Winter in Hawaii, Whole Foods, and Running Updates (TOL#33)

Houston Marathon

Today is January 15th. That means we are just about halfway through January! That's a good thing, right? I don't really want to think about how long February and March will feel, but it seems like once we make it through January we are over the hump of winter. Kind of like the feeling of making it through Wednesdays. Speaking of which, we made it to Thursday, so please join me while I "Think Out Loud" with Amanda and ... Read the Post...

A Whole30 Weekend (#WIAW)

saturday

Last weekend was my first weekend doing the Whole30. I knew that weekends would be one of the more challenging times to follow the plan but it really helped that I wasn't going out so I had full control over my meals. I also didn't have as much temptation to drink:)  Over the weekend I felt like I make some steps towards really getting the hang of this Whole30 thing. I was putting together meals more easily and ... Read the Post...

2015 Tentative Race Schedule + Inspiration Board

2015 race plans

After yesterday's post it felt kind of awkward to jump into a post about what races I am planning to do this year. I tend to get in an "all or nothing mindset" so when I'm not running I feel like I will never run or race again and then a week later when I am back to running I want to run all the miles and all the races. I think I need to figure out a way to find a happy medium.  So, during my little running break ... Read the Post...

A Weekend Without Running (Or Wine)

No running or wine? Who's blog is this? If you have been reading my blog for any amount of time you probably have noticed that I am so set in my ways. Changing things up (read: skipping runs) is not easy for me. So this post will kind of be a running recap from last week/weekend recap/how I made it through a weekend with no running and no wine.  Let's start by recapping last week's workouts: Sunday: Rest ... Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 Yesterday’s’ long run was 16 miles with 6 x 1 mile MP/1 mile easy. I took a few hours of PTO in the morning to do this on the trail because I knew wouldn’t be able to do it this weekend. This was my first time on the trail since my marathon last November. It was nice to be back there and the perfect place to do this kind of long run. It was the kind of run where you start thinking “ok cool I just did a tough MP workout” but then you remember you actually need to run 26 miles in a row at that pace. Luckily there’s still 9 more weeks of training…although that doesn’t really sound like that much!
41 miles for the week and got in 2 strength sessions. Taking it easy this weekend other than chasing the kids around for all their activities! #run #marathontraining #longrun
It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It It’s kind of freeing to not care about pace. It is a little frustrating to have to plan more time for an easy run. But it’s definitely worth it to recover quicker and feel better on workout days! #run #marathongtraining #easyrun
You know marathon training is starting to get real You know marathon training is starting to get real when you start losing track of what training week it is. I had to check my calendar but this was week 6, so 10 weeks to go!

I ran the Charles Street 12 last weekend so this week was all about easy miles and recovering from the race. That went well until I went and ran all the hills yesterday followed by walking around a maze and fun park for 5 hours. I got in some strength and mobility this morning and now I’m back to focusing on recovery!

If you’re training for a race how many weeks do you have left?

15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 9 15 miles, over 1,100 feet of elevation gain, and 91% humidity 🫠 Pretty sure that was harder than my race last weekend, but got it done. Now off to my second workout of the day- taking the kids to an outdoor fun park. RIP to my legs.
What are you up to this weekend?
