I can’t believe the weekend is over already, and the time change isn’t helping. I’m excited that springing ahead means that we will have more light in the evenings, but the mornings are going to be rough for the next few weeks. And I am not a fan of losing that hour of the weekend.
Last week brought a few really warm days in Baltimore- like highs in the 80s. Which meant morning runs were in 50-60 degrees! I ended up running 5 days in a row (Monday-Friday) just because it felt so good to be outside. It looks like we will have some typical March weather for a bit now, unfortunately.
On Thursday I ate lunch outside, and saw that there was still a pile of snow in a nearby parking lot. I guess it will all melt eventually!
Let’s take a look at last weeks workouts:
Monday: 5 miles and core work
Tuesday: 6.22 miles with 3 x 1 mile at 10k pace (was supposed to be 7:30s; ended up being 7:38, 7:35, 7:18- there’s a slight uphill on the route I run on the way out, so I always end up a little faster on the way back)
Wednesday: Strength training plus 3.15 miles easy
Thursday: 4.8 miles and core/hip exercises
Friday: 7.2 miles
Saturday: Rest- I went to my friend’s baby shower in Boston and left the house at 4:30am- even I’m not crazy enough to get up at 3am to run!
The early flight was worth it to get to spend the day celebrating Alli and JT! (Remember when they got engaged and married?) After the shower we hung out at Alli’s sister’s house drinking wine (well, some of us…) and catching up.
Sunday: 6 miles on the hotel treadmill…when we checked into the hotel the night before it was dark out so I wasn’t able to scope out anywhere to run. The hotel gym was empty and it wasn’t too bad getting this run done on the treadmill.
Total: 32.37 miles
Walked: 20.45 miles Push-ups: 3 days
Yearly Total: 434.6/2016
This was my highest weekly mileage in a while, especially considering my “long” run was just 7 miles. However, most weeks I run 5 days a week and this week I did 6. I’ve been enjoying my tempo runs each to help me prepare for a 10k in about a month. Although 10k pace feels much harder than it did 6 months ago!
How do you feel about the time change?
How many days a week do you usually run?
Who else has seen snow that hasn’t melted yet?
Thanks to Holly and Tricia for hosting the link-up!

Looks like you had a great weekend!
I’m anxiously awaiting the time change here in Sydney as I am SO tired of waking up in the dark! I’ll miss the extra sunlight in the evenings but it’s so hard to wake up when your brain thinks it’s still time to sleep!
[email protected] says
I agree! I definitely prefer when it’s lighter in the mornings!
meredith @ Cookie ChRUNicles says
I hate the time change for the darkness in the morning but I am trying really hard to deal with it lol. hopefully it’s only a couple of weeks before it’s light early enough for me to run outside again! I can get a few miles in still but if I need ot run more than like 4, I gotta go back to the treadmill. And it won’t be fun getting my son up for school today!
[email protected] says
I have no idea how long it will take for it to be light when I am out running but hopefully just a few weeks. I feel like I just need to push through a few more weeks of dark, cold(wish) runs before it actually feels like spring.
Susie @ SuzLyfe says
My thoughts on the time change: well, for once I’ll actually be waking up like normal people!
And then I was exhausted anyway, lol. Sucha fun weekend (and I’m glad that the hotel had a Keurig for your tea 😀 ).
[email protected] says
I still didnt feel like I was waking up like normal people because even though I slept until 6 (which felt like 5) its pretty early for a Sunday!
Kristina says
I used to run 6 days a week religiously, but over the last year I transitioned down to 5 days and that number feels right for now.
We both did treadmill runs this weekend! It sounds like yours was easier though. I just couldn’t get into it mentally, until almost the end!
Those cookies at the baby shower are adorable!
[email protected] says
My treadmill run actually went pretty well! I never know how it will go, and some days its awful and some days I don’t mind it too much.
[email protected] says
What a fun wkend! I don’t blame you taking a day off from running. I wouldn’t get up that early either. You had a good run on Friday. I’m happy that it’s going to stay lighter out later. So I can run after work now. Because as you know I am not a morning person anyway.
[email protected] says
Yea, I figured I would try to get in a bit of a longer run on Friday since I knew I wouldnt be running on Saturday!
Laura @ This Runner's Recipes says
I miss the light in the mornings! I know soon enough it will be bright outside by 5 am but I prefer that to dark mornings. I don’t blame you for not running with that early of a flight!
[email protected] says
I prefer that as well! It makes it so much easier to get up in the morning!
Pam says
I also would skip that 3am run in lieu of some extra sleep. What a fun way to spend the weekend celebrating with your friend and her family. I love Daylight Savings Time in the spring, but not as much in the fall because it means the start to darker days and nights.
[email protected] says
It was really fun! And I definitely made the right choice sleeping as late as I could- I was still pretty exhausted!

Ugh, the time change is a doozy. But it was nice Sunday morning when I was at the grocery store–no one else was there, which made for a great shopping experience! I typically run 4 days a week but upped it to 5 with my training schedule. It’s definitely been more challenging, but I’d still like to run 5 days/week after my training is over!
