when she was blogging but have lost touch since she stopped writing posts. So sad to hear about her having cancer!

I LOVE podcasts! I have so many favorites right now. I just discovered Choose Strong with Sally McRae. I also love Florida Trail Runner (probably only of interest if you live in Florida) and a couple others about ultras. I’ve listened to many of the ones you listed as well, but some of them I’ve never heard of. I’ll check them out!

It will take more than a podcast to keep me entertained on the dreadmill! If I’m listening to something, I prefer things like true crime or super bizarre stories.