[email protected] says
Thats nice to have the grocery store to yourself! 5 days a week of running usually works well for me- I can fit in a full rest day and a strength training day.
Jennifer @ Dashing in Style says
The baby shower cookies are so cute! I’m irritated I lost an hour of sleep too. But even though I’m a morning runner, I’d much prefer it stay lighter later!
[email protected] says
I think we can all agree the lost hour is rough!!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
You are a good friend to travel all the way to Boston for a baby shower! 🙂
We still have random snow piles even though it is getting quite warm now.
You know me, love my running 5 days per week toO!
[email protected] says
I really can’t believe there is stills now after all the warm days we had last week!
Sarah @ BucketListTummy says
Congrats on your higher mileage week! I actually like Daylight Savings because I’m more of a post-work, evening runner so the extra light helps me out. The first week after setting the clocks back has me in zombie state though. Looks like the baby shower was so much fun!
[email protected] says
It always takes me a few days to adjust to the time change, especially when we lose an hour!
Alyssa @ renaissancerunnergirl says
Daylight savings totally got me as well – that lost weekend hour and waking up without the sun this morning. The shower cookies are adorable!
[email protected] says
I think this is the toughest weekend of the year!
Lesley says
I am struggling with the time change. I’ve already had 2 cups of tea this morning, and that doesn’t include the tea I brought from home. I’m trying to make that one last. This is when we should have naptime at work.
[email protected] says
Nap time at work would have been amazing today!!
Suzy says
We haven’t had a snowfall since the day Callum was born over two years ago! Everyone thinks Canada is a winter wonderland but not so. We used to get tonnes of snow when I was a kid, but global warming, I guess. Kinda scary. Great job on your week last week. Tempo runs are OUCH.
[email protected] says
I know you never talk about snow but I figured it snowed at least once in awhile! Thats crazy that its been over 2 years!
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass says
My thoughts on the time change are best summed up by : NOPE.
Love that it was light so late last night. HATE that my body has no idea what’s going on & it was pitch black when I woke up to workout this morning. It usually takes my body a week or two to catch up & realize it’s permanent.
[email protected] says
It takes me awhile too! Its definitely a tough transition!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma says
I hate the time change making it dark again in the morning 🙁 When I’m marathon training and have a run longer than 13 miles I usually run 5 days, but otherwise 6 is good especially if there’s a short run in there like 3-4 miles. Great week especially working around the traveling!
[email protected] says
A short, easy run definitely makes 6 days of running more manageable!
Sarah @pickyrunner says
Wait… did we fly to Boston the same day? Haha I was on the 6:30 flight to Boston Saturday morning… I’m all about the warm weather but it was a rude awakening landing back in Baltimore this morning to a cool drizzle. Hopefully we’re only a few weeks away from spring!
[email protected] says
That’s so funny! My flight was Saturday at 6:30 too. I thought I was the only person crazy enough to fly that early! After the nice weather last week this rain and cooler weather is kind of a let down.
Meagan says
As an evening runner I love Daylight Savings and I am forcing myself not to utter a single complaint about the dark mornings or the weekend hour lost. You can’t have it all 🙂
[email protected] says
That’s true! And in a few weeks it will be light again in the mornings but then I will be complaining about the heat:)
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can says
those baby shower cookies are so cute! i cant believe there is still snow on the ground in the middle of march! hope your cool spring weather sticks around, its supposed to get up to 90 today in houston, yuck!
[email protected] says
Wow, I don’t think Im quite ready for 90 degree weather yet! But I do hope it warms up again soon- this week is cooler and rainy!
HoHo Runs says
I’m a morning runner so it’s dark again now. I don’t mind though because I run in my neighborhood. It just takes time to adjust to the clock change. You logged a lot of miles this week. Right now I’m running 4 times a week. I’d like to do 5, but I’m trying to be prudent after injury. Is that a Cat In The Hat themed shower? Very unique. Thanks for linking with us Lisa.
[email protected] says
I think it was a Dr Seuss themed shower!
Lauren @ i had a big lunch says
Haha yeah 3am miiiight have been a bit excessive to get a run in. You still squeezed one in on a hotel treadmill which is a huge accomplishment in and of itself! Those can be janky haha. I’m loving the time change! Makes the days last longer 🙂
[email protected] says
I never like running on the treadmill but I knew I had plenty of time in the morning before my flight back, so figured I might as well get it done!
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
So far I’m liking DST. I thought it would be dark dark when I had to get up to run but I can see a bit. I love the extra time in the afternoons but I have not been getting to bed early! Oh well! Thanks Lisa for linking up. Oh that was a great post on why strength training is so important!
[email protected] says
I still feel a bit thrown off by the time change- its weird that its still light out so late in the evening!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
The weather was so nice this past week! It made the cold and rain extra nasty yesterday. Nice work on your 6 days of running!
[email protected] says
It’s always hard to go from really nice weather back to gross weather! Hoping the rain stays away for a bit now!
